14 JUNE 2013 JUNE 2013 15 A motorcycle is many things. In its basic form it’s simple transportation. A way to get a human between two different points. But as we all know, it’s more than that. It’s an expression of freedom, a way to relax, or an outlook on life. And it’s also a work of art.

Every bike is unique. Yeah, stock rides, fresh out a part or two. Wardrobes can be pretty off the assembly line are identical. “Besides Sons of Anarchy what other TV and film projects have you done?” I ask.

Sean replied, “Let’s see, off the top of my head, I’ve appeared in a couple of films - Four Christmas’ and The Obsession come to mind. In regards to TV, I’ve appeared on Community, NCIS LA and several commercials. I’ve also done a few musicals.”

“So Sean, I know you love to ride motorcycles, what do you ride?” I asked.

“I have 3 bikes. I have a ’97 Softail I named ‘Elvis’, I have an ’05 Dyna that I ride on Sons of Anarchy and I have a ’02 Texas Ironhorse Chopper with an S&S 107 cubic-inch motor named Black Betty” he replied.

I asked Sean “What made you want to get involved in Children’s Ride 18?”

He replied, “I’m all about charity and giving back. I’ve been clean and sober for 9 years and I’ve been with my fiancé Christine Devine who’s a LA news anchor for 8 years. We’re both involved with several charities; we do Harley rides, golf tournaments and public speaking. For me getting clean and sober woke me up, it changed me, it made me want to give back. I am thrilled to be involved in this ride for Children’s Hospital. I have supported Children’s Hospital in the past when I attended a charity golf tournament they did a few years ago. No question about it, their Uncompensated Care Program is and has been desperately needed by so many families, year after year, who have a sick or injured child at the hospital.”

Be sure to look for Sean on Sunday. He’ll be leading the ride from Downtown H-D to the Enumclaw Expo Center. Registration, check in and staging will start at Downtown H-D in Renton at 8am. The official ride will begin with kickstands up at 10am. Bikes should arrive at the Expo Center around 11am.

That’s where the event will kick into high gear! It all starts with a catered BBQ lunch, a beer garden, live music by Magic Bus and Spike O’Neill will be emceeing! There will be vendors, a custom and vintage motorcycle show, a performance by the Seattle Cossacks and an awards ceremony!

* On Saturday, the 30th (The night before the Ride), Destination H-D in Tacoma will be hosting the Children’s Ride Auction Party! Come enjoy this festive evening with hosted wine and beer, hors d’oeuvres and dessert. There will be live and silent auctions with Spike O’Neill as the auctioneer! This year’s auction bike is a 2013 H-D touring model with 103 ci engine and six speed transmission donated by Downtown H-D and Destination H-D. The extremely talented and longtime Children’s Ride supporter, Keith Wong and his crew of Zacky’s Custom Rods are donating $5000 in labor and paint to customize the winning bidder’s new bike!

The Quick Throttle Staff looks forward to attending, supporting and seeing our readers on Sunday, June 30th for Children’s Ride 18. Remember, one day it could be your family member or friend who needs assistance from the Uncompensated Care Program because their child is at Children’s Hospital’s receiving some of the best care in our nation.

20 JUNE 2013 JUNE 2013 21 CALENDAR LISTINGS: In the very best interests of both riders and event organizers I need to broach a very touchy subject regarding ride and event calendars in general and ours in particular. Over the past few weeks I have gotten a few calls from potential listees complaining that they did not see their event or ride in our calendar. When I asked when they sent it in etc. in order to give them a better answer I was told that it was never directly submitted to us but was sent in to some other website that lists rides and events on line. They assumed that we, like many others simply surfed the net and copied (plagiarized) events and added them to our calendar and thus notifying one was notifying all. They were shocked when they were told that we never have nor never will borrow, take, abscond or steal someone else’s listing. In fact we consider that to be ethically incorrect and bad business as well. We know it goes on, and we know who it goes on with, but we along with Thunder Press don’t do it and never have. We understand that there are some who are lazy or ethically challenged who routinely do business this way. We don’t. Sending it in directly to us also insures 100% accuracy. As our calendar header says “If you don’t see your event listed here it’s because you didn’t send it in to us”. If you want your event listed in QT then it must be sent directly to us either at our NW e-mail or thru our national website. Nuff said.

ABATE SPRING OPENER: June 13th-16th. This annual 4 day ABATE of Washington “Thunder in the Cascades” campout party at the beautiful Silver Ridge Ranch in Easton, WA is a must-do event. ABATE Spring Opener is open to all riders 21 & over. It includes camping, several bands, a bike show, bike games, tatt contest, scavenger hunt, vendors and more. You can’t beat the gate price either - $40 ABATE members/$45 non-members. Quick Throttle will be there having fun and covering the event.

CHILDREN’S RIDE 18: It’s just around the corner – at 6pm on Saturday June 29th, Destination H-D will be hosting the 18th Annual Children’s Ride Dinner Auction Party. The following day, Sunday, June 30th is the actual Ride and we hope a great many of you will join us and meet up at Downtown H-D in Renton bright and early for a fun, escorted ride to the Enumclaw Expo Center. This year’s ride will be led by one of the cast from the Son’s of Anarchy TV show and will also feature our old friend Spike O’Neill. We will be there as well and we hope to see as many of you as possible. Remember it’s not just a ride, it’s a ride to help sick or injured children get the care they need even if their families can’t afford it. Is there a better reason to ride?

COMING EVENTS: This month begins a fast and furious 4 month binge of great rides, events and rallies. The long range forecast says we are in for a warmer, dryer summer and lots of great riding weather. So if you have been dragging your feet NOW is the time to get your scoot into tip top shape at one of our advertiser’s shops (shameless plug intended), top off your tank and join us along with thousands of other riders and make this season THE season to remember. Ride safe, ride smart, ride alert but RIDE!

It was a beautiful hot desert day in Tucson. The temp was 112* and the pavement was the consistency of rhino snot. Hot, sticky & dangerous to touch. My day had consisted of chores and I was feeling like the pavement looked. One of my riding buddies had stopped by earlier and he was giving me a hard time about not going riding with him. “Aw come on bro,” he whined to me while I was moving some rocks. “Let’s run up to the Bandit and down a coupla brews. It’s too hot to be doing all this hard work.” I looked at him with a disgusted expression and I told him “Rick, you know I gotta do this. Maybe I’ll catch up with you later.” We shook hands and he left. As I worked in my yard, I thought about him in a cool bar, cold brew in hand and laughing at me. So, I went to the fridge and capped a cold one before returning to the sweltering heat of my self-imposed captivity. Four hours and six beers later I had accomplished the basics and felt that I had earned a break from the heat. I went in the house, stepped into a cool shower and when I emerged from the rain-locker, I felt much better. I went to the fridge to get another brew and remembered I only had one left. “Crap! Oh well, looks like a beer-run is in order. Probably should pickup a pint too, while I’m there.” I went into the bedroom to get dressed for the ride to the store. It was only 8 or 10 blocks down the street and shouldn’t take but a couple of minutes. As I stood there looking at a pair of jeans, boots and down tight.
