This hegemonic femininity prescribes standards that are considered ideals in describing the archetypical feminine woman. Black women have been stereotyped as unfeminine and unattractive, and this negative and pervasive social rhetoric continue to have a long lasting adverse impact on this population. Black feminist scholars have long articulated the importance of defining Black womanhood not in relation to hegemonic femininity, but by incorporating the actual experiences of Black women. Using an interpretative phenomenological methodology and based on interviews with Black women in the United States, the current study investigated Black women’s notion of womanhood. This study uncovered ways participants self-defined, resisted negative and oppressive societal messages, and celebrated their own Black Womanhood.

  • SKIVLISTA 3-2018 Hello Music Lovers, the Following Items Will Be Sold on Open Auction Which Means You Can Ask About Leading Bids by Phone Or Mail
AUCTION – AUKTION SKIVLISTA 3-2018 Hello music lovers, The following items will be sold on open auction which means you can ask about leading bids by phone or mail. Please send your starting bids by mail, phone or post before the last day of auction. Minimum bid (M.B.) is SEK 50 / US$ 8 / € 6,- / £ 5 unless otherwise noted . Rutan har fått en fettknöl på huvudet bortopererad i dag men är nu hemma igen, pigg och glad.

  • FRED NEIL LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik
FRED NEIL LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. Fred Neil (16 th March 1936 –7th July 2001) was one of the most compelling folk singer-songwriters in the 1960s and early 1970s. His marvellously deep, rich and impossibly low baritone enchanted everyone who has ever heard a Fred Neil song - and continues to do so. Surely one of the most beautiful voices in music. Bob Dylan said, “Fred had a strong, powerful voice, almost a bass voice, and a powerful sense of rhythm. He used to play mostly the type of songs that Josh White might sing. I used to sing and play harmonica for him, and then once in a while get to sing a song.” Yet as performer success eluded Fred, mainly because it was the last thing he pursued. A reluctance to tour didn’t help much either (a trait he shared with Bobby Charles and Harry Nilsson). According to his producer, Nik Venet, Fred was “probably the most famous and financially successful ‘cult artist’ in the history of the world...and could have been even bigger if he’d wanted to be....but he just didn’t!” Fred Neil showed up unexpectedly and was gone before you knew it. A loner and somewhat of a recluse, he was exceedingly hard to get to know and thus remained an enigma to most. John Sebastian, who played on his two Elektra albums, describes his background as “sketchy”. He is best known to the world through other people’s recordings of his material, such as ‘Everybody’s Talkin’’, made famous by Harry Nilsson as the theme to the movie Midnight Cowboy (and earned a Grammy) and ‘Other Side of This Life’, recorded by several but most notably by Jefferson Airplane.

By:AADuncan S.C.R.ANo.A12 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1 WHEREAS, Texas is well known for its pioneering musical 2 talent, and The Crickets are among those Texas legends who grew to 3 symbolize this brilliant creative spirit; and 4 WHEREAS, Originally formed in Lubbock by Buddy Holly, J.AI. 5 Allison, and Joe B. Mauldin, the group went on to include Sonny 6 Curtis, Niki Sullivan, Tommy Allsup, and Earl Sinks; and 7 WHEREAS, The Crickets were one of the first rock and roll 8 bands to be self-contained, writing, playing, producing, and 9 recording their own material; and 10 WHEREAS, Beginning in 1957, hits such as "That 'll Be the 11 Day," "Peggy Sue," "Oh Boy," "Not Fade Away," "Maybe Baby," "It 's So 12 Easy," "I Fought the Law," and "More Than I Can Say" established The 13 Crickets as a leading rock and roll band that would become known the 14 world over; and 15 WHEREAS, By solidifying the rock and roll instrumental format 16 of bass, guitars, drums, and vocals, and writing their own 17 material, The Crickets provided a blueprint and inspiration for the 18 Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and virtually every major rock band 19 that came after them; and 20 WHEREAS, Nearly 50 years later, The Crickets continue to 21 record and perform, and their songs are considered rock and roll 22 standards as evidenced by their release last year of "The Crickets 23 and Their Buddies," an all-star collection of The Crickets playing 24 their songs with such talented musicians and friends as Rodney 79R9007 MW-D 1 S.C.R.ANo.A12 1 Crowell, Waylon Jennings, John Prine, Phil and Jason Everly, Eric 2 Clapton, and Nanci Griffith; now, therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas 4 hereby pay tribute to The Crickets for their many contributions to 5 Texas music and recognize March 16, 2005, as The Crickets Day in 6 Texas in their honor; and, be it further 7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 8 prepared for the members of The Crickets as an expression of high 9 regard by the Texas Senate and House of Representatives.

  • August 2012 Newsletter
August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.

  • Michael Downs Trying to Find My Li'l All 'N All (Sitting on Top of the World)
Michael Downs Trying to Find My Li’l All ’n All (Sitting on Top of the World) campground in Mississippi, a cold December dawn: I climbed from a A sleeping bag, befuddled by the clarity of morning. Blinking into sun-glare off the steady surfaces of ponds. Stumbling across frozen, heaved ground that had been mud the night before. Coffee could have helped, but I didn’t have any. My old dog nosed through dry leaves for the best place to piss. For two weeks she and I had traveled, a road-trip start to my fiftieth year. I’ d envisioned back roads from Baltimore to Austin, campgrounds and books, barbecue, reunion with loved ones—my parents, especially, given Mom’s flagging health and chronic pain. Kaimin would gain canine prestige by marking territory at the Clinton Library in Little Rock and Faulkner’s Rowan Oak in Oxford. That had been the plan, and much of it had come to pass. But this day involved a different agenda. Today I’ d see a man about a song—and not just any song, but one that for more than two decades had held me with an inex- plicable grip. On its face, “Sitting on Top of the World” is just an old blues tune, first recorded in 1930 by the Mississippi Sheiks. But it’s a shapeshifter, too, having been performed or recorded hundreds of times in everything from jazz to bluegrass to Texas swing, folk, and rock. Ray Charles, Jack White, the Carter Family, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Bill Frisell, The Grateful Dead—even the “Bye, bye, Miss American Pie” guy: they’ve all done it.
