Greenwood Little Theatre Presents

Vintage Hitchcock A Live Radio Play By Joe Landry October 3—6, 2013 Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 7:30 pm Sunday matinee at 2 pm

Vintage Hitchcock A Live Radio Play By Joe Landry Directed by Pam Powers and Eddie Amelung

Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (www.playscripts.com)

Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play is an evening of adaptations of two early films directed by : and The 39 Steps. Spies, murder, love, and other trademarks of Alfred Hitchcock come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast of the master of sus- pense's earlier films, with actors playing dozens of characters, live sound effects and musical underscoring and complete with vin- tage commercials.

Alfred Hitchcock is perhaps still the best known and most influential filmmaker in the world, but most people know the Hitchcock of the later period: the director of North by Northwest, Psycho, Vertigo, and The Birds, and the genially macabre host of the long-running television show Alfred Hitchcock Presents. But there is also a formidable Hitchcock of a far older vintage: Hitchcock before he came to America; before he met Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, and Grace Kelly; and hard at work even before the days of talking pictures. The Lodger was not his first film, but it was the one he often described as "the first Hitchcock film." The 39 Steps, often taken as the template for the more well-known North by Northwest, was the second in a series of films that established Alfred Hitch- cock's reputation as a master of thrillers.

biographies

Lorna Boyd returns to our stage, having been seen last in Dixie Swim Club and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She has also assisted with the Children's Summer Workshop and backstage make-up, and has performed at the Whistlestop Theater in Cleveland and at Delta Center Stage in Greenville with a role in A Christmas Carol. A Greenville native, Lorna has called Greenwood home for the past four years and is an account executive with SuperTalk MS/WYMX Max 99 radio - so Vintage Hitch- cock was a natural fit for her! Lorna loves the theater, and she says, "Getting to be famous at Lorna Boyd GLT is as good as it gets!"

Greenwood native Clements Odom was first seen at GLT in Tom Sawyer in 1987, and has appeared in many memorable productions on our stage, in- cluding 1993's The Sound of Music. As a theatre major at Ole Miss, he performed in Into The Woods as Jack (his favorite role), and Six De- grees of Separation, among others. Clements al- so spent time in New York, where he trained at both the Tisch School of the Arts Summer Acting Intensive and at the New Actor's Workshop. Clements relocated back to the Delta from New Orleans in 2011, and Vintage Hitchcock marks his return to the GLT stage after nearly 17 years. He credits his early introduction to acting and Clements Odom theatre to "two amazing ladies: Celia Emmerich and Margie Amelung."

Will Perkins, a Greenwood native now living in Savannah, GA, is a self employed former man- ager of an architectural antiques company. He was last seen in Mama Won't Fly but has also ap- peared in several other productions for GLT and Pillow Academy, where he was a founding mem- ber of the Thespian Society. He lists his favorite role as Prince Dauntless in GLT's Once Upon a Mattress in 2001, where he learned from many GLT veterans who are now gone. Will's creativi- ty not only shows in his acting, but on the set - he designed our wonderful, 1940's era Vintage Will Perkins Hitchcock radio station. Will states that it is "great to work with so many I have only seen on stage. Such great dynamics! Jessica Roberts is the best actress to work off of."

Jessica Roberts is a Greenwood native and server at Lusco's Restaurant. She last appeared in last season's Mama Won't Fly and Smokey Joe's Café, but also had notable roles in 2003's God- spell and 2007's Gypsy, where she played her fa- vorite role of Gypsy Rose Lee. Besides her many productions at GLT, Jessica has also been in- volved at the theater and dance department at USM and in the Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera. Jessica Roberts She has directed and choreographed many sum- mer workshops, GLT musical numbers, and Pil- low Academy productions, and she is a past pres- ident and charter member of PA's Thespian Soci- ety. Jessica says, "loving the theatre and being a former DJ at 960AM, it's been fabulous getting back to theater roots on radio, and especially working with Will Perkins again!"

John Rose " began his theatre career with such pivotal roles as Man at Shop Window and Second Urchin. His most recent theatre credits include The Beginning - Part Six, No Brits Please, We're Sexually Active and OklaHomoSapiens: The Evo- John Rose lution of the Midwestern Species. His main hob-

by is just trying to get a minute alone, for Pete's sake!" (Actually, John is a native of Meridian, has lived in Greenwood since 1993 and teaches art in the Greenwood public schools, owns a vast collection of classic monster and superhero mem- orabilia, returns to the GLT stage after an absence of over 10 years, is a master of accents and dia- lects, and is QUITE a character - we are pleased to see him back).

GLT veteran Linda Stokes once again brings her brand of audience pleasing creativity to our stage. Linda is a native of Birmingham but has lived in Greenwood for 20 years, is retired, and loves working in her house and garden and caring for her many animals. Her past productions at GLT include Moon Over Buffalo, Blithe Spirit, and Steel Magnolias, in which her role as Ouiser was Linda Stokes her favorite. She has also assisted in directing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Who's Afraid of Vir- ginia Woolf, and served as GLT's secretary for many years. Linda would like to thank all of the supportive and talented people involved in this production, and especially her husband Ken. "I love acting and he knows it!"

Bobby VanDevender is a native of Kemper County but has been a Greenwood resident for many years, and is a partner in the CPA firm of Fred T. Neely & Co. A longtime favorite GLT actor and director, Bobby was last seen in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Noises Off, and Jesus Christ Superstar. He has directed Bobby such classics as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, VanDevender Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and A Streetcar Named Desire, where his passion for directing dramas, and especially the works of Tennessee Williams, produced fabulous results. Bobby is a past presi- dent of GLT and served as treasurer for many years. His favorite role was as Tom Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie.

Tom Weldon is a native of New Jersey who has lived off and on in the Teoc area for 20 years, along with his parents, Dr. Thomas and Loretta Weldon. Tom is brand new to the GLT stage. In fact, aside from playing piano at a school talent show many years ago, this is his first appearance on ANY stage! Tom is single, has worked with computer data entry and mapping, and likes fish- ing and astronomy in his spare time. His easy- going personality has served him well among this cast full of stage veterans. We welcome Tom in his stage debut, and are so pleased he chose GLT for his first acting experience - hopefully the first of many! Tom would like to give thanks to his loving and supportive family.

Seth Wheatley III is a Greenwood native and a longtime member of GLT. Seth got his start in Tom Weldon summer workshops and has worked in all facets of the theater ever since, both onstage and behind the scenes. He has performed in GLT's Noises Off, No Time For Sergeants, and The Music Man among many others, and was assistant director for last season's Moon Over Buffalo. He lists his fa- vorite role as Dr. Einstein in Arsenic and Old Lace. Seth also has theater credits at Millsaps College and Indianola's MDAA. He is currently serving on GLT's Board of Governors as co-chair of lighting. Seth's unique voice talents landed him the perfect role as our Hitchcock announcer!

Pam Powers (Co-director) is a native of Yazoo City, lived in Greenwood during high school and Seth Wheatley III as a young adult, then moved to Vicksburg - but has been back in Greenwood with husband Mo since 2007. She is retired from the U.S. Corps of Engineers as a computer programmer and hydrol- ogist, and is currently a realtor in Greenwood and Oxford. A natural on the stage, Pam first became involved at GLT in the 1970's, performing in such classic comedies as Last of the Red Hot Lovers and The Odd Couple. She finally made her triumphant return to the GLT stage in 2012's

Dixie Swim Club. Pam was also a speech teach- er at Pillow Academy in the early 1970's, where she directed several senior plays - including PA's first ever senior play, Dial M For Murder. Pam is currently serving on GLT's Board of Governors and she lists her favorite role as Jill Tanner in Butterflies Are Free at Vicksburg Little Theatre. It's a pleasure to finally have Pam directing a show for GLT! She states, "I am blown away by the talent that we have participating in this pro- duction, and I have enjoyed working with the gifted Eddie Amelung as co-director. What a treat!"

Eddie Amelung (Co-director), longtime GLT actor, director, and supporter, once again returns to the director's chair with Pam Powers in Vin- Pam Powers tage Hitchcock. A Greenwood native and phar- macist/manager at Greenwood Downtown Drugs, Eddie has been involved with GLT since the early days of the theatre's existence. His first play was a non-speaking role in the first children's play performed at the W. M. Whittington, Jr. Play- house, directed by his mother Margie when our building was new in 1967. Since that time, Eddie has been involved in over 40 shows at GLT, in- cluding roles in Noises Off, M*A*S*H, and Driv- ing Miss Daisy. He has directed such smash hits as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar. His fa- vorite role was as the King in The King and I at Indianola's MDAA. Eddie has served multiple Eddie Amelung terms on GLT's Board of Governors, was presi- dent during GLT's 50th Anniversary Season, and has performed at New Stage in Jackson and at the Bologna Performing Arts Center at DSU. Eddie would like to thank Pam Powers, "my very talent- ed and very persuasive co-director, for talking me into taking this plunge with her. I agreed because this show is unlike any production we have ever done at GLT, and it's loaded with excellent per- formers. Enjoy!"
