Griffin Bike Park Grand Opening Mountain Bike legend, Multiple World Champion, Hall of Fame Inductee Brian Lopes - has had an unprecedented 20 year career as a professional cyclist, he has been labeled “Undisputedly the best all around world class cycling athlete” by USA Today. Having raced BMX for most of his childhood, Brian started his bike racing at the tender age of 4, turning Pro at the age of 17 and competing in the BMX circuit for seven years before channeling his efforts in 1993 to mountain biking. Lope’s first MTB race earned him a name and fifth place. He then went straight on to win a Norba National, and never looked back. He has won over 19 titles in his mountain biking career; Nine National Championship titles, six UCI World Cup wins and four UCI Mountain Bike World Champion titles, first in 2001, then again in 2002, 2005 and most currently in 2007. His winning race resume made the Lopes name one of the most recognizable names in the sport of cycling; known for his flawless style and winning results, he is an inspiration to bikers and action sport enthusiasts around the world. Nominated in 2001 for an ESPY “Action sport Athlete of the Year”, won two NEA (World Extreme Sports Award) for “Mountain Biker of the Year” in 2000 & 2001 and is featured in SONY PlayStation “Downhill Domination” as himself. In 2008 was inducted into the Mountain Bike and BMX Hall of Fame. Beyond the bicycle, in 2005 Brian became a published author when he co-wrote a book with long time friend Lee McCormack titled “Mastering Mountain Biking Skills” which has been printed in 6 different languages and is in its 2nd edition. And in 2013 Brian took on the title of “fitness trainer”, working with Honda/RedBull/Troy Lee’s motocross team athletes: Jessy Nelson, Cole Seely and Shane McElrath. Born Labor Day weekend on September, 6, 1971, Brian grew up in Mission Viejo, California. He currently resides in Laguna Beach, CA with wife Paula and son Maverick. A rain drenched track didn’t stop FUCHS sponsored Franco Scribante from asserting his dominance, winning round 3 of the Supercar Series. Scribante was quick to demonstrate his intentions in the qualifying race, claiming pole position.

Eight male elite BMX riders volunteered for the study. Each rider performed three, 10 second maximal sprints on an Olympic standard indoor BMX track. The riders’ bicycles were fitted with a portable SRM power meter. Each rider performed the three sprints using gear ratios of 41/16, 43/16, 45/16 tooth. The results from the 41/16 and 45/16 gear ratios were compared to the current standard 43/16 gear ratio. Statistically significant differences were found between the gear ratios for peak power (F(2,14) = 6.448; p = 0.010) and peak torque (F(2,14) = 4.777; p = 0.026), but no significant difference was found for time to peak power (F (2,14) = 0.200; p = 0.821).

    Examensarbete i Hållbar Utveckling 48 Motorsport and Sustainability Case Study of MXStar Team’s Environmental Impact Optimization Maria Kravchenko Igor Nosov INSTITUTIONEN FÖR GEOVETENSKAPER Uppsala University Degree Project in Sustainable Development Motorsport and Sustainability Case study of MXStar team’s environmental impact optimization Researchers: Maria Kravchenko, Igor Nosov Supervisor: Magnus Hellqvist Autumn 2011 1 Abstract Given paper discusses motocross as a part of motorsport from the viewpoint of sustainability and considers continuously growing impact of human activity on the environment. The theoretical framework of this paper is based on the concepts which position motorsport in a context of sustainability at both global and team levels within the borders of systems theory. Training and racing activities of the MXStar team based in Uppsala (Sweden) are described in the paper from the environmental perspective. Changing of the team’s technical performance as well as their behavioural models has certain driving and restraining forces that are analyzed in particular in the discussion part of the paper. Recommendations for the MXStar team have been developed in accordance with the results of detailed analysis of the team’s environmental impact. The authors concluded that environmental performance of motocross racing composes from technical and behavioural inputs of each participating team. In order to optimize the environmental impact of the motocross each team member has to be innovative in both perspectives. Keywords: environmental

    CU Cycling New Rider Handbook Cycling at the University of Colorado Boulder has a long history of success. Since 1988, the year of the first Collegiate National Championships, University of Colorado Boulder has produced over 65 individual National Champions and taken home 12 Team Event National titles (Road Team Time Trial and Track Team Pursuit). Additionally, we have won the Overall Team Omnium at 12 National Championships. Many University of Colorado Boulder racers have gone on to the professional ranks after graduation and achieved success at the highest level of the sport. While competition-level at the National Championships is between the elite racers on the team, conference competition is all about team participation with riders at every level contributing to the team's success. The University of Colorado Boulder is a powerhouse in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference, consistently battling cross-state rival Fort Lewis College for top honors. This exciting event will go down in history at the awesome Waukegan BMX track located at Henry Pfau Callahan Park and is expected to draw many spectators and participants. The one full-day event will kick off at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Athletes from all over Illinois will compete for 2007 NBL State points and awards of the day. These events are destined to be exciting for all of its attendees! The NBL Illinois State Qualifier will start Saturday morning with practice immediately after registration. Registration is from 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. New riders can register and race the same day. Saturday’s event will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will continue on throughout the day and into the early evening. Don’t miss out on any of the exciting races! The NBL sanctions exciting local, state and national levels of BMX racing across the country and in Puerto Rico. Pontikos ADVER 3711 23 April 2008 Of Hedgehogs and Plumbers: An Investigation of Marketing Strategies in the American Home Console Industry From rescuing damsels in distress locked away in castles, slaying foul monsters in mythic lands, zooming through loop-de-loops in bizarre environments to realistic simulations of everyday life, the American video game home console industry emerges vibrant as ever. Even more interesting is the ability of such tiny pixels and sound bits to capture American minds and wallets. Through examination of the origin of the industry and the subsequent targeting, pricing, and positioning strategies, a portrait of the lucrative home video game console industry emerges. Although many of the major home console manufacturers over the years share a similar goal of selling home consoles to consumers, most of the corporations began in a completely different industry long before the birth of the gaming business and the subsequent console wars. To illustrate, Nintendo Co., Ltd. initially manufactured playing cards in 1889 “called ‘Hanafuda’ [which were] tenderly hand crafted using the bark from the mulberry and mitsu-mata trees” and later expanded to “love hotels” and “instant rice” (N-Sider Media, “Nintendo”). In addition, Sega Corporation, formerly known as Honolulu-based Standard Games in 1940, “began importing jukeboxes to supply American military bases in Japan…[and] eventually expanded into amusement game imports [with the slogan] ‘service and games’ ” from which their name is taken (Pollack, “Sega”).

Subaru Rally Team USA drivers David Higgins and Dave Mirra head to Los Angeles this week to compete in Summer X Games 17. Higgins and Mirra look to add to the team’s successes at X Games competing in the Rally Car and Rallycross events July 30th and 31st respectively. Each will drive a 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI modified for Rallycross with an excess of 550 horsepower Boxer engine and Symmetrical All Wheel Drive. For 2011, Higgins won the Rally America Championship after three overall wins and two second place finishes of the six events of the series. In June, he smashed the 13-year course record at the Mt. Washington Hill Climb and placed second at the A Main final of the Global Rallycross series at Pikes Peak.
