th 40 Annual NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA EMMY® AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
th The 40 Annual Northern California Area EMMY® Award Nominations were announced th Thursday, May 5 at noon on the internet. The EMMY® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). San Francisco/ Northern California is one of the twenty chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of media companies and individuals from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries were aired during the 2010 calendar year.
This year 703 entries were received in 59 categories. English and Spanish language entries were judged and scored separately. A minimum of five peer judges from other NATAS chapters scored each entry on a scale from 1 to 10 on Content, Creativity and Execution. (Craft categories were judged on Creativity and Execution only). The total score is divided by the number of judges. The mean score is sorted from highest to lowest in each category. The Chapter Awards Committee looks at blind scores (not knowing the category) and decides on the cut off number for nominations and recipients. The results are tabulated by our accounting firm Spalding and Company.
The highest number of nominations was eight awarded to Christian Anguiano of KUVS Univision 19. He was followed by Santiago Lucero also with Univision 19 with six and John Gregg of KTEH 54, San Jose. Five individuals received five nominations. Abby Sterling and Anna Werner of KPIX CBS 5; Anzio Williams and James Stimson of KCRA 3, Sacramento, and Steven Kern of KTEH 54, San Jose. The Emmy® is awarded to individuals but everyone is interested in the station count. Congratulations to San Francisco’s KPIX CBS 5 for receiving 22 nominations and KUVS Univision 19 in Sacramento received 21 in the Spanish contest. A total of 594 Emmy® award nominations to 390 individuals.
The Emmy® statuettes will be presented at the Regency Center, San Francisco on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Tickets for the event are $125. Television Academy members receive a $10 discount, with an additional $10 discount if tickets purchased by May 31st. The no-host reception starts at 6 p.m. in the Rotunda and Parlor. Dinner and the awards presentation take place in the Grand Ballroom at 7 p.m. This year balcony seating has been added for those who want to watch the presentation without the dinner. A limit of 100 tickets are available at $45, with members receiving a $5 discount and a $5 discount if purchased before Mary 31st.
