(ASI) Events presents comedian Daniel Tosh Monday, March 1, at 8 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium. Tosh’s casual style and sharp material are greatly enjoyed by his audiences, young and old alike, said Brian Bosch, student supervisor of special events. He is one of the most popular and successful college acts, performing at more than 100 campuses each year. Tosh has made numerous television appearances including Comedy Central’s “Friday Night Standup” and “Premium Blend,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Show with David Letterman” and MTV’s “Punk’d.” “We know the students crave big comedians, so we are excited to bring someone with as much television experience as Tosh,” said Bosch. Tosh has also performed at some of the most significant comedy festivals around the world. He participated in the prestigious Just for Laughs International Comedy Festival in Montreal in 1998 and was invited to return two years later. Vitanza ABSTRACT Ironic Feminism: Rhetorical Critique in Satirical News aims to offer another perspective and style toward feminist theories of public discourse through satire. This study develops a model of ironist feminism to approach limitations of hegemonic language for women and minorities in U.S. public discourse. The model is built upon irony as a mode of perspective, and as a function in language, to ferret out and address political norms in dominant language. In comedy and satire, irony subverts dominant language for a laugh; concepts of irony and its relation to comedy situate the study’s focus on rhetorical contributions in joke telling. How are jokes crafted? Who crafts them? What is the motivation behind crafting them? To expand upon these questions, the study analyzes examples of a select group of popular U.S.

    The Boston Red Sox Thursday, November 1, 2018 * The Boston Globe Why the Red Sox feel good about David Price going forward Alex Speier David Price came to Fenway Park ready to celebrate the Red Sox’ 2018 championship season, and hoping to do it again sometime in the next four years. Price had the right to opt out of the final four years and $127 million of the record-setting seven-year, $217 million deal he signed with the Red Sox after the 2015 season by midnight on Wednesday. However, as he basked in the afterglow of his first World Series title, the lefthander said that he would not leave the Red Sox. “I’m opting in. I’m not going anywhere. I want to win here. We did that this year and I want to do it again,” Price said minutes before boarding a duck boat. “There wasn’t any reconsideration on my part ever. I came here to win. We did that this year and that was very special, and now I want to do it again.” Red Sox principal owner (and Globe owner) John Henry was pleased with the decision. While industry opinion was nearly unanimous that Price wouldn’t have been able to make as much money on the open market as he will over the duration of his Red Sox deal, Henry said that the team wasn’t certain of the pitcher’s decision until he informed the club. “[Boston is] a tough town in many ways. I think [the opt-out] was there because it gave him an opportunity to see if he wanted to spend [all seven years here],” said Henry.

    ‘CHRISTMAS NEXT DOOR’ Cast Bios JESSE METCALFE (Eric Redford) – Hollywood leading man Jesse Metcalfe currently stars as Trace Riley in Hallmark Channel’s “Chesapeake Shores.” Before that, Metcalfe was seen as Christopher Ewing in the popular TNT series, “Dallas.” Born in California and raised in Waterford, Connecticut, Metcalfe played in several basketball leagues in his youth. Studying acting at New York University’s famed Tisch School of the Arts, his first role on television was starring in the NBC series “Passions” as Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald. After a successful five-year stint on the show, Metcalfe took a brief break from it to pursue other opportunities. He returned to make his final appearance in January 2005. Metcalfe went on to star as the teen gardener John Rowland on ABC’s hugely popular “Desperate Housewives.” His storyline of an illicit affair with Eva Longoria’s character, a married housewife, garnered fan and media attention. He won a Choice TV Breakout Performance Male at the Teen Choice Awards for his role on the show, as well as a nomination for Choice TV Actor in a Comedy and a SAG Award for Best Television Ensemble. During this time, Metcalfe also played the title character in the 20th Century Fox black comedy film John Tucker Must Die. The film, which also starred Sophia Bush, Brittany Snow and Ashanti, followed three friends who set out to break the heart of a serial cheater by setting him up with the new girl in town. Metcalfe’s other film roles include God’s Not Dead 2, Insanitarium, The Other End of the Line, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (with Michael Douglas) and The Tortured.
