We hope this guide will be helpful and we’ll wish you a very good staying. An overview:

At your arrival at Torino airport, a taxi will drive you to your accommodation: Campus San Paolo.

AIRPORT transfer:

The hotel check in is expected at 14.30. It will be possible for you to leave your luggage in a deposit room.

The reservation is registered as UNICA -Network of Universities.

Considering that you’ll arrive on Sunday, you’ll have spare time to spend in the city.

The Programme starts each day at 9:30 a.m. at the Politecnico (Meeting point: Corso Castelfidardo, 39 – 3rd floor – Doctoral School – phone reference: +39 011 090 6095). We recommend you to arrive at 9:15 a.m. in order to start the scheduled activities on time.

On the 1st day a colleague of the Politecnico will come to pick you up at the Campus at 8:45 a.m.; the meeting point will be in the Campus San Paolo Hall. In case of emergence, this is his mobile phone: Marco CAVANA +39 3282709381

The attendance is compulsory and you will be required to sing a signature sheet every day.

You will also be required to produce a daily report of the activities carried out, on your key learnings and how you’d like to implement these learnings in your home Institutions. The reports will be later published on the internal page of UZ DOC 2.0 website.

Timetables:

Monday – Tuesday – Thursday: 9:30 a.m. – 17 p.m.

Wednesday: 9:30 a.m. – 14:00 p.m.: free time in the afternoon. A colleague of the Politecnico will come with you in the city centre for a visit of the main points of interests and you will be provided with maps and material about the main attractions.

Friday: 9:30 a.m. – 15:30 p.m.

2. How to commute between Campus SanPaolo and Politecnico

Option 1: bus 58 To go:

Bus 58 is passing every 8 min from 7.00 to 12.00 AM

Total duration: 17 min

To come back:

Bus 58 is passing every 8 min from 4.00 to 8.00 PM

Total duration: 19 min Option 2: bus 58/ To go:

Bus 58/ is passing every 8 min from 7.00 to 12.00 AM

Total duration: 18 min

Alternatively: by foot

Walking from Campus SanPaolo until Politecnico will take you 26 min (2.1 km).

3. Where to buy your tickets

Generally, you can purchase your tickets from tobacconist’s, most of newsagent’s and every metro stations. There is also the possibility to buy public transport tickets inside the Politecnico. Be aware of the fact that it is not possible to buy a ticket on the bus/tram or metro.

The single journey ticket costs 1,50 € and it’s valid for 90 min.

Within those 90 min you can jump on and off any bus or tram you need while you can only use the metro once.

Since you will use at least twice a day the public transport, we advise you to buy the 15-journey ticket already at the airport for 17,50 €, so to save some money.

How does it work?

Both single journey and 15-journey tickets needs to be validated when you are on the bus/tram or to get your access to the metro.

In case of 15-journey ticket:

On buses and trams: it is sufficient to pass the card on the yellow area of the machine here depicted. It will emit a sound and a green light will be on once correctly validated.

The metro: Similarly to get access to the metro: the picture below shows the validation process to pass through the metro station gates.

4. How to get to the city center

Piazza Castello (red dot on the map) is the very center of the city.

You can get there by the following combination:

: tram 15 (stopping exactly in the main square);

: Bus 58 or 58/ (final stop Bertola few steps away from the main square);

You can also get to Piazza Castello walking from the other point of interests through the main shopping roads (15 min walk) so to also enjoy the sightseeing of the city.

Bus 33 (Porta Nuova stop) and then walking down through via Roma; tram 16 (Piazza Vittorio stop) and then walking up through via ; tram 15 (Piazza Vittorio stop) and then walking up through via Po;

Turin has also a very charming park, called “Parco del Valentino”, where also the original Schools of Engineers used to be, in a very elegant castle called “Castello del Valentino”.

Banks and Currency Exchange Banks are commonly open from 8.40 to 13.30 and from 14.40 to 16.00, Monday to Friday. The Italian currency is the EURO. The Euro is available in banknotes and coins. The exchange rate is set on a daily basis.

ATM / Cash Machines Cash machines are located almost at every bank around the city. Credit cards are generally accepted in most restaurants, hotels and shops.

Shops & Museums Shops are generally open 9:00 –12:30 and 15:30 –19:30, closed on Sunday In the city center many shops are open continuously 9:30 – 19:30 Museum closing day is generally on Monday.
