Beverage-List-Jan-2019.Pdf About Us Bloody Mary’s is named after Queen Mary I of England, who is more eloquently known as Bloody Mary following her violent reign and burning of over 280 Protestant martyrs at the steak (or do we mean stake). Many such martyrs are remembered in the names of Christchurch streets and squares, Bishop Hugh Latimer included, his life finalised in a rather fiery affair leaving him somewhat...... well over-done. Forever honoured in the name of Latimer Square the Bishop has been reunited with the Queen in the form of Bloody Mary’s Bar-Lounge-Grill, proving to be a far more complimentary partnership where everything is instead done to perfection - cocktails at the Bar, whisky in the Library and dining at the Grill. The grill menu reflects the primal influence of nature and uses the highly seasonal ingredients to create uncomplicated and approachable cuisine. Bloody Mary’s puts emphasis on ensuring we only use meat we can identify the breed of and farm sourced from, often sourced locally within Canterbury. To complement our menu see enclosed Mary’s extensive and impressive wine list. The list has a strong focus on New Zealand wines, featuring a number of South Island Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc options. Given our penchant for steak, we know all too well it’s hard to go past a big bold red so there are a few varietals from Australia, California and France. At Mary’s we also love our Champagne and have wide selection of by the glass and bottle options. The cocktail list favours the inventive over the classic, with adaptations to the namesake Bloody Mary and a pleasingly large range of spirits, sherry and port; this inspires retiring to Hugh’s Whisky Library for contemplation over a favourite tipple. Containing very few books, the library concentrates on a collection of whiskies with décor to compliment, fashioning a luxurious gentleman’s club. This sexy enclave is the perfect setting for a celebration as is the slightly larger Private Dining Room. For a private affair, you can reserve either and have your very own piece of Mary’s abode. Mary’s House Rules Best manners and restraint are expected at all times. Should you have had too much to drink, service will be discontinued and you may be asked to collect your hat and coat -- We are happy to arrange a carriage for you to your desired destination -- Leave your days woes at the door with your hat and coat. We reserve the right to refuse entry at any time -- Gentlemen, do not approach ladies, if you are lucky enough to have one approach you, treat her as the lady she is -- If you are lucky enough to have youth on your side please don’t be offended when we ask to check your identification -- Fighting, talks of fighting and play fighting will not be tolerated. A copy of available dueling times can be collected from the bartender -- The fundamental rules are the same as that of a private residence. Feet do not belong on furniture; cigarette ash belongs in ash trays. The master of the house is always right. No ifs, buts or maybes -- Our dress code is neat and tidy at all times Mary’s Signatures Bloody Mary 17 chilli infused vodka, tomato juice, tabasco, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, black pepper Bloody Red Snapper 17 rutte celery gin, tomato juice, tabasco, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, black pepper Bloody Mary Martini 17 chilli infused vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, celery salt, tabasco Mary’s Favourites Guava Lime Cooler 17 rum, guava juice, limes, mint leaves, bitters Raspberi-tini 17 vodka, chambord, st. germain, lime, mint, raspberry puree Bloody Gin Mule 17 four pillars shiraz gin, lime juice, mint leaves, ginger beer Peach Sidecar 17 brandy, cointreau, peach syrup, lemon juice Sweet and Sour 17 galliano vanilla, sour rhubarb, apple sour, lime, cranberry juice Mojito - classic, strawberry, coconut, raspberry 17 mt gay silver rum, mint, lime, soda water Number 8 13 chanty – local spirits blended with cranberry mixer, lime Jack Frost 17 blue curacao, white rum, coconut syrup, pineapple juice Chambord Bellini 17 chambord, prosecco French Martini 17 vodka, chambord, pineapple juice Frozen Margarita – classic, mango, strawberry, passionfruit 17 brandy, cointreau, peach syrup, lemon juice Perfect Storm 17 kraken rum, bitters, ginger beer, lime Lemon Meringue 17 gin, limoncello, lemon juice, egg white, sugar syrup Mary’s Desserts Espresso Martini 17 absolut vanilla, kahlua, crème de cacao dark, espresso Chocolate Martini 17 absolut vanilla, crème de cacao dark, santa marta chocolate liqueur, fresh cream Cookies ‘n’ Cream 17 frangelico, kahlua, baileys, cream, cookies Whisky Cocktails Do you enjoy a nice Whisky? The Bloody Mary Is The US’s Most Popular Alcoholic Drink For Brunch (Video) For all those who celebrated more than they should have, National Bloody Mary Day serves up one of the world’s most popular hangover cures on January 1st. According to Food and Drink in American History: “Full Course” Encyclopedia by Andrew F. Smith, the Bloody Mary made its debut in Paris at The Ritz Hotel in 1921. Originally named the Bucket of Blood, it also went by the name Red Snapper. Petiot later left Paris and introduced the vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire, cayenne, and salty cocktail to the New York King Cole Bar scene when prohibition ended. Some attribute the name to notorious Queen Mary Tudor, who executed hundreds of Protestants in the name of Catholicism during her short five-year reign from 1553 to 1558. Others claim Petiot’s girlfriend of the same name receives the credit. Using a celery stick to garnish a Bloody Mary originated in the 1960s at Chicago’s Ambassador East Hotel. A customer received their Bloody Mary without a swizzle stick. They grabbed a stalk of celery from the relish tray to stir his Bloody Mary and history was made. In the United States, the Bloody Mary is a common hangover remedy. It is thought to cure hangovers due to its combination of a heavy vegetable base (to settle the stomach), salt (to replenish lost electrolytes) and alcohol (to relieve head and body aches). The Bloody Mary is the US’s most popular alcoholic drink for brunch. This drink has been called “The world’s most complex cocktail.” The name Bloody Mary is associated with a number of historical figures; particularly Queen Mary I of England.

  • Ultimate Martini Contemporary Cosmopolitan Lemon Drop
While the origin of the martini is unknown, it dates back to the late 19th century when many variations used gin and vermouth. Today’s martinis use premium vodkas, gins and vermouths. Our martinis are stirred and shaken to properly combine the ingredients while limiting dilution. 13 Ultimate Martini Belvedere Unfiltered is made with Dankowskie Diamond Rye, but left unfiltered for a distinctive sea air flavor and creamy mouthfeel. It’s a whiskey drinker’s vodka. 12 Contemporary Cosmopolitan Grey Goose shaken with Cointreau, Cranberry Juice and Muddled Limes as a nod to the Cosmopolitan, made popular in the 1990s. 13 Lemon Drop The Botanist Gin has flavors of Lavender, Lemon Peel and Herbs. Shaken with Fresh Lemon and garnished with a Basil Leaf. 13 Botanical Martini Hendrick’s Gin is from Scotland, has notes of Cucumber and Rose and is paired beautifully with the Citrus flavors of Lillet.
