5TH ANNUAL HEALTHCARE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

HLC 2017OCTOBER 11-12, 2017 RICE BIOSCIENCE RESEARCH COLLABORATIVE MEDICAL CENTER -

CORE VALUES Welcome to the 2017 ACHE-SETC th 5 Annual Healthcare Leadership Conference

Thank you for registering for this year’s conference. For those of you who may continue to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey our hearts go out to you. We hope that this year’s ACHE-SETC Healthcare Leadership Conference allows you, albeit for a brief time, to put aside the heartbreaking scenes and associated losses as result of the devastating storm and focus on your professional development. We believe all attendees should take advantage of this annual opportunity to learn from seasoned healthcare executives about innovative ways to deal with current issues and experience a comprehensive educational program that may address some of the challenges facing you in your professional life.

Early in 2013, ACHE-SouthEastTexasChapter and the Educational Foundation of the SouthEastTexasChapter joined forces to develop an annual conference that would offer cutting-edge educational programs and provide ACHE members an opportunity to earn 12 hours of ACHE Face-to-Face CEUs at an affordable price. On behalf of the Chapter and Foundation leadership, we are honored that you chose to join your professional colleagues in attending this year’s streamlined conference. Much effort in planning this year’s event, in spite of the Harvey episode, has been dedicated to ensure you will enjoy the educational sessions and learning about and understanding best practices that may help you maximize your effectiveness, enhance your skills, and provide the results you hope to achieve.

During the conference we encourage you to take advantage of expanding your skill set, building and strengthening your relationships with peers, and collect new ways of thinking about key issues facing healthcare professionals in today’s world of value-based care and value-based leadership.

If you are a first time visitor to Houston, you will experience the wonderful hospitality and friendliness of Houstonians. One of the most diverse cities in the , we hope you will feel right at home during your visit.

Thank you again for being part of this year’s annual leadership conference. Please take the time to enjoy the sessions and networking opportunities, the , and Houston. You will be glad you did.

We look forward to seeing you during the conference, where together we can discover ways to advance healthcare management excellence.

TOPIC

Equity and Climate Issues for LGBT Patients and Employees: Fostering Inclusion of LGBT Patients and Employees

DESCRIPTION

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patients face many challenges in accessing knowledgeable, unbiased and welcoming healthcare in all practice settings. The potential and/or fear of receiving derogatory remarks, unequitable care, or being turned away from treatment often deters some of the LGBT community and their families from seeking healthcare services. Healthcare equality for all people is a guiding principle of the healthcare management profession. However, discrimination towards the Carl E. Josehart LGBT community continues in the healthcare environment today. SVP, CEO, TIRR Memorial This topic will focus on the need to strengthen the pursuance of equity. Hermann & Post-Acute Care

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ACHE CEUS

Conference seminars are day-long sessions packed with information, best practices and strategies you can take back to your organization and implement, however appropriate for your work situation. As a member of ACHE, you want to ensure that you receive CEUs for your attendance. Review the following information to earn your CEUs.

ACHE FACE-TO-FACE CEUS

Members of ACHE national, who have paid their 2017 dues, will have the opportunity to earn 12 hours of accredited ACHE Face-to-Face (F2F) (formerly known as Category 1) CEUs that are conducted in a panel discussion format throughout 2 days of educational programs. All of the F2F panel discussions have been scheduled for an exclusive time to allow members to attend each session and earn their CEUs (i.e., none of the 8 F2F 1.5 hour sessions will be competing with each other). Please know that in order for you to receive ACHE F2F CEUs you must sign an ACHE required sign-in sheet at the time you enter the F2F session. Failure to do so will prevent you from receiving credit for any F2F session that does not have your signature on the sign-in sheet. Student volunteers will be at the entrance of each F2F session with a sign-in sheet for your signature. The Chapter administrator will be responsible for sending all completed sign-in sheets to ACHE within days of the conference ending.

ACHE QUALIFIED EDUCATION CEUS

All one-hour sessions and both luncheon sessions are classified by ACHE as Qualified Education CEUs (formerly known as Category II CEUs). You do not need to sign anything to document that you attended a specific session, however, if you want to receive QE CEUs you must self-report by taking the following steps:

1. Go to www.ache.org 2. Log in with your user name and password 3. Click on “My ACHE” tab at the top of the web page 4. Add into your profile the title of each session you attended, date/time and appropriate hour(s) 5. 45 minute sessions are listed as 1.0 hours as are one hour sessions
