State Disclaimers: twgf.co/legal Giving Life, One Donation at a Time By Rebecca Robertson You’re probably not surprised to see an article asking you to donate blood. We’re in a pandemic after all, right? Surprisingly, patients ill with COVID-19 aren’t creating the shortage of blood, reports Gulf Coast Regional Blood spokesperson, Kevin Shipley. It’s all of those responsible citizens staying home. It makes sense if you think about it. As we avoid extra trips out and non-essential social situations, we’ve started to make it a habit to postpone those things we should do, and the Blood Center is feeling the effects. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center services 26 counties, which includes Houston and the Houston Medical Center. Though our large population has its fair share of pandemic patients and trauma needs, the greatest demand for blood comes from everyday, necessary medical procedures like chemotherapy and childbirth, among others. It’s safe to say that the need isn’t going away. Did you know that 1 out of 7 people benefit from donations but only 1 out of 20 actually donate? Of those that do, most do so less than once a year. We have some room for improvement here, people! Each blood donation can benefit up to three patients, and as of June 15, 2020, all donations are tested for the COVID-19 antibody. While Community Blood Drives are still available, you can schedule a donation time that works for you at one of the fourteen area Neighborhood Donor Centers which allow for online appointments, reminders, and well-equipped facilities, all socially distanced and sanitized for your protection. So, as you wrap up yet one more Zoom call, take a minute to visit www.giveblood.org and schedule your donation today. If getting out of the house still brings a twinge of worry, these folks have been wearing gloves, wiping everything down, and washing hands since 1975, and saving countless lives in the process. The necessity for continuous care is common and a growing trend across the globe. In Texas, Sundance Memory Care Communities offer a unique approach. While many facilities solely address care for the physical person, Sundance uses a Montessori approach to address much, much more. Yes, Montessori, like that great little school you sent your kids to way back when. The Montessori approach highlights hands-on activities, independence, cooperation, and learning tailored to each person. For children, this means a more customized and flexible approach, thought to produce independence, improved social skills, and responsibility. Like a young child, a person who has begun to lose cognitive skills comes with a foundation of interests and capabilities that are ingrained. This unique history creates an ideal starting point for combining day-to-day routines with a necessary new environment, an environment better adapted to with this Montessori approach to learning. This key premise is at the core of the programs offered at Sundance with activities based on each resident’s story. In a nutshell, this means abundant years of life experience – what they did for a living, where they lived, what family they created, what they were good at. All of this remains an important part of each resident’s identity. Connection to their life, even though abilities have changed, set the framework for the client’s best life moving forward, a life filled with respect, dignity, and equality. Beyond services to its residents, Sundance offers education programs at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels designed for family members and loved ones, guardians, estate planners, as well as industry professionals seeking continuing education credits. These online and, when available, in-person courses are a great way to get a better understanding of what dementia is, gain insights about leading research, and help create strategies for care for a loved one. Scrubs(series) - The Free Online Dictionary and Encyclopedia (TFODE) 11/21/13 7:56 AM Scrubs(series) - 2 results found: Wikipedia, twitter Pronunciation - English Wikipedia Scrubs (TV series) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Scrubs(series)) Scrubs is an American medical comedy-drama television series created by Bill Lawrence that aired from October 2, 2001 to March 17, 2010 on NBC and later ABC. The series follows the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart teaching hospital. The title is a play on surgical scrubs and a term for a low-ranking person because at the beginning of the series, most of the main characters were medical interns. The series features fast-paced screenplay, slapstick, and surreal vignettes presented mostly as the daydreams of the central character, Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, who is played by Zach Braff. Actors starring alongside Braff in the first eight seasons included Sarah Chalke Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes. The series has also featured multiple guest appearances by film actors, such as Brendan Fraser, Heather Graham, and Colin Farrell. In the ninth season, many new cast members were introduced and the show setting moved from a hospital to a medical school. Out of the original cast, only Braff, Faison and McGinley became regular cast members while the others, with the exception of Reyes, made guest appearances. Braff appeared in six episodes of the ninth season before departing. Kerry Bishé, Eliza Coupe, Dave Franco, and Mosley became series regulars with Bishé becoming the show's new narrator.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow: Finding the Cure for Oscars-So-White Color- Blindness The Oscars® are synonymous with the aspirational best in the film industry, however, racial dominance and the consistent underrepresentation of ethnic and minority groups continues to prevail. The lack of diverse representation in Hollywood is not only a massive barrier to the projection of a better tomorrow for a generation of Americans, it is a lost opportunity for the U.S. to take a lead as a model global force for equality. A recent report produced by the Media, Diversity and Social Change Initiative at USC Annenberg confirms that only 1.3% of leading roles in Hollywood productions have Asian actors and over 50% of productions fail to include any Asian characters. The author, Dr. Stacy Smith states, “This is no mere diversity problem… this is an inclusion crisis.” If Hollywood were desegregated, the representation of a diverse society could be a powerful force to rapidly break down stereotypes and properly represent the true mosaic of U.S. society. The implications of such equal portrayal would cut across all aspects of society from pay equity for hourly work to representation across professional vocations. 1.

TV LAND GETS ITS “SCRUBS” ON AND GOES ON ROUNDS DURING A LABOR DAY MARATHON ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 New York, NY, August 25, 2008 - TV Land’s got just what the doctor ordered with a prescription sure to tickle the funny bone when “Scrubs” premieres on Labor Day with a 7-hour marathon on Monday, September 1. Join J.D., Turk, Elliot, Carla, Dr. Cox and the entire Sacred Heart Hospital staff beginning at 4 p.m. (ET/PT) as they heal patients, mend broken hearts and keep viewers in stitches. “Scrubs” joins TV Land’s line-up in its regularly scheduled timeslot of 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) from Monday to Friday beginning Tuesday, September 2. “‘Scrubs’ is the perfect contemporary acquisition for TV Land as the network continues to grow as the ultimate entertainment network for people in their 40s and 50s,” states Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and the entire cast is at their comedic best and their neurotic and side-splitting antics keep viewers laughing all night long. The quick-wit and humor of this series definitely appeals to our audience, and it is precisely the reason why TV Land voted it the winner of the 2001 Future Classic Award.” “Scrubs” follows the dynamic daily routines and bizarre happenings of the Sacred Heart hospital staff. Having premiered in October 2001, the series continues to be a prime time network hit as John “J.D.” Dorian (Zach Braff) narrates the everyday personal and professional challenges that he and surgical intern and college buddy Chris Turk (Donald Faison) and the ambitious yet quirky intern Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke) face.
