THE HISTORY OF WHITE PEOPLE IN AMERICA 1 GBH WORLD, in partnership with PBS Independent Lens, 4presents The History of White People in America, an animated musical series about America’s reckoning with race and injus- tice. The shorts take viewers on a journey through American history, starting in the 17th century, to understand how the idea of “white- ness” helped shape the nation’s history, with wide-ranging ramifications on social class and life experiences that exist to this day.

MISSISSIPPI JUSTICE 2 A new short film from GBH’s AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, Mississippi Justice tells the story of the 1964 execution of three civil rights workers—James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman—carried out by the Ku Klux Klan and enabled by police collusion and state government. Narrated by NPR’s Michel Martin, it features legendary civil rights movement activist Dave Dennis, MacArthur Genius Grant-winning journalist Jerry Mitchell and Harvard Law Professor Randall Kennedy.

STORIES FROM THE STAGE PODCAST 3 Powerful stories can bring people together. The new Stories from the Stage podcast, launching Tue, 12/1, features ordinary people telling extraordinary real stories of love and loss, everyday adventures, shocking revelations and unexpected triumphs that depict what we all have in common. Hear the most memorable stories and, in some cases, find out what happened after storytellers left the stage.

TO PREPARE STEP 1 Mix the vinegar, sugar and salt together in a small saucepan. Let simmer over high heat until the sauce is reduced by half. Remove from the heat, add the garlic slices, and let the marinade cool. Stir in the olive oil. Slice all of the squash in half lengthwise, and scrape out all the seeds. You don’t need to peel the delicata or honey nut, but peel the ridges from the acorn squash. Cut crosswise into inch-thick half-rounds.

STEP 2 Pour a thin layer of vegetable oil into a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil sizzles on contact, add the sage leaves, and fry until just crisp for about two to three seconds. Remove to paper towels to drain, and season with salt.

STEP 3 Add a layer of squash to the pan, spaced slightly apart. Fry for about three minutes on the first side, then flip the slices over. Fry on the second side another two to three minutes, until the slices are easy to pierce with the tines of a fork, crisped on the surface and caramel- The cooler months of the year are the ized on the edges.
