While there are emotional and relational elements to female sexual function and response, female sexual dysfunction can occur secondary to medical problems and have an organic basis. This paper addresses anatomy and physiology of normal female sexual function as well as the pathophysiology of female sexual dysfunction. Although the female sexual response is inherently difficult to evaluate in the clinical setting, a variety of instruments have been developed for assessing subjective measures of sexual arousal and function. Objective measurements used in conjunction with the subjective assessment help diagnose potential physiologic/organic abnormal- ities. Therapeutic options for the treatment of female sexual dysfunction, including hormonal, and pharmacological, are also addressed. Lilian Orozco Santiago Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, Colombia Summary- The so-called point Gräfenberg popularly known as "G-spot" corresponds to a vaginal area 1-2 cm wide, behind the pubis in intimate relationship with the anterior vaginal wall and around the urethra (complex clitoral) that when the woman is aroused becomes more sensitive than the rest of the vagina. Some women report that it is an erogenous area which, once stimulated, can lead to strong sexual arousal, intense orgasms and female ejaculation. Although the G-spot has been studied since the 40s, disagreement persists regarding the translation, localization and its existence as a distinct structure. Objective: Understand the operation and establish the anatomical points where the point G from embryology to adulthood. Methodology: A literature search in the electronic databases PubMed, Ovid, Elsevier, Interscience, EBSCO, Scopus, SciELO was performed. Results: descriptive articles and observational studies were reviewed which showed a significant number of patients. Conclusion: Sexual pleasure is a right we all have, and women must find a way to feel or experience orgasm as a possible experience of their sexuality, which necessitates effective stimulation. WS Chung1, SM Lim2,JHYoo2 and H Yoon1 Factors related to sexual arousal are different in men and women. The conditions for women to become aroused are more complex. However, the conventional audio-visual stimulation (AVS) materials used to evaluate sexual arousal are universal. In the present study, we investigated sexual differences in the response to different types of AVS by studying activated areas of the brain using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). fMRI was performed during two types of AVS in 20 healthy heterosexual volunteers (aged 20–28 years, 10 men and 10 women). The two AVS types were: (1) mood type, erotic video clips with a concrete story and (2) physical type, directly exposing sexual intercourse and genitalia. fMRI images were analyzed and compared for each stimulation with a Mann–Whitney U test, with statistical significance set at Po0.05. Men preferred the physical type of AVS to the mood type (mean arousal score 2.14 vs 1.86 in females) and women preferred the mood type (mean arousal score 2.14 vs 1.86 in males) (Po0.05). Degrees of activation in brain areas differed between genders and types of AVS for each gender. This should be considered when applying the AVS method to evaluate and diagnose female sexual dysfunction. -

However, these depictions are often constructed in rigid ways to typically exclude experiences of sexual intimacy. Despite this apparent exclusion, constructions of subspace (an altered mental state induced through BDSM encounters) on online blogs intrigued me to consider it as an alternative to widely accepted notions of sexual intimacy. Using a poststructuralist theoretical framework, I conducted an online ethnographic study in which I explored the varied ways in which self‐ identified South African BDSM individuals construct meaning around sexual intimacy. -

Perhaps it was “playing doctor” or “show me yours and I’ll show you mine.” Many of us do not think of childhood as a time of emerging sexuality, although we likely think of adolescence in just that way. Human sexual development is a process that occurs throughout the lifespan. There are important biological and psychological aspects of sexuality that differ in children and adolescents, and later in adults and the elderly. This course will review the development of sexuality using a lifespan perspective. It will focus on sexuality in infancy, childhood and adolescence. It will discuss biological and psychological milestones as well as theories of attachment and psychosexual development. Educational Objectives 1. Describe Freud’s theory of psychosexual development 2. Discuss sexuality in children from birth to age two 3. Describe the development of attachment bonds and its relationship to sexuality 4. Describe early childhood experiences of sexual behavior and how the child’s natural sense of curiosity leads to sexual development 5. Couples and Kinky Sexuality The Need for a New Therapeutic Approach By Margaret Nichols, Ph.D. Founder/Director Institute for Personal Growth Abstract Recent decades have seen changes in the way gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people are viewed by mental health professionals, but this comparative enlightenment has not extended to the so-called “paraphilias.” The mainstream view in the mental health field is still that non-standard sexual practices are pathologies which should be included in the diagnostic manual. This paper presents an alternative view, first defining BDSM or “kink” and then summarizing the data about practitioners of BDSM. Some clinical issues are delineated, such as countertransference, differentiation of problem behaviors from those that are merely unusual, and provision of resources to isolated clients. A few case vignettes are presented for illustration. From the very start of psychiatric nomenclature, non-procreative sexual behaviors have tended to be viewed a priori as pathological: guilty until proven innocent. Today we look back on some of the diagnoses and harsh treatments used to ‘cure’ people of what were considered deviant sexual behaviors and we shake our heads in wonder that our field could once have been so primitive. It is embarrassing to remember that our colleagues once endorsed cliterodectomies and forced sterilization, condemned masturbation and oral sex, and subjected people to electroshock therapy and lobotomies for sexual behaviors we now consider normal. From a historical perspective, we should be deeply skeptical of psychiatric diagnoses involving sexuality, because the designation of ‘sick’ and ‘healthy’ seem to mirror rapidly changing social mores which calls into question the ‘scientific’ basis for classification Bayer, 1981; Szasz, 1961). -

But has the quest to find it helped or hindered womankind? For years, it has been described as the Holy Grail of female sexual pleasure. But for many women and their partners, the quest to find the so-called G-spot has ended in frustration. Now new research suggests this elusive, erogenous zone supposed to be located on the front vaginal wall, may not exist. Someone said: 'Why not call it the Whipple Tickle?' Sexologist Beverly Whipple, who coined the term G-spot A study of nearly 2,000 female twins by King's College London, found no evidence of the spot, based on the experiences of women who share similar genes. Many scientists and doctors have long doubted its existence, while women's magazines have feasted on the notion it is real, with countless how-to-find guides and articles about G-enriched sex lives. The latest finding is unlikely to put an end to debate about the G-spot. But why have we been so preoccupied with it? It all began in 1950, when German scientist Ernst Grafenberg claimed that stimulation of a sensitive area on the front wall of the vagina could trigger female orgasm. FEMALE SEXUAL FUNCTION Sexual Anatomy and Function in Women With and Without Genital Mutilation: A Cross-Sectional Study Jasmine Abdulcadir, MD,1,2 Diomidis Botsikas, MD,1,3 Mylène Bolmont, PhD Candidate,4 Aline Bilancioni, RN,1 Dahila Amal Djema, MD,3 Francesco Bianchi Demicheli, MD,1 Michal Yaron, MD,1 and Patrick Petignat, MD1 ABSTRACT Introduction: Female genital mutilation (FGM), the partial or total removal of the external genitalia for non-medical reasons, can affect female sexuality. However, only few studies are available, and these have significant methodologic limitations. Aim: To understand the impact of FGM on the anatomy of the clitoris and bulbs using magnetic resonance imaging and on sexuality using psychometric instruments and to study whether differences in anatomy after FGM correlate with differences in sexual function, desire, and body image. Methods: A cross-sectional study on sexual function and sexual anatomy was performed in women with and without FGM. Fifteen women with FGM involving cutting of the clitoris and 15 uncut women as a control group matched by age and parity were prospectively recruited. Participants underwent pelvic magnetic resonance imaging with vaginal opacification by ultrasound gel and completed validated questionnaires on desire (Sexual Desire Inventory), body image (Questionnaire d’Image Corporelle [Body Image Satisfaction Scale]), and sexual function (Female Sexual Function Index). Main Outcome Measures: Primary outcomes were clitoral and bulbar measurements on magnetic resonance images. Secondary outcomes were sexual function, desire, and body image scores. Results: Women with FGM did not have significantly decreased clitoral glans width and body length but did have significantly smaller volume of the clitoris plus bulbs. -
