Table Mountain Cable Way Since it's opening in 1929, over 16 million people have taken the trip to the top of Table Mountain. The Table Mountain cableway has since become something of a landmark in Cape Town having a revolving floor that allows passengers a 360-degree view of the city and Table Mountain as they travel. It can be reached by heading up Kloof Street, then turning left at the saddle between Table Mountain and Lion's Head onto Tafelberg Road.

Table Mountain National Park Most visitors will ascend the mountain by way of cable car. But for those who are up to the challenge, there are several trails that also lead to the top, the most common route being Platteklip Gorge Hiking Trail. Several groups offer caving and rock climbing, and for those seeking a quicker and more thrilling descent, abseiling.
Form the summit, the view across the city is nothing less than spectacular. For such a popular tourist spot, the mountain top is surprisingly unspoilt. There are very few facilities other than a small restaurant, and of course the upper cable way station.
Signal Hill, Lion’s Head and the Noon Day Gun Signal Hill derives its name from the days when a communication post on the side of the hill was used to send signals to ships in the harbour. The daily noon gun, accurate to the nearest millisecond, booms over the Mother City, and never ceases to surprise even long-term Capetonians, and certainly has visitors looking anxious. The canon has been fired everyday except Sunday, since 1902. The firing is carried out with military precision by the South African Astronomical Observatory who take such things quite seriously. An electric cartridge is loaded into the cannon which is then triggered remotely by the Observatory's master clock.
Signal Hill is also referred to as Lion's Rump due to its position relative to Lion's Head. At 300m the hill affords a good view across the City Bowl and Table Bay. If you're unable to take the Cable Car to the top of Table Mountain, then Signal Hill is the next best thing.
There is a moderately strenuous hiking trail of about and hour and 50 minutes that spirals up around Lion's Head that gives a much better view of the city and also overlooks Camps Bay and Sea Point. The trail begins at a gravel parking lot located under a patch of bluegum trees near the beginning of Signal Hill Rd.

Company Gardens Company Gardens is a large public park and botanical garden set in the heart of Cape Town, home to a rose garden, Japanese garden, fish pond and aviary. Roaming Company Gardens, past the back of Parliament and Tuynhuys, the President’s official residence when in the mother city, is part of every visitor’s schedule to Cape Town, and well worth the visit. Lunch hour in Company Gardens is generally teeming with locals, who seek out the fresh air and beautiful views of Table Mountain. The tree-lined avenue, with its benches and resident squirrels, forms a pathway between the suburb of Gardens and the city centre, and there are a number of other important buildings within the garden - the South African Museum, the Planetarium and the South African Art Gallery included.
Robben Island The standard tour to Robben Island is 3.5 hours long, including the two half-hour ferry rides. Ferries depart from the V & A Waterfront. The Robben Island Tour includes a return trip across Table Bay, a visit to the Maximum Security Prison, interaction with an ex-political prisoner and a 45 minute bus tour with a guide providing commentary.
Gardens Centre Gardens Centre is the most popular shopping centre in the Cape Town City Bowl.
