th Friday, Oct 04 Welcome to Japan (Osaka - Okinawa) ____ 4:15p.m. Arrival at Osaka Kansai International Airport. Upon arrival, immigration and customs procedures are required. After customs, please take the elevator to the 2nd Floor of the JAL Domestic counter to check-in, which is located on the right-hand side. After check-in for your Okinawa flight is done, you will have some time to eat dinner or snack. The 2nd floor has a lot of restaurants & take-out foods. 6:15p.m. Please go thru Security to get to your departure gate. Liquid drinks are allowed, please show your drinks to the security agent, they have a liquid analyzer machine to check the contents. 8:20p.m. Depart Osaka/Kansai on Japan Trans Ocean Flt. #09 bound for , Okinawa. No meals will be served on the domestic flight. 10:20p.m. Arrive Naha, Okinawa. At , please pickup your own baggage. We will proceed straight to our awaiting chartered bus to HOTEL PALM ROYAL NAHA in Naha, which is located near Kokusai Dori and near the entrance to the famous Heiwa Dori, open market. The hotel is less than 15 minutes away from the Monorail, Yui Rail – Makishi Station. Coin laundry facility on the 2nd floor. Bring your own fabric softener (laundry detergent is dispensed through the washing machine). Please be advised that it will take about 3 hours or more to wash & dry. Ice Machine on the 2nd floor. Newly built onsen bath on the 2nd floor, men and women are separated.

Saturday, Oct 05th Naha – Shuri Castle – Himeyuri no To______6:30-8:45a.m. Breakfast at the hotel located on the 1st floor near the elevator. 9:00a.m. Bus departs for SHURI CASTLE. Shuri was the ancient capitol of the . Visiting “SHUREI NO MON” (Gate of Courtesy). In 1972 this gate was designated as a prefectural cultural asset. The main entrance to Shuri Castle is Kan Kai Mon (Gate of Joy). We will walk on the Ishi-datami (cobblestone road and stone stairs) and pass thru three more gates before entering the main castle complex. This was the residence and seat of government of the Sho Dynasty, which ruled the Ryukyu Kingdom from 1406 to 1879. This beautiful castle was reconstructed over many years and completed in November 1992.

Shurei no Mon Shuri Castle Courtyard Yubido’s Makunouchi 11:00a.m. We will then visit HIMEYURI NO TO (Star Lily Memorial). The monument was erected in remembrance of the female high school students who supported the Japanese military as nurses but were killed during the Battle of Okinawa. We will also tour the HIMEYURI PEACE MUSEUM. 12:30p.m. Makunouchi Bento Lunch at YUBIDO, the restaurant/gift shop located across the museum. 1:30p.m. Last stop of the day, CHUKO FACTORY. The only distillery in Okinawa that creates its own unique earthware jars. Other awamori brands to be found in bottles are nicely flavored “Chuko” and the smooth one” Jinpu”. The factory has a video with English subtitles of how Okinawan Awamori is made. You will be given an opportunity to taste different types of awamori and umeshu (plum wine). 4:00p.m. Return to hotel. Rest of the day is free at your leisure. Tomomi will take anyone who is interested in going to Heiwa Doori, Machiguwa (open market selling vegetables, fresh fish, fresh pork, Okinawa , & konbu (dried kelp), etc. ( B, L )

th Sunday, Oct 06 Naha - Northern Okinawa – Naha _ 6:30 - 8:15a.m Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will go to the northern part of Okinawa called “ YANBARU”. 8:30a.m Bus departs for MORI NO GARASU (RYUKYU GLASS FACTORY), here you will experience how to blow and make your own glass cups.

Ryukyu Glass 11:15a.m. Bus departs for CHURAUMI AQUARIUM in Motobu. Churaumi means beautiful ocean in Okinawan dialect. This aquarium features the world’s largest acrylic panel, which is sure to dazzle you with exotic and colorful fishes, whale sharks and manta rays. Be sure to ask the aquarium staff for a re-entry stamp before you leave the aquarium. Dolphin Show (1:00p.m.) at Okichan theatre, which is a few minutes by foot from the aquarium.

Lunch at your own expense. Near the aquarium is the Oceanview Restaurant “INOH” which serves buffet style Okinawan Food with assorted dessert & drinks (1512 yen per person or senior citizen 65yrs old or over is 1183yen per person). Or try “OCEAN BLUE CAFE” located on the 1st floor of the aquarium near the window of the Kuroshio Tank, serving Spaghetti Napolitano, Taco Rice, Taco Sandwich & drinks. There is also a snack bar located in the “Park Center” near the Okichan Theater & Dolphin Lagoon serving Okinawan , Curry Rice, Taco Rice, American Dog & more. 2:30p.m. Meet the group at the”CENTRAL GATE SNACK BAR”. We will go as a group to the bus parking area. 2:35p.m. Last stop, will be to KOURI ISLAND, part of Nakajin Village. Kouri Island and Yagaji Island are connected with a bridge (2020 meters long or 1.4 miles long). KOURI OCEAN TOWER has a panoramic view that is fascinating. Original sweets made from specialty produce of Kouri Island. Kouri Ocean Tower's original character goods are on sale. Within the shop, you can observe where the pumpkin sweets Cabonee are sold exclusively on Kouri Island. Famous Pineapple Charcoal Soap too.

Monday. Oct 07th Naha – Kin Town – City – Naha______7:00 - 8:15a.m. Breakfast at the hotel. 8:30a.m. Bus departs for KIN TOWN. Will make a brief restroom stop at IGEI SERVICE AREA before arriving into KIN TOWN. KIN TOWN is well known because of KYUZO TOYAMA, the father of Okinawan immigration. He was a pioneer of migration overseas from Kin Town (previously Kin Village) to Hawaii, North America, Philippines, and central-south America from the Meiji to Taisho period, and developed a foundation for many people who are currently successful in those areas. Kyuzo Toyama was passionate about migration policy and sent migrants from to Hawaii for the first time in 1899 (Meiji 32). He himself also led and went to Hawaii on the second round in 1903 and since then has sent many migrants to North and South America, and Hawaii.

A stop at Kin’s limestone caverns, measuring 270 m in length and located 30 m below the ground, home to over 13,000 bottles of Awamori “TATSU” from Kin Shuzo Distillery Company. This natural environment, which is moist and stays at a constant temperature of 18°C, has been used as Japan’s first vintage sake cellar since 1988. Lunch en route. Bus departs for the east side of Okinawa overlooking the Pacific Ocean to Henza Island in Uruma City, OKINAWA KAICHU ROAD is a road on the sea whose length is 4.7 kilometers (almost 3 miles) the largest of the kind in Asia. It is a beautiful scenic and naturalistic drive. We will make a restroom stop and you will have some shopping time at UMI no EKI “AYAHASHIKAN” near the beginning of the road to Henza.

Last stop, continue on to MIYAGI ISLAND to the “NUCHI MASU FACTORY” (sea salt of Okinawa). Nuchi masu (salt) contains 21 kinds of minerals, which was registered in the Guinness World Records in 2000 for its significant mineral richness. 5:30p.m. Bus arrives back to HOTEL PALM ROYAL NAHA. The rest of the day is at your leisure. ( B )

Tuesday. Oct 08th Naha – Shintoshin Naha – Naha______7:00 - 8:30a.m. Breakfast at the hotel 9:00a.m. We will visit the OKINAWA PREFECTURAL BUILDING (KEN-CHO) and the Congress building. 11:30a.m. Lunch on your expense at the “Ken-Cho” employee cafeteria. They serve , Sooki (Spare Rib) Soba, Goya Champuru (Bittermelon & ), Curry Rice, Katsu Curry (curry rice with pork cutlet over the rice), Yushidofu (fresh hot tofu), and other Okinawan specialities. After lunch, visit OKINAWA PREFECTURAL MUSEUM in a new developed area of Naha City called “ Shin Toshin” (new town). The museum opened on the first of Nov 2007. The museum is suitable for the 21st Century, raising awareness of Okinawa’s nature, history, and culture. 4:00p.m. Return back to HOTEL PALM ROYAL NAHA. The rest of the day is at your leisure. ( B )

Wednesday. Oct 09th Optional Tours to Ishigaki & 7:00 - 9:30a.m. Breakfast at the hotel for people not taking any optional tours. 5:50a.m. No breakfast, transfer to Naha Domestic Airport for interisland flight to Ishigaki. 6:15a.m. Check-in at Naha Airport at JAL. Be sure to check that you have your passport with you. After check in procedures, you are free to roam around the airport or get something to eat. 7:15am Depart on Japan Trans Ocean Flt.#601 bound for Ishigaki. 8:15am Arrive at “ Painushima Ishigaki Airport” upon arrival, please use the restroom inside the baggage claim area before getting on to the bus. 8:45a.m. Sightseeing tour of Ishigaki begins. TAMATORIZAKI OBSERVATORY PLATFORM, the scenic point has been quite known, the East Sea and Pacific Ocean on the other side can be seen from the vintage point. YAEYAMA PALM TREES, designated Japan’s national natural treasure. The palm tree groves growing 10-15 meters tall are a rare species that grows only on Ishigaki and Irimote Islands. At the beginning of the trail, you will find the Yashi Kinenkan (Palm Tree Memorial). The memorial was built to commemorate the achievements of Dr. Toshihiko Satake, discoverer of the Yaeyama Palm Trees. 11:15a.m. YONEKO-YAKI, pottery produces the most colorful and possibly the most cute shisa statues in Okinawa. The workshop is just across the road from Yonehara Beach on the northern coastline of Ishigaki. THE RYUKYU PEARL CENTER, at Kabira Bay is Japan’s only source of cultured black pearls. In Japan, the culturing of black pearls is performed only in Kabira Bay of & Funaki Bay of . KABIRA BAY, is said to be the most beautiful spot on the Ishigaki Island. The beauty of green, small islands lying in the emerald green sea, the region is undoubtably one of a kind. You will be taking a group picture with Kabira Bay as the background.

Lunch at the POZA Oba-San no Shokutaku Diner, having Ishigaki Hamburger plate with Yaeyama Soba. TOUJIN BAKA (CHINESE GRAVE), in 1852, 400 laborers being shipped to California, who were supposed to work as mine workers for the Americans & British traders. Chinese rebelled against the cruel treatment they received from the British.The ship however became shipwrecked off the coast of Ishigaki and 380 Chinese unboarded. Many of them were killed by gunfire from the British pursuers, died by illness or committed suicide. Ishigaki islanders protected and provided shelter for them and furnished them with food. In 1971 a Toujin (Chinese) grave was made in the memory of the 128 people who perished in this foreign land.

MINEYA, Yaeyama Minsaori, its origins are said to have come from India. It is also said that the term for cotton girdle, “Mensa” transformed to become “Minsa”. The Minsa was a special gift presented by young women to men as a sign of the acceptance of love. The combination of 5 (itsu) and 4 (yo) checker patterns characterize this fabric, the women’s confession of love: “Love me forever” (ikuyo…itsuyo). Before going to the hotel, you will have some shopping time at ‘DAISO” 100 Yen Store, Max Value Supermarket, Book Store “Kyouhan”, Drug Store “Eleven”, Home Center & etc. 4:30p.m. We will check-in at the ART HOTEL ISHIGAKIJIMA (formerly Nikko Yaeyama) for a 1 night stay. Highlight at the Art Hotel Ishigakijima for relaxation try their open bath, “NIFAIYU”(onsen style furo). Open daily from 4:30-11:00p.m. and 6:00-9:00a.m. 6:00p.m. Buffet dinner at Restaurant on the 1st floor lobby at the hotel. 8:00p.m. “SHIMAUTA LIVE” Live Okinawan Music at the 1st floor lobby for about 30 minutes. Continuation for Optional Tour: Ishigaki & Taketomi Islands Tour: Thursday. Oct 10th Ishigaki – Taketomi Island – Ishigaki – Naha__ 6:30- 7:45a.m. Breakfast at the hotel in Ishigaki. 8:05a.m Check-out of the hotel and please don’t forget anything in the room. We are going to take our overnighter bag with us to the Ishigaki Port. 8:15a.m Chartered bus from Azama Bus Co. to transfer to Ishigaki Port. 8:30a.m Check-in for your Taketomi Island Tour and leave unnecessary bags on the shelf at Hirata Kanko.

9:00a.m Board a ferry to Taketomi Island, a fast 15 minutes ride. Taketomi Island is a small island surrounded by reefs. Peaceful rows of houses with Shisa, guardian lion statues on the Red/ orange tile roofs and the walls of coral limestone. The scenes of Okinawa from the good, old days are still alive here. Upon arrival, first, we will go to the glass bottom boat ride to see different types of that are found like blue corals, table corals, etc. (not jewelry type Corals), and exotic, tropical fis in the nearby sea. After the glass bottom boat ride, we will take a tour by minivan to HOSHIZUNA BEACH, star-shaped sand which is popular as sand of fortune. Then we will go to the center of the town, to ride the ox cart, pulled by the ox touring the small town. The last place, KIHOUIN MUSEUM, folk documents collections. You can see coins from 2,000 years ago and “musubinawa” (knotted rope) that was used instead of an abacus and other important documents from the times when the poll tax system was used. Back to Taketomi Port to go back to Ishigaki. 11:45a.m. Departing Taketomi Port on the ferry back to Ishigaki Port. 12:00p.m. Arrive Taketomi Port, pickup our overnighter bags at the Hirata Kanko. 12:15p.m. Depart on a chartered bus to Ishigaki Airport. 12:50p.m. Upon arrival at the airport, check-in at Japan Trans Ocean for your flight back to Naha, Okinawa. After check-in is done, lunch on your own at the Ishigaki Airport. RESTAURANT YUNA for local favorites, STARBUCKS COFFEE. The food court has Yaeyama Soba by YAIMA MURA & SEAFOOD “GEN”. ISHINAGIYA: Ishigaki Beef Bowl, Black Wagyu Beef Soba, Black Wagyu Beef Curry 2:45p.m Depart Ishigaki on Japan Trans Ocean Flt.#614 bound for Naha, Okinawa. 3:40p.m Arrive Naha Domestic Airport. 4:15p.m Transfer back to Hotel Palm Royal Naha. 4:45p.m Arrive back at Hotel Palm Royal Naha, the rest of the day is at your leisure. th Wednesday. Oct 09 Optional tour: 1 day & Kadena Tour___ 7:00 - 8:30a.m. Breakfast at the hotel. 9:00a.m. Bus departs for an optional tour to YOMITAN & KADENA. Today we will go to the YOMITAN VILLAGE, culture tour of the village. You will be visiting YOMITAN MURASAKI MURA, this cultural theme park is a replica village of the Ryukyus. It shows what life looked like in the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom, which is now known as Okinawa. We will give you some time to make your original gel candle or colored shisa (Okinawan lion-dog guardian). If you like cooking, experience to making your own Okinawan Cookie “Chinsuko”. Buffet lunch at Murasaki Mura. After lunch, YOMITAN’s OKASHIGOTEN, home of purple sweet potato. Last stop, KADENA MICHI no EKI, a building designed to show the US with its 3.7 kilometer long runways and military aircraft taking off and landing. 4:00p.m. Return back to hotel. The rest of the evening is free.

Thursday, Oct 10th Free Day for Those Not Taking The Optional Tour 6:30 - 9:30a.m. Breakfast at hotel. Free Day for those who did not take the optional tour to shop or visit relatives.

th Friday. Oct 11 Naha - Southern Okinawa - Naha______6:30 - 8:30a.m. Breakfast at the hotel. 8:30a.m. Bus departs for the Southern portion of Okinawa. We will visit GYOKUSENDO PARK, which features a large underground stalactite grotto and an exhibit on poisonous Okinawa “Habu” (snakes). Upon arrival, enter Gyokusendo Cave. It takes about 25-30 minutes to walk through the cave. After exiting the cave it will lead you to the tropical garden and Ryukyu Village. 10:30a.m. Watch an dance performance by local students at the cultural stage, located near the 2nd floor of the gift shop (20 minute performance). 11:30a.m. Buffet lunch (Okinawan food) at Gyokusendo restaurant located on the 2nd floor above the gift shop. 12:30p.m. After lunch, free time to shop around, go back to the cultural village or you might want to see the Eisa dance performance again at 12:30p.m. Check-out Dr. Fish inside the Ryukyu Village: cost: 7 min.- 500 yen per person.

Gyokusendo Cave Ryukyu Costume Picture Taking for 1600Yen Dr Fish 1:30p.m. Bus departs from Gyokusendo Park for PEACE MEMORIAL PARK. 2:00p.m. Arrive at OKINAWA PREFECTURAL PEACE MUSEUM, which opened on April 1st 2000. The museum is divided into 4 sections: “The Road to the Battle of Okinawa”, “Okinawan on the Battlefield”, “Room of Testimony” and “From the Refugee Camps”. Next walk to the CORNERSTONE OF PEACE (Heiwa no Ishiji). It is inscribed with names of each individual, who lost their life in the Battle of Okinawa. 4:00p.m. Arrival back at HOTEL PALM ROYAL NAHA. 6:30p.m. Depart for OKINAWAN DINNER SHOW at URASHIMA DINNER THEATRE in Kume. ( 7:00p.m.-8:30p.m.) Dinner consist of Peanut Tofu, Mozuku & Mimiga(seaweed ), Kubuirichi (sautéed konbu), Rafute(braised pork belly), Umukiji(sweet potato fritters), Ju-Shi(seasoned mixed rice), Nakami Soup(pig intestine soup), and Dessert. 8:45p.m. Return back to HOTEL PALM ROYAL NAHA. Saturday, Oct 12th Free Day ( Naha Matsuri Festival) 6:30-9:30a.m. Breakfast at hotel. Free day at your leisure with relatives & friends. Or you can go shopping at the SAN A Main Place (1 way taxi cost: 700 per taxi) ( B ) 2:00p.m. On the first day of the festival, the Kokusai Street becomes the stage for a Citizens' Parade. Okinawa's traditional dance known as the Eisa and drumming is performed.

Sunday, Oct 13th Free Day ( Naha Tsunahiki on Highway #58) 6:30-9:30a.m. Breakfast at hotel. Free day at your leisure with relatives & friends. Today is Naha Tsunahiki (Giant Tug of War) Day at Highway #58. The Naha Giant Tug of War Festival said to have started in 1450, boasts a long and proud history as one of Okinawa's largest events. The most exciting part of this festival is the giant tug of war featuring a rope that is so big it is recorded in the Guinness book of world records. The rope used in the festival is made of a "female" rope to the West known as Miinna, and a "male" rope to the East known as Woounna. The two ropes are ceremoniously joined and officially becomes 200m long, 43 tons, and needs a total of 15,000 people to complete the tug of war, an almost too impressive sight to see. Any and every one is welcome to pull the rope, and the smiles of participants from many different countries fill the crowd. Besides the tug of war, there are also many other events, such as traditional folk dance parades, Hatagashira performances by youths from regional areas during a Hatagashira Procession, and many many more.
