    The World Bank THE STATE STATISTICAL COMMITTEE OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN Foreword This atlas is the culmination of a significant effort to deliver a snapshot of the socio-economic situation in Tajikistan at the time of the 2000 Census. The atlas arose out of a need to gain a better understanding among Government Agencies and NGOs about the spatial distribution of poverty, through its many indicators, and also to provide this information at a lower level of geographical disaggregation than was previously available, that is, the Jamoat. Poverty is multi-dimensional and as such the atlas includes information on a range of different indicators of the well- being of the population, including education, health, economic activity and the environment. A unique feature of the atlas is the inclusion of estimates of material poverty at the Jamoat level. The derivation of these estimates involves combining the detailed information on household expenditures available from the 2003 Tajikistan Living Standards Survey and the national coverage of the 2000 Census using statistical modelling. This is the first time that this complex statistical methodology has been applied in Central Asia and Tajikistan is proud to be at the forefront of such innovation. It is hoped that the atlas will be of use to all those interested in poverty reduction and improving the lives of the Tajik population.     2019 Assessment of business planning in primary care facilities in Tajikistan Assessment of business planning in primary care facilities in Tajikistan Abstract This report presents the main findings and recommendations of the assessment of the business planning implementation in primary health care facilities in Tajikistan. Since it was introduced in 2005, business planning in Tajikistan has grown into a nationally adopted mechanism for strengthening district and primary health care facility management. In 2019, an assessment took place to evaluate the results of the business planning implementation. The findings revealed that business planning was regarded as an efective managerial tool that improved the health of and relationships with the populations served. The most important outcome of business planning is the reported improved responsiveness to the health needs of the population, especially more vulnerable groups. Implementation of business planning has increased the transparency of the health facilities’ activities and resources and has strengthened the primary care management capacity. Nevertheless, the health system has challenges afecting the success of business planning that need to be addressed for its further success and sustainability in the country.     DREF operation n° MDRTJ010 Tajikistan: Floods GLIDE n° FL-2010-000087-TJK 3 December 2010 and mudslides The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) is a source of un-earmarked money created by the Federation in 1985 to ensure that immediate financial support is available for Red Cross Red Crescent response to emergencies. The DREF is a vital part of the International Federation’s disaster response system and increases the ability of National Societies to respond to disasters. Summary: CHF 184,879 (USD 167,613 or EUR 129,833) was allocated from the International Federation’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) on 12 May to support the National Society in delivering immediate assistance to some 200 families (1,200 people) and to replenish emergency stocks. As a result of heavy rainfall on 7 May 2010, floods and mudslides hit the southern part of Tajikistan affecting 10 districts of the country (Vose, Muminabad, Temurmalik, Baljuvon and Shurabad districts and Kulyab town of Kulyab region, as well as Nurek, J. Rumi, Yovon and Jilikul districts of Kurgan-tube region). According to the assessment conducted by the Committee of Emergency Situations (CoES), Rapid The Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan conducting Emergency Assessment and Coordination Team beneficiary satisfaction survey in Kulyab town. RCST (REACT) partners and the Tajikistan Red Crescent regional branches, the number of houses affected by the disaster in Khatlon province is 1,068 houses (or 6,408 people), out of which 388 houses were totally destroyed and 680 houses damaged and uninhabitable. The Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST) assisted 200 households (1200 people) through the distribution of basic non-food items to help people to cope with the consequences of the disaster.

    TAJIKISTAN 2016 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary The constitution provides for the right, individually or jointly with others, to adhere to any religion or to no religion, and to participate in religious customs and ceremonies. The constitution says religious organizations shall be separate from the state and “shall not interfere in state affairs.” An amendment to the constitution, passed in May, bans political parties based on religion. The law restricts Islamic prayer to specific locations, regulates the registration and location of mosques, and prohibits persons under 18 from participating in public religious activities. The government Committee on Religious Affairs (CRA) controls all aspects of religious life, including approving registration of religious associations, construction of houses of worship, participation of children in religious education, and the dissemination of religious literature. The government continued to take measures to prevent individuals from joining or participating in what it considered to be “extremist” organizations, arresting or detaining over 100 persons, primarily for membership in banned religious groups, including Salafis, the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Ansarrullah, Jindullah, ISIS, and Hizb ut-Tahrir. Officials continued to prevent minority religious groups, including Jehovah’s Witnesses, from registering their organizations. Domestic and international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) stated both registered and unregistered religious organizations continued to be subject to police raids, surveillance, and forced closures. Government bodies continued to harass Jehovah’s Witnesses. Hanafi Sunni mosques continued to enforce a religious edict prohibiting women from praying at mosques. The government continued to install surveillance cameras and metal detectors in mosques for the stated purpose of monitoring potential “religious extremist” activity.

    Rapid Emergency Assessment & Coordination Team | Tajikistan REACT Overview of Disasters in Tajikistan1 April– May 2014 Heavy rains triggered flash floods and mudslides in several districts of Tajikistan between April 11 to May 18, 2014. A reported total of 20 people died due to the floods. Significant damage was caused to households (damage to livelihoods and buildings), infrastructure and livestock. National and local authorities mobilized aid for the affected population with additional assistance from international humanitarian organizations. Details on losses and damage by location are provided below. Finalized damage assessments have not been completed for all locations and estimates of monetary losses are not currently available. Khatlon Province Shuroobod District, April 12-13, 2014: Heavy rains triggered flash floods and mudslide in Sarichashma Jamoat, Shuroobod District. A reported 111 households were affected, with 13 deaths. Significant damage was observed in local infrastructure with a reported 268 head of livestock killed, 188 hectares of productive land damaged and 5.5 kilometres of roads affected. Vose District, April 12-13, 2014: Heavy rains triggered flash floods in Tugarak Jamoat, Vose District. A reported 276 households were affected. Reports indicate that there was one death and a loss of 128 head of livestock. Reported damage to infrastructure include 2 kilometres of road and 78 hectares of agriculture land. Khamadoni District, April 12-13, 2014: Flash floods affected 70 households in Chubek Jamoat, Khamadoni District. One person was killed by the floods. The floods damage 115 hectares of agriculture land. More than 400 head of livestock were reported killed. A high school and policlinic and 5 kilometres of road were damaged.
