THE QUAY SESSIONS

A special Bank Holiday recording of Radio Scotland’s music show The Quay Sessions will be headlined by KT Tunstall.

The Scottish singer, who recently fronted a TV highlights package of the radio show and will be playing this year’s Proms in the Park, will top the bill alongside Gaelic Folk Singer Julie Fowlis on Monday, August 29.

The ballot for free tickets to the event will go live at http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/ on Thursday, August 18 at 8am.

The recording, at BBC Scotland’s Pacific Quay headquarters, will also see the unveiling of the new presenter of critically acclaimed music showcase – Roddy Hart.

Says Roddy: “I’m utterly thrilled to be asked to be the new host of BBC Radio Scotland’s music show, The Quay Sessions. It’s a challenge I’m excited to meet and I can’t wait to take the show into a new phase of its life.

“As a musician, I know just how important it is for both emerging and established artists to have the chance for their music to be heard and seen, and this show is an amazing opportunity to bring home- grown and international talent to our audiences down by the banks of the River Clyde at Pacific Quay. It’s one of Scotland’s most unique gigs, and I look forward to what will surely be some very special nights there."

The singer-songwriter, who already presents a weekly music show for BBC Radio Scotland, also curates the Roaming Roots Revue for Celtic Connections each year and was Associate Musical Director of Sunshine on Leith.

His first Quay Sessions, as a presenter, will transmit on BBC Radio Scotland on Thursday, September 15 at 9pm.

Highlights from previous Quay Sessions are available online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/quaysessions

Trusadh - Croitearan Leodhais (Next Customer Please), Ep 1/2  NEW Monday 29 August BBC ALBA, 9.00 – 9.55pm

This special two-part Trusadh takes a look at the busy hub that is Lewis Crofters, an agricultural co- operative that has been serving local crofters for close to 60 years and one of the busiest shops in Lewis and Harris. With a population of over 20,000 people between both islands, the shop is very much in demand with products varying from kitchen essentials to outdoor clothing, and from fencing to all types of feed for the croft. We follow the staff both in the shop and on the road. Amongst the regulars in the shop are the students from Macaulay College, a community interest company that helps those with additional social and educational requirements. They visit the shop every week for food for their animals, and seed for their polytunnels. Meanwhile, John Murdo Matheson clocks up the miles in the lorry as he delivers feed to the customers. Trusadhalso sees a special visitor making an appearance in the shop at their busiest time.

THURSDAY 1 SEPTEMBER TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 35 ______

Scotland’s Game, Ep 2/4 Thursday 1 September BBC One Scotland, 9.00 – 10.00pm

Perfect Storm - the second episode of the compelling documentary series that tackles the last thirty years of Scottish football - turns the spotlight on new money and media and how they brought seismic changes to the so-called beautiful game. Football had become a global brand and Scotland was keen for its share of the action and the cash. But the huge injections of finance came at a price. Top players demanded higher wages, kick off times were changed and TV now called the shots. Clubs desperate to compete in this new world were vulnerable to ambitious but dubious schemes, mavericks claiming to have deep pockets and ego-driven illusions. Almost overnight the dual drivers of money and media transformed the game – but left Scottish football struggling to forge an identity that would carry it into the future. The episode tells the inside story of the fall-out in football’s hierarchy as lucrative rights deals were pursued and scrutinises the roller-coaster journeys of several clubs in Scotland’s top flight during this turbulent period. Among the contributors are former Old Firm managers, Martin O’ Neill and Alex McLeish, ex-Hearts manager, George Burley, and Ann Budge, the club’s current chief executive and chairwoman, Pat Nevin, ex-chief executive of Motherwell, playwright Alan Bissett, and journalists and broadcasters Tom English and Stuart Cosgrove and former player, Steven Pressley.
