It’s not only one of this city’s largest happenings, it’s a major event on the worldwide vintage racing calendar. The charities that the PVGP supports add to our drive and passion, and over the years, we’ve been able to donate more than five million dollars to the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School. What began as a single day in Schenley Park -- Labor Day, 1983 – has become a 10-day festival of car shows, parades, a road rally, a countryside tour, a black tie gala, a jet center party, and two full weekends of vintage car racing. The logistics are challenging, but our invaluable partnership with the City of Pittsburgh has enabled us to present the nation’s only vintage race run on city streets. The enthusiasm of our car show participants, race drivers, and volunteer workers guarantee that visitors, spectators, and race fans alike will experience an event unequalled in the nation. Our success is fueled by our friends at the Greater Pittsburgh Automobile Dealers Foundation. Their sponsorship over the past four years has helped drive our greatest growth. Yet, right behind them are 75 generous sponsors and partners who are also an integral part of our success. Please consider making a donation at one of our donation stations. If you’d like to offer even more, consider joining us as a volunteer. Remember, it’s all about giving back to our community while having fun and mixing and meeting with people of all ages who share our passion for great motor vehicles. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Daniel E. • 1:18 CMC Jaguar C-Type Review
1:18 CMC Jaguar C-Type Review The year was 1935 when the Jaguar brand first leapt out of the factory gates. Founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company by William Lyons and William Walmsley, both were motorcycle enthusiasts and the company manufactured motorcycle sidecars and automobile bodies. Walmsley was rather happy with the company’s modest success and saw little point in taking risks by expanding the firm. He chose to spend more and more time plus company money on making parts for his model railway instead. Lyons bought him out with a public stock offering and became the sole Managing Director in 1935. The company was then renamed to S.S. Cars Limited. After Walmsley had left, the first car to bear the Jaguar name was the SS Jaguar 2.5l Saloon released in September 1935. The 2.5l Saloon was one of the most distinctive and beautiful cars of the pre-war era, with its sleek, low-slung design. It needed a new name to reflect these qualities, one that summed up its feline grace and elegance with such a finely-tuned balance of power and agility. The big cat was chosen, and the SS Jaguar perfectly justified that analogy. A matching open-top two-seater called the SS Jaguar 100 (named 100 to represent the theoretical top speed of 100mph) with a 3.5 litre engine was also available. www.themodelcarcritic.com | 1 1:18 CMC Jaguar C-Type Review 1935 SS Jaguar 2.5l Saloon www.themodelcarcritic.com | 2 1:18 CMC Jaguar C-Type Review 1936 SS Jaguar 100 On 23rd March 1945, the shareholders took the initiative to rename the company to Jaguar Cars Limited due to the notoriety of the SS of Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

  • The Pittsburgh I Remember Is a City That Will Use This Act of Hate to Build a Place of Love and Hope
THE PITTSBURGH I REMEMBER IS A CITY THAT WILL USE THIS ACT OF HATE TO BUILD A PLACE OF LOVE AND HOPE By Ron Sirak • @ronsirak October 28, 2018 I remember the old Pittsburgh, the grimy city of steel mills and pollution, a lunch pail-carrying kind of place where the sweat of the blast furnaces was washed away with a shot and a beer. I remember a fiercely proud area that viewed Eastern Pennsylvania as another state, perhaps even another country. Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania, even has its own language. Phrases such as: “What yinz doin’ after you red up the house?” clang on the outsider’s ear like the wail of a car alarm at 3 in the morning. My mother, who worked as a welder from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and then as a cleaning woman in an office from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., said of Eastern Pa.: “They’re from the anthracite region; we’re from the bituminous region,” as if that was a stamp you’d get on your passport. My father drove a ladle crane in about every mill in Western Pa. and Eastern Ohio as the steel industry was dying. United Engineering. Mesta Machine. Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Sharon Steel, Jones & Laughlin and finally Pennsylvania Engineering in our hometown of New Castle, 50 miles from Pittsburgh. That’s where he was working when he died at the age of 45, the life sucked from him by relentlessly hard work. When I was a kid the Interstate hadn’t been built yet and the drive to Pittsburgh to see a Pirates game at Forbes Field was an arduous affair, following a windy road that that traced the river.
