The closest a Democratic challenger came to beating her was in 2006, when she was up against Peter Goldmark and won reelec- tion with 56.4 percent of the vote. Stuckart blames that on the backgrounds of the can- didates who’ve run, most of whom focused on their business experience but hadn’t held elected office, leaving them no “track re- cord” to point to. The 5th District isn’t included on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s 2018 list of target districts— Republican-held seats they think are vulnerable. And Stuckart’s campaign is still rough around the edges. He’s raised just $82,300, compared to the $2.7 mil- lion McMorris Rodgers raised for her last election. Stuckart has some time to catch up, though. This year, his campaign will focus on increasing his name recognition and talking about issues. To manage the cam- paign, Stuckart has hired Alex Scott, a relentlessly positive twentysomething who has an encyclopedic knowledge of Eastern Washington and served on his hometown’s city council when he was a college student. If a group somewhere in the sprawling dis- trict wants to host an event for Stuckart, Scott is determined to get his candidate there. In 2018, they’ll knock on doors. Over lunch at a sandwich shop in Walla Walla, Stuckart diagrams on a brown napkin for me just how much they’re going to door- knock: If 10 campaign volunteers go out every day of the month for eight months, and hit 50 doors every time they go out, the campaign can hit 120,000 doors by the 2018 primary. -

Neal Allen Anderson Mark Katz © 2017 Alexander Harvey Marsden ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Alexander Harvey Marsden: “One Line Flows, Yeah I Got Some of Those”: Genre, Tradition, and the Reception of Rhythmic Regularity in Grime Flow (Under the direction of Jocelyn Neal) In its musical style and performance practices, the British rap genre grime bears the traces of London’s electronic dance music scene, out of which it emerged in the early 2000s. One such trace is grime’s characteristic style of flow—the rhythmic dimensions of a rapper’s delivery of text—and the role that this plays in encouraging grime’s listeners to move. This thesis argues that grime flow exhibits a tendency towards rhythmic regularity, which differentiates it from flow styles that tend toward irregularity. Drawing from music cognition and music-theoretic work on the pleasures of repetition for listeners, particularly in electronic dance music, it asks what listeners find engaging about grime flow’s regularity. It argues, through an analysis of Skepta’s “That’s Not Me,” that grime flow encourages a participatory mode of listening from its audience, which in turn contributes to a broader orientation towards communality in the genre. -

For immediate release: February 20, 2007 Media contacts: Erik Pepple, 614 688-3261 or [email protected] BILL FRISELL’S DISFARMER PROJECT DEBUTS AT WEXNER CENTER WEXNER CENTER COMMISSION INSPIRED BY WORK OF PHOTOGRAPHER MIKE DISFARMER Guitarist Bill Frisell, along with violinist Jenny Scheinman and lap steel guitar player Greg Leisz, perform the world premiere of Musical Portraits from Heber Spring: Bill Frisell’s Disfarmer Project on Saturday March 3 at 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm at the Wexner Center. Inspired by the life, work, and subjects of eccentric photographer Mike Disfarmer, this production was commissioned by the Wexner Center. The haunting and stark photographs taken by Disfarmer in a small Bill Frisell / Photo: Jimmy Katz Arkansas town in the 1940s and 1950s are now widely admired works of outsider art. Using these as a starting point, Frisell will echo their timeless, captivating quality by balancing evocative atmospherics and traditional American musical forms to create his suite inspired by Disfarmer. Along with violinist Scheinman and lap steel guitar player Leisz, these compositions draw in part on traditional Ozark fiddle music (Disfarmer was an avid fiddler himself). During the performance, projected images of Disfarmer's portraits will further illuminate Frisell's musical perspectives on this fascinating character. The New York Times described Frisell’s music in this way: “It's hard to find a more fruitful meditation on American music than in the compositions of guitarist Bill Frisell. Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least. -

29 Jan, 2018 Paul Hardy’s Session Tunebook 2017 Introduction This tunebook contains tunes I have learned to play on my English concertina, that are played at folk music sessions: particularly around Cambridge (England) and Redlands (California), and at some UK concertina gatherings like those at Kilve in Somerset. They should also be playable on other folk melody instruments like fiddle, whistle, flute, or dulcimer. Most are traditional tunes from the British Isles, including many English, Irish, and Scottish dance tunes, but others are an eclectic mix of session favourites. Many have been learned by ear or handouts from various sessions in the UK and US, while others have been adapted from Internet resources, in abc, midi or visual score formats. All are believed free of current copyright (unless noted explicitly), or else appear to have been placed in the public domain as part of the ongoing live folk music tradition. Please let me know if you are the owner of any that are under access restrictions and I’ll remove them. I have tried to present simple versions of most tunes, without much decoration and interpretation, so add your own triplets, grace notes and variations. I have included guitar chords, sometimes refined from computer-generated ones - use these as guidance, not definitive! Tunes in 4/4 time that have the rhythm indication "Hornpipe" should usually be ’swung’ - lengthen the first and shorten the second in every pair of quavers - as in "Thursday". Elsewhere these are sometimes written as ’dotted quaver, semiquaver’, but that ratio of 3:1 seems too high - perhaps try for around 2:1.
