The instrument is essentially an experiment in sound design and forms the foundation for a much larger forthcoming library based around tempo-synced morphing technology.

The big difference between Cinematic FX and other commercial libraries is the 'Morphing' function. The morphing function allows 2 sounds to be simultaneously played and blended together over time. So a vocal chant can be combined with a to create interesting sonic textures that evolve and blend over time.

Featuring unique woodwind sections, vocals, and string section effects and events, this can turn your suspense/horror/action cue into a true thriller!

Welcome to the world of Kontakt Morphing Technology! Testimonials “Cinematic Tension FX is a treasure chest of disturbing sounds that have inspired me on many projects. Open it if you dare!”

John Ottman, composer X2, Fantastic Four, The Apt Pupil (http://www.johnottman.com/biography/index.php)

“Frightening textures, great for film scores. The only thing scarier than these sounds is Frank himself!”

George S. Clinton, composer Austin Powers Trilogy, Wild Things (http://www.georgesclinton.com/home.php)

Frank Macchia's "Cinematic Tension" suite is loaded with wild and fun performance effects. The "Chinese Flute" alone, is worth the price of admission. But there are many more interesting and useful instruments in this collection, especially the string clusters and prepared . The simple interface makes the navigation and customizing of sounds fast and easy. Add a delay and additional effects, and you'll discover another portal in your atmospheric palate. Ruling!

Installation

The library is supplied as a single Zip file. This is a compressed folder that you can open using the built in tools on your computer. Open the file by double clicking and it will decompress the contents. Once decompression is complete you will have a single folder, this contains all the files needed to use the sample library. Simply copy this folder to the drive where you store your samples. For top performance it is recommended you keep sample libraries on a different drive to that of the OS and program files.

Running The Library

Once inside Kontakt, if you open the file tab in the browser window on the left-hand side you can browse to the instruments of the newly installed sample library. Just double click the NKI you wish to use and Kontakt will load it up. You can also make use of Kontakt's Quick Load feature to make it even easier to load libraries into Kontakt: Please refer to the Kontakt user manual for more information. The Concept

Cinematic Tension FX is essentially two instruments which can be blended or ‘morphed’ together. The interface has been split down the middle with each side dedicated to controlling each set of sounds. Each sound can be manipulated and then saved as a preset. Presets can be recalled instantly using dynamic keyswitching and then 'morphed' together using the modwheel. This results in a very simple instrument that gives a full spectrum of sonic effects for any purpose. The Interface

Each side of the instrument (channel) gives control over volume, pitch, ADSR and distortion separately

Channel 1 Channel 2 Morphing

The morphing concept is very simple. Simply use the modwheel to blend the 2 channels together. The modwheel position can be recorded in your DAW so you can begin a phrase with a flute sound for example and end the phrase with a distorted sound. This gives you the ability to create truly unique effects on the fly. The Sample Library

There are 25 customised sets of samples for each channel. Use the ‘Sample Set’ drop-down list to select the set of sounds that you want to use.

The Keymapping

The presets can be recalled instantly using with dynamic keyswitching. The red coloured keys will instantly load presets 1 through 10 from the left channel while the green keys will load presets contained in the right channel. This allows you to easily cycle through various sounds and presets in one passage of music without having to load up multiple instances of the Cinematic Tension.

Left Side Right Side Sample Mapping Keyswitches Keyswitches The Presets

There are 16 presets which can be stored and loaded for each channel. The presets are independent so you get16 presets on the left channel and 16 presets on the right. Simply choose the preset number with the drop-down list and click either the Save or Load button below.

In order to save the presets for future use you will need to save the nki file. We suggest you resave the nki with your project and give them unique names so you can create a bank of pre-defined presets ready for easy access. The Effects

We have included a set of basic effects to give you more control over the sounds.

The HPF and LPF are HighPass and LowPass filter and only affect the corresponding samples (Instrument 1 or Instrument 2) and are saved along with all other settings when saving presets.

The Delay and Reverb are universal controls that affects both sets in tandem but do not get saved with the presets.

The effects can be bypassed quickly by hitting the ‘Bypass FX’ button.

Delay Controls: Reverb Controls: T = Time P = Pre-Delay D = Damping S = Reverb Size P = Panning D = Direct (Dry) Signal F= Feedback W = Wet Signal
