Beside as an old market, this corridor is also located in the heart of Banda Aceh city and next to Baiturrahman Grand Mosque. The existing market condition and activities are crowded and it can cause uncomfortable situation for visitors. Pedestrian mall concept has long been applied by Banda Aceh municipal government, but it seems did not run very well, particularly after the earthquake and tsunami disaster. The purpose of this research is to apply pedestrian mall concept at shopping area Jalan Perdagangan Pasar Aceh, by placing comfort element to pedestrian (pedestrian oriented), recreative, and linkage to Baiturrahman Grand Mosque and Pasar Aceh area. Theoretical framework is about shopping area and pedestrian mall as open space with specific criteria as public area. Then, the analysis process used descriptive qualitative method to analyze level of comfort, function, trend of growth, and also some other uncountable aspects. Pedestrian mall concept will be applied through strategy area regulation, that is by developing urban design concepts like linkage system development and urban design elements which consist of function zoning, building mass and form, circulation system, pedestrian ways, open spaces and vegetation, activity support, parking, and preservation. This concept is expected to create convenience condition especially for pedestrian, to be recreative, attractive, lively, accesible, and have direct link with Grand Mosque Baiturrahman and Pasar Aceh area. Keywords: shopping corridor, market, pedestrian mall, linkage. INTRODUCTION City as a complex environment, is always experiencing changes, either physical or non-physical changes. This is a natural process and it is also right and proper. However, not all changes lead to positive environmental repairment. It can also cause the contrary one, lead to negative changes, drive towards physical loose in a particular assisted environmental. Likewise, Perdagangan St corridor, as one of the most crowded shopping center corridors in Banda Aceh downtown as well as the symbol and image of Banda Aceh – the veranda of Mecca, where this street is located beside Masjid Raya Baiturrahman mosque area. Aftermath tsunami dan earthquake disaster on the 24th december 2004, the physical condition of this trading site was badly damaged, so that it is improper to be used and abandoned. But as the reconstruction and rehabilitation in Aceh took place, this trading site has become far more better and normal again. Nowadays, the condition of this trading site has become increasingly crowdy and caused imcomfortability for visitors, buyers or for those who would have a shopping windows (sightseeing, have a walk in retail shop without buying things). The concept of pedestrian mall which previously would like to be implemented by the city adminsitration is far from the true concept of pedestrian mall. This can be seen from the inability to meet the standard of excellent pedestrian mall with full concern on the main area users, because the existing main pedestrian has become a site for traditional merchants. Another reason is because the unavailability of some other aspects that support the function and comfortability such as vegetation, street furniture, signage, and irregular circulation. This research will discuss how to implement a concept of pedestrian mall as a process of shopping center corrrdor area revitalization of Perdagangan St (Trade Street) in Pasar Aceh (Aceh Market) to be an attractive, comfortable and interesting shopping site area for its visitors by provide a linkage area between Masjid Raya Baiturrahman and Pasar Aceh, so that it can create an exlusive image for the city of Banda Aceh The scope of this research is to conduct identification based analysis on potentiality and problems of the reseach area object. Then, to formulate a concept of area design (micro design idea), which in the end will be a proposal of area 88 design. The border of research area is the corridor of Perdagangan St, Pasar Aceh and Masjid Raya Baiturrahman. Whilst the border of design are will focus on Perdagangan St corridor. The aim of this research is to implement an excellent pedestrian mall concept to Perdagangan St corridor of trading site by introducing the sense of comfortability for pedestrian (pedestrian oriented), recreative and linkage with Masjid Raya Baiturrahman and Pasar Atjeh. Then, the final aim of this research is to obtain
