• One of 13 Senate Democrats who voted for Fast Track Authority (FTA) for TPP negotiations in 2015 • Never took a formal position on the deal before the VP nomination, praising the “upgrades” on labor, environmental and intellectual property protections while expressing concern over the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) provision • Expressed opposition to the deal after being chosen as Clinton’s running mate, citing concerns over its Tim Kaine effect on wages and national security

• As Governor, urged Indiana members of Congress to support the TPP and FTA • Voted YES on all trade deals introduced in Congress during his time as Representative for Indiana • Expressed skepticism of the TPP after VP nomination, comparing the deal’s complexities to those of Obamacare and advocating for bilateral trade deals instead
