To a rally driver it’s an all out, day or night race on an unknown dirt road, trying by sheer concentration to blend a high-strung, production based race car and the road into an unbeatable stage time. To a co-driver it’s the thrill of the world’s greatest amusement park ride, combined with the challenge of performing with great mental accuracy under the most physi- cally demanding conditions. For the spectator it’s a view of the most exciting and demanding of motor sports. Around the world, rallying is wildly popular, attracting huge crowds that line the roads at every event in the FIA World Rally Championship. In a performance rally, each team consists of a driver and co-driver (navigator). The cars start at one or two-minute intervals and race at top speed against the clock over competition stages. -

Antoine L'estage North American Rally Champion After This Weekend ?
Press Release For Immediate Publication Rocky Mountain Rally this weekend ... Antoine L'Estage North American Rally Champion After This Weekend ? Montréal (Québec), October 30, 2013.- Quebec driver Antoine L’Estage (of St-Jean-sur- Richelieu) will contest this weekend’s Rocky Mountain Rally, in British Columbia, an event counting towards both the Canadian and North American Rally Championships. It is here that the Rockstar team driver will be attempting to earn his sixth event victory as well as capture the North American title. Antoine L'Estage has always had a lot of success at the Rocky Mountain Rally, back when the rally was held near Calgary, Alberta. This year the rally will introduce an entirely new location, near Invermere, British Columbia : « We’re starting from scratch but everyone is in the same boat » explains the Quebec driver, who adds : « I adore contesting new events, I’m really confident but we won’t be taking any strategic risks, we’re bringing with us the entire lineup of Yokohama tires for snow, ice, mud, and gravel in order to be prepared for all weather conditions, which is the big question mark for this rally ». Antoine L'Estage will be co-driven by Welshman Craig Parry at the Rocky Mountain Rally. This team claimed the victory at the previous round of the Canadian Rally Championship earlier this month, the Pacific Forest Rally. The win was an important one as it enabled Antoine to close the gap even more in the fight for the Canadian drivers’ title as well as put Mitsubishi in the lead for the manufacturers’ title. -

Eight male elite BMX riders volunteered for the study. Each rider performed three, 10 second maximal sprints on an Olympic standard indoor BMX track. The riders’ bicycles were fitted with a portable SRM power meter. Each rider performed the three sprints using gear ratios of 41/16, 43/16, 45/16 tooth. The results from the 41/16 and 45/16 gear ratios were compared to the current standard 43/16 gear ratio. Statistically significant differences were found between the gear ratios for peak power (F(2,14) = 6.448; p = 0.010) and peak torque (F(2,14) = 4.777; p = 0.026), but no significant difference was found for time to peak power (F (2,14) = 0.200; p = 0.821). -

Examensarbete i Hållbar Utveckling 48 Motorsport and Sustainability Case Study of MXStar Team’s Environmental Impact Optimization Maria Kravchenko Igor Nosov INSTITUTIONEN FÖR GEOVETENSKAPER Uppsala University Degree Project in Sustainable Development Motorsport and Sustainability Case study of MXStar team’s environmental impact optimization Researchers: Maria Kravchenko, Igor Nosov Supervisor: Magnus Hellqvist Autumn 2011 1 Abstract Given paper discusses motocross as a part of motorsport from the viewpoint of sustainability and considers continuously growing impact of human activity on the environment. The theoretical framework of this paper is based on the concepts which position motorsport in a context of sustainability at both global and team levels within the borders of systems theory. Training and racing activities of the MXStar team based in Uppsala (Sweden) are described in the paper from the environmental perspective. Changing of the team’s technical performance as well as their behavioural models has certain driving and restraining forces that are analyzed in particular in the discussion part of the paper. Recommendations for the MXStar team have been developed in accordance with the results of detailed analysis of the team’s environmental impact. The authors concluded that environmental performance of motocross racing composes from technical and behavioural inputs of each participating team. In order to optimize the environmental impact of the motocross each team member has to be innovative in both perspectives. Keywords: environmental -
