Synthesizers and Guitar Pedals Designed and Manufactured in Portland Oregon Usa SYNTHESIZERS AND GUITAR PEDALS DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED IN PORTLAND OREGON USA WWW.MALEKKOHEAVYINDUSTRY.COM Malekko Heavy Industry Corporation is based in Portland, Oregon and proudly produces products made in the USA including the EKKO 616 and B:ASSMASTER pedals as well as the VARIGATE 8+, VOLTAGE BLOCK and SYSTEM-500 Eurorack modules. Malekko is co-owned by entrepreneur Josh Holley and music industry veteran Paul Barker. Paul Barker is a former member of the bands Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Lard, Pailhead, The Blackouts, Lead Into Gold, PTP, Acid Horse and others. As a recording and touring musician and producer, Barker has performed in venues world-wide and brings to the Malekko aesthetic his personal and practical experience in using vintage and new gear onstage and off. Barker co-produced all of Ministry’s albums from "Land of Rape and Honey" through "Animositisomina", including "Psalm 69" under the moniker "Hermes Pan" of the Luxa/Pan production team. Josh Holley is a long-time fan of synthesizers and is extremely knowledgeable on the subject, from vintage to modern instruments. His passion and vision propels development toward new frontiers of audio sculpting devices. All Malekko products carry the personal stamps of approval of both Josh & Paul- “Superlative”. A litte bit of history: Having survived the joys of playing in a band together for a year, in 2006 the two intrepid owners of MALEKKO hit upon the brilliant idea of working together in commerce. Fortunately, they were not living in the same state at that time. This allowed an unencumbered genesis to occur on and around, and I mean all around, a kitchen table. Kitchen tables, being what they are, and the fabu- lous Barker B:ASSMASTER, being what it is, soon demanded that a new and proper "shop" be acquired for the expanding business. This new space also allowed a certain sanity to settle over the kitchen by shifting the location of the experienced emotional extremes brought on by the now year-old company's growth. No more smashed crockery, crushed pedals now littered the expan- sive parking lot, run over in just reward for their insubordination. And this does not include the fates of so many prototypes unable to achieve our high expectations. Too dark and horrible to describe, these pedals' demise would make every fan of guitar effects wince, shudder and cross themselves. But all was not lost-- the Echo 600, soon followed by the Echo 300, met the highest standards for our hand-built pedals and are considered by many to be the best examples of new/old analog delay technology. Merrily constructing pedals, enjoying interactions with dealers and customers, abusing prototypes and ourselves, time marched ceaselessly in it's inevitability. The duo moved the operation from Texas to Portland Oregon and pedals, modules as well as the Malekko team has grown exponentially since! Our 12th year promises more visionary designs including Eurorack modules, tabletop synths and effects pedals. Recognized the world over, we are thankful for the praise MALEKKO receives from players and dealers for our products and customer support. U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Region Five History Project Interview with: Paul Barker Interviewed by: Phil Aune Location: Spokane, Washington Date: sometime in 2006 Transcribed by: Mim Eisenberg/WordCraft; October 2006 [Begin CD Track 18. (no Tracks 1-17)] PHIL AUNE: This is Track 18. This is the Paul Barker interview. This is Phil Aune [pronounced AW-nee]. The last name is spelled A-u-n-e. And I’m interviewing former regional forester Paul Barker. Paul, I’d like to start out the interview. Please tell us briefly what got you interested in forestry as a young man. PAUL BARKER: My interest in forestry began in scouting and was amplified through a biology class in high school. When I was in the ninth grade, my second grade teacher asked if I would help her by taking some tests. She was working on her master’s degree in counseling. The test results indicated I had a high aptitude for forestry. I was accepted at the University of Idaho, College of Forestry and began my professional education the fall of 1953. AUNE: Given that, if you went to University of Idaho, what were your school years like at Idaho, and did you have jobs with the Forest Service in the summertime, or how did that work? BARKER: I started working for the Forest Service right after high school graduation. Full time employees on the ranger district were the District Ranger, Alternate Ranger, Packer, and District Clerk. The district had just sold a couple of timber sales in an effort to salvage trees being killed by the spruce bark beetle.

  • INITIALS C.C. Liner Notes
Chris Connelly : INITIALS C.C. Out-takes, Rarities and Personal Favourites 1982-2002 vol.1 01. Detestimony – Fini Tribe: This was the “A” side of an EP called “Let the Tribe Grow,” written and recorded when the Fini Tribe was going through great musical changes. We had acquired an Ensoniq ‘Mirage’ sampling keyboard, and as was the same for a lot of bands at the time, it changed everything, opened up a lot of doors, and led us into some very uncharted waters. The actual piece was whittled down from a fifteen-minute opus we had written. I remember being in Philip Pinsky’s bedroom one night with John Vick. Philip’s then-roommate, Lindsay, gave us an old quarter-inch reel of tape he had. On it was a beautiful recording of the church bells you hear on the song; we sampled them and came up with the melody. The EP actually did better than any of us had anticipated and became a sort of hit in the Ibiza clubs at the very advent of the acid house/rave phenomenon. We actually went ahead and re-wrote/re- structured the song for the WaxTrax! Records release (“Make it Internal/Detestimony Revisited”) a couple of years later. 02. Mania – Murder Inc.: Certainly what I feel is the most compelling song on the one and only album released by Murder Inc. The band was basically Killing Joke, minus Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke’s singer), plus me, as well as the original drummer, Paul Fergusson, and newer drummer, Martin Atkins. The sessions took place at Pachyderm Studios in rural Minnesota during September of 1991.

The first year of any new business is hell on wheels, (Groanong, creaking, barking dog sound efx, please) and we've seen quite a parade in '87. When I look back over my final comments last year (after nine issues), it sounded as if we had moved mountains.
