Ghandy Management The Chairman spoke in moving terms about the loss suffered by the country in the death of Dr. J. G. Ghosh, who had worked all his life for the cause of education. Dr. Ghosh had been a member of the Council from its inception and had served it well and truly. It would be difficult to fill in the void caused by his death. Members stood in silence for a minute in memory of late Dr. J.C. Ghosh and passed the following condo­ lence resolution — “The All India Council for Technical Education places on record its deep sense of loss and profound sorrow at tiie passing away of Dr. J.C. Ghosh. Dr. Ghosh had been a member of the Council since its inception and his advice and guidance to the Council on all occasions was most valuable in the cause of Technical education in the country. With his passing away, the Council has suffered an irreparable loss.:’ The Chairman welcomed the members of the Council to the meet­ ing and delivered his inaugural address. A copy of the address is at Annexure I. The Council thereafter proceeded with the consideration of the Agenda (Annexure II). Item No. 1 :—To confirm the minutes of the 11th meeting of the C ouncil It was reported that the minutes of the eleventh meeting held at New Delhi on the 24th March, 1958 had been circulated to the members and no comments had been received. The minutes were confirmed. Item ]\ro. 2 :—To report the membership of the Reconstituted C ouncil Secretary reported that since the Agenda papers had been circulated, (1) Shri G.P. Kane had been elected as the Chairman of the Board of Studies in Chemical Engineeiing & Chemical Technology; (2) Shri M.P. Chitale had been nominated as a representative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, India ; (3) The Ministry of Steel, Mines & fuel had been given one more scat to represent the Department of Steel and Shri B.C. Mathur was nominated to this seat; (4 Shri Nagendra Singh had been nominated as the represcntath e of the Department of Transport in the Ministry of Transport & Communications, and (5) The Ministry of Transport & Communications had been given one more seat to represent the Department of Communications in the Ministry and Dr. D. C. Das had been nominated to this scat. The Council noted its membership as reconstituted. Item No. 3 :—To report the Action taken on the Recommendations/ Decisions of the Council made at the 11th meeting Competitive tests for admission to Engineering Colleges The Council noted with regret that the State Governments had not responded favourably to the suggestion made by it at the last meeting regarding the holding of common entrance examinations on regional basis for the purpose of admission to the Engineering Colleges in t h e country. Only six State Governments had replied to t h e communication sent by the Centre and all the six Governments had rejected t h e proposal. The Council was of the view that the State Governments had not generally appreciated the situation from the point of view of the candi­ dates seeking admission to engineering courses and had probably apprehended that the holding of common admission tests would lead to interference by the Regional or the Central Board in the matter of admission to the State Government and other institutions. It was explain­ ed that it was not the intention that Regional Examination Boards or the Central Coordinating Agency should take decisions on applications for admissions. These Boards would only render a service in that they would make available to the authorities of the various institutions in the country, their assessment of the candidates based on a common standard. Decisions on applications would si ill lie- with the individual States and 6 Colleges, but the candidates will not have to undergo the hardship of appearing for a number of examinations held by individual institutions. During the-course of discussion on this matter, the question of reserva­ t io n of seats in colleges for various classes and communities came up. The g e n e r a l concensus of opinion was that measures designed towards the improvement of conditions and larger provision of opportunities for Engineering Education for Backward Classes were necessary but such m e a s u r e s should net lead to large “wastages” in the colleges. Opportuni­ ties should be afforded to only who those are capable of profiting from them.

The work has been divided into two phases. In the first phase, pure diesel is tested in a CI engine and preparation of nanoparticles. Then in the second phase, performance characteristics are studied using the fuel added with nanoparticle in a four cylinder four stroke engine. The cerium oxide acts as an oxygen donating catalyst and provides oxygen for the oxidation of CO or absorbs oxygen for the reduction of NOx. ABSTRACT Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) plays an irreplaceable role in the overall wellbeing and development of societies. Wastewater treatment is an ongoing process that requires high- energy consumption, and this demand contributes negatively to climate change. Nonetheless, there are options available for energy production and recovery in WWTPs during its treatment process, which can also reduce the negative environmental impacts. This study aims to investigate the potential of energy production and recovery at one WWTP, and the reduction of environmental impacts achieved. The study site is a WWTP situated at Subiaco of Western Australia, operated by Water Corporation. Currently, the WWTP uses an activated sludge treatment system and aerobic sludge stabilisation system. This process does not allow for energy production and recovery. On the other hand, an anaerobic sludge treatment system can produce energy during its treatment process in the form of biogas that can be captured and converted into energy for treatment use. The research evaluated sludge samples from the Subiaco WWTP at the UWA SESE laboratory for the characteristics of the sludge. Laboratory batch scale anaerobic digestion studies were also carried out to evaluate the efficiency of the system.

Even nations with substantial oil resources can see the longer term benefits of drawing from diverse energy sources. With a goal of drawing on new energy resources, many nations find the planning of technology development and deployment diffi­ cult at best. Aside from the obvious problems of the heavy demands placed on energy planners and managers in developing countries, the additional loads of new information on energy technologies and resources may often fail to cross national boundaries. The experiences, plans, and insights of other workers in some areas of new energy technology are valuable to others and deserve to be shared. Within ASEAN, for example, there are a major oil refining centpr, two major crude producers, three nations predominantly dependent on biomass energy, and substantial reserves of lignite and low joule coals. In addition, research and limited commercialization of solar energy collectors is common to the five ASEAN netions. Looking at the potential for cooperative efforts among the ASEAN nations, the U.S. Agency for International Development initiated a program with the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand to foster information exchange and professional c.evelopment in the energy field.

Testing was performed on a representative number of heaters, boilers and cogeration gas fired turbines, and one sulfur recovery unit, one gasoline loading rack and one asphalt recovery incinerator.     NATIONAL BOARD FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM AND COURSE SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) IN EXPLOSIVES ORDNANCE TECHNOLOGY Plot B Bida Road P M B 2239, Kaduna, Nigeria January 2018 1 FOREWORD The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Explosives Ordnance Technology (EOT) is designed to replace the various syllabuses used by training bodies which produce manpower in the different sub-sectors of military personnel of Nigerian Army (NA), Nigerian Navy (NN), Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other authorized personnel. The acute shortage of professionally trained manpower in Explosives Ordnance Technology (EOT) in Nigeria as well as the need to produce Military Personnel with the ethics of the profession through the acquisition of desirable knowledge and skills informed the production of this national curriculum. It is my belief that this curriculum and course specifications which is the minimum requirement for producing professionals with sound knowledge and skills in Explosives Ordnance Technology (EOT), if properly implemented with the required resources (qualified teaching staff in adequate number, adequate consumables, training materials, teaching aids) and admission of qualified candidates into the programme, will lead to the production of the required competent and skilled manpower in the Military sector. I wish to express my deep appreciation to the Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna for collaborating with the Board by funding the entire exercise for the development of this curriculum. I wish to also express my appreciation to our stakeholders for their invaluable contributions to the development of this curriculum. I hope that this curriculum would be properly implemented so as to lead to the goal of producing the required Military Industry work force of our dreams.

FUELS INTRODUCTION The engine converts the heat energy which is obtained from the chemical combination of fuel with the oxygen, into mechanical energy. Since the heat energy is derived from the fuel, the fundamental knowledge in types of fuels and their characteristics is essential in order to understand the combustion phenomenon. Fuel is a combustible substance, containing carbon as main constituent, which on proper burninggives a large amount of heat, which can be used economically for domestic and industrial purposes. During the process of combustion of a fuel (like coal), the atoms of carbon, hydrogen, etc. combine with oxygen with the simultaneous liberation of heat at a rapid rate. FUEL + O2 PRODUCTS + HEAT The primary or main source of fuels are coals and petroleum oils. These are stored fuels available in earth's crust and are, generally, called 'fossil fuels'.
