August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.

  • BUDDY HOLLY (Charles Hardin Holley) 7Th September 1936 - 3Rd February 1959 LYRICS Coordinated by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik
BUDDY HOLLY (Charles Hardin Holley) 7th September 1936 - 3rd February 1959 LYRICS Coordinated by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. Buddy Holly was born Charles Hardin Holley on 7th September 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. At a young age he learned to play guitar, fiddle and piano. He released only three albums during his short lifetime, before his untimely death in an airplane crash that fateful “day the music died”, 3rd February 1959. However, he had been a prolific writer and a couple of albums consisting of unreleased material and demo recordings were issued posthumously. Buddy Holly was one of the inaugural inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, together with The Everly Brothers. The songs are as performed in principal recordings (or demos) by Buddy Holly alone and/or with The Crickets plus those released by other artistes where Buddy was involved. Additionally included, for diehard collectors of all things Holly, are songs where lyrics refer to Buddy Holly or his songs. The bracketed date following the title denotes the year of the initial recording. Where it was difficult to detect precisely what is being sung, queries/gaps or alternative suggestions are included in blue and/or indicated by ??. Details of backing musicians are shown both for the pre and posthumous releases. Reference to The Picks 1980s/90s additional overdubs is omitted. Some very obscure titles have been discovered; information is wanted - dates and any recordings. NB: the notes are from various, sometimes contradictory, sources. In many instances Norman Petty (25th May 1927 - 15th August 1984) is included as a co-composing credit.

Have no hesitation in calling over the holiday period. If you get the recorded message please leave a message. There are a lot of fine new albums and I dare say the album of the year may come from one of these. Any questions? Please do not hesitate to ask. We look forward to hearing from you. Wesley Dennis “Country Enough” $28 Some artists don’t make it easy for themselves do they? Wesley lives somewhere like Indiana and yet sells his cds ...or rather doesn’t sell his cds...out of Canada. A great artist with a fine voice and more than a passing nod to the wonderful Mel Street. This is as good if not better than his two previous albums, “Wesley Dennis” and “Country to the Core”. The first was on Mercury and the second was an independent with the same brilliant marketing stategy he employs on his latest. But who is he to be told. Wesley has written 7 of the album’s 14 tracks and all are fine.

Sammy Davis, Jr. is pictured above in two scenes from the Broadway smash “Golden Boy." The original cast album on Capitol is currently one of the hottest Broadway-casters on sale. “Golden Boy" also represents Capitol’s second major success in the original cast LP field during 1964, the previous winner being the long-running Barbra Streisand smash “Funny Girl.” The “Funny Girl" album was awarded an RIAA Gold Record some months back. Capitol’s plans for 1965 call for continuing activity in the Broadway field with at least two more original cast albums slated for release by the label during the new year. The success of “Golden Boy” is another personal triumph for Sammy Davis, con- sidered one of the greatest entertainers of this or any generation.
