Update August 2020

This new communication method is an effort by your SBC Elders to better connect with and update our family on some of the activities with which the Elder board has been involved. For more information or to share concerns please contact one of your SBC Elders. There are normally two elder board meetings each month. The first meeting will include staff, and focus on staff development and prayer. The second monthly meeting will include only the elders and will focus on our considerations.

● Don provided the Elder Reflection from Psalm 133 on unity of the elder and of the body of Christ. Our unity is a from God, born of humility under His Lordship, modeled among our people, and strengthening us in our service in the Kingdom together.

● Funds on hand are doing well one month into the new church year. We continue to be grateful for the faithfulness of the SBC community.

Steve described the next series of Sunday messages on the Life of . The series will concentrate on five significant characteristics of the life of Jesus: ‣ Where I see the power of Jesus ‣ Where I see the wisdom and brilliance of Jesus ‣ Where I see the grace, mercy, and forgiveness of Jesus ‣ Where I see the new life of Jesus ‣ Where I find hope through Jesus Our vision and purpose is to help our people become rooted again in the .

● We are developing new Ministry Teams, to (a) broaden our leadership to be more mission-driven, (b) deepen our leadership to be mixed-gender and multi-generational, and (c) help more people actively participate and be equipped for SBC’s mission. The teams tentatively include: Resource Development, Families, Communication, ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Student Ministries, Worship, Discipleship, Site Planning and Stewardship, Men’s ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Marriage, and Hospitality. ​ ​ ​ ​

● With Jason Rivera moving to part-time Worship Pastor, we approved hiring an assistant worship director to help provide shepherding and leading of the volunteers.

● An active Youth Pastor Search process has begun with the team composed of Jackie Bearden, Holly Harris, Nate Levering, Steve Orth, Emily Schaffer, and Dave York.

● Unanimously confirmed elder terms of service as a minimum of three years, with a mutual agreement for an added three years, thereafter taking a mandatory one-year sabbatical.

● The Board also unanimously re-confirmed our commitment that our decisions be made by unanimity, except as otherwise authorized.
