Centrespot the Official News Bulletin of the Essex Senior Football League Season 2016/17 Issue #28 – Sunday 19Th February 2017
CentreSpot The official news bulletin of the Essex Senior Football League Season 2016/17 Issue #28 – Sunday 19th February 2017 Barking get better of Sporting Bengal Barking score one of their five goals against Sporting Bengal (pic Terry Gilbert) Sporting Bengal 3 Barking 5 Barking moved eight points clear of Clapton at the top of the Essex Senior League table with success over an improving Sporting Bengal side at Mile End Stadium. Blues had won 1-0 when the two sides met in the league cup in December and earned a 3-0 win over Imrul Gazi’s men in a Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy tie last month, but joint boss Glen Golby expected a tough test in east London. And the leaders certainly got that as Sporting made them work for the points in an eight-goal thriller. Codey Cameron netted his sixth goal in five games for the hosts, with an angled drive across Rob Hatton, and new recruit Steve Carvell made it two goals in two games, while young Oscar Almeida Mendes was also on target once again. But the prolific James Peagram scored twice in reply for Barking, taking his tally for the season to 41 and his career haul to 68, which leaves him on the brink of the club’s all-time top 10 scoring list. Petrit Elbi netted his 17th hoal of the campaign, while Joe Pearman claimed his 14th and Paul Oshin was also on target as free-scoring Barking brought up their 100th goal in 31 league fixtures this season. But Barking now face a 10-day break before they return to Mayesbrook Park on Tuesday February 28 to host fourth-placed FC Romania, who ran out 3-0 winners over London Bari at the Old Spotted Dog. -

Physio Team: John Rutherford and Lorraine Smith. Chairman: Alan Penman Vice Chairman: Steve Harris Director of Football: Sean Downey Secretary: Roy Parker Treasurer: Steve Harris Match Photos: Andrew Parker Media: Kieran Carvell Hall Hire: Pauline Parker Groundsman: Bruce Warner A word from the Press Box Good evening everyone and welcome to Bell Close for this evenings Spartan South Midlands Premier Division clash, between ourselves and Potton United. A warm welcome to our visitors, who we face for the 3rd but not final time of the season! Well, sadly our FA Vase run has now come to an end. We exited the competition at the same stage we did in 2018, the Quarter Finals. A 4-3 defeat away at the hands of Corinthian FC. We were backed by such fantastic support, with the crowd pretty much all Leighton! We really appreciate and it has shown just how much everyone has come together in recent weeks. We want that to stay, as we still have 15 league games and 2 Cup Semi-Finals to play! We need your help as we make a big push, with the end of the campaign not far away. In other news, tonight is the third fixture between ourselves and Potton of the season. It's a win for Potton and a win for us so far, both of which came in cups. -

3.00PM KICKOFF TERENCE MCMILLAN STADIUM 281 PRINCE REGENT LANE, PLAISTOW E13 8SD TICKETS: £7.50 ADULTS | £4.00 CONCESSIONS UNDER 18s FREE MATCH DAY PROGRAMME This season marks the 150th anniversary of the FA Cup and Clapton Football Club’s 126th appearance, having first taken part 6 years after Wanders FC won the first ever title way back in 1872. The Tons kick off the 2021-22 challenge with a 1-0 win against ESL club challengers, Hoddesdon Town FC, in the Extra Preliminary Round. Today we play AFC Dunstable CO WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL CLAPTON FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL HOME OF THE “TONS” Good afternoon and welcome to The Terence McMillan Stadium for our FA Cup Preliminary Qualifying Round match against AFC Dunstable. We extend a warm welcome to their players, officials and supporters and we hope you enjoy their time with us. AFC Dunstable plays in the Southern League Central Division, which is a step above us - so we need to be on our game today. I quickly realised that we were playing a bigger club when they contacted us and said they were bringing 10 committee members and will there be room to park their coach. That's the great thing about the FA Cup - smaller clubs getting home draws against bigger ones. I'm writing these notes after a late night in Harwich, where we beat Little Oakley 5-3, giving us 3 valuable league points, oh, what mood swings I'm having already this season! After our home defeat on Saturday against St Margaretsbury, we were all so low. -
