In his tenth World Championship finale in a row, the defending rallycross World Champion missed yet another podium finish by 0.4 seconds. In the overall standings, the Swede still holds second behind compatriot Johan Kristoffersson. In the teams’ classification EKS is third at the half-way stage of the season. Ekström made a flying start around the rollercoaster track in Norway. Despite torrential rain, the Swede coped the best with the slippery track at the wheel of his Audi S1 EKS RX quattro, and led the overall classification after the first day. “I was a little surprised that we were so fast in the wet, but that was quattro weather,” joked Ekström after the final. “In the dry conditions on Sunday, we struggled again to match the pace of the competition. In the final we lost crucial ground right at the start. This was our own mistake and this ultimately cost us the podium finish.” Although Ekström leaves Norway without a trophy, he still scored 23 important points for the overall standings. After six of twelve rounds, the World Champion is eight points behind the leading VW driver Johan Kristoffersson.

  • Rallycross: Audi and EKS Without Ekström in Höljes
Audi MediaInfo Communications Motorsport Virginia Brusch Tel: +49 841 89-41753 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi -mediacenter.com/en Rallycross: Audi and EKS without Ekström in Höljes • P-G Andersson to stand in for Rallycross World Champion Mattias Ekström • EKS aims to recapture second place in the teams’ standings at home round • Ekström: “DTM has priority” Neuburg, June 27, 2017 – Höljes will be hosting round seven of the FIA World Rallycross Championship this weekend. The event in the Swedish province of Värmland is both the home round for EKS and a big motorsport party. The organizers expect some 45,000 spectators to turn out for the “Magic Weekend” from June 30 to July 2. One of the protagonists, though, will be missing: Mattias Ekström. The Swedish Audi factory driver passes up his home round in favor of the DTM round at the Norisring. His compatriot P-G Andersson will stand in for him. “In Höljes, I won in 2014 and 2015. It goes without saying that I’d have liked to clinch my third big trophy there,” says the reigning Rallycross World Champion. “But the DTM has priority and, regrettably, I can’t split myself in half. Fortunately, my boss, Dieter Gass, made the decision for me.” His Swedish compatriot P-G Andersson will take Ekström’s place in Höljes. The 2004 and 2007 Junior Rally World Champion is no stranger to the World RX. In 2014, he debuted in the 560-hp Audi S1 EKS RX quattro at the World RX round in Turkey. In the 2015 season, the now 37-year- old Andersson contested ten rounds in a VW Polo for Marklund Motorsport, scoring a fourth place in Belgium as his best result.

  • Motorsport 2017 History
MOTORSPORT 2017 HISTORY HISTORY Ever since the company was founded in 1976, Öhlins has represented the very pinnacle of suspension technology and firmly rooted itself as an intricate part of the motorsport industry, underpinning countless world titles. That very technology has subsequently been adopted not only as the gold standard of aftermarket suspension, but is also by car and motorcycle manufacturers around the world. Back in the 1960’s, Kenth Öhlin was an up-and-coming motocross rider and showed an innate talent for mechanics. He knew how to bring the best out of his material and soon he saw himself engaged in modifying his competitor’s bikes. By the time he started his business he had already designed exhaust pipes, engines and – of course – shock absorbers. Öhlins soon became synonymous with advanced suspension. The products were not only superior in terms of technology, but as Mr. Öhlin was, and is, a very meticulous man the quality was always outstanding. The first world championship was won already in 1978, as Russian Gennady Moiseev took the 250cc title on an Öhlins equipped KTM. Since then, more than another 300 world titles have followed. The success continued in road racing and soon also in the automotive segment, in racing as well as in rally, all adding to the motorsport pedigree. But don’t think that Öhlins was content, not for a minute. The company continued to grow, adding electronically controlled, semi-active suspension to its portfolio under the trademark CES. Today, this technology has revolutionized the car industry and can be found in a wide range of products from premium car manufacturers.

On the roller coaster track near Trondheim, 22 campaigners are going to battle for victory in the Supercar class from June 9 to 11. World RX Champion Mattias Ekström ranks in second place of the drivers’ standings after five of twelve rounds. EKS is in position three of the teams’ classification. Round six not only marks the season’s midpoint for EKS. Hell plays an important part in the team’s history as well. In Norway, on June 14, 2014, the rallycross adventure began for Mattias Ekström and his squad. “That was a very, very stressful time,” Ekström says, looking back. “Before the first race weekend, the whole team put in one night shift after the other.” A helicopter had to deliver the engine for the second Audi S1 EKS RX quattro due to the lengthy preparations. Still, the strenuous efforts were worth it for Ekström: “At the start of race one, I had goose bumps all over my body.” The reigning World RX Champion had to wait until 2016 to claim his first sporting success at Hell. Last year, Ekström finished on podium, in third place, on the challenging roller coaster track.

  • SRT Motorsports- Dodge Global Rallycross Race Recap - Bristol
Contact: Matthew Simmons Adam Saal Bill Klingbeil SRT Motorsports- Dodge Global Rallycross Race Recap - Bristol July 20, 2013, BRISTOL, Tenn. - For the second consecutive race, tire issues plagued the Dodge Darts from Pastrana Racing in Global Rallycross competition. It happened at New Hampshire. It was the same story Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway. It wasn’t an issue of faulty tires. The problem was identifying the correct air pressure for the tricky surface that included a mixture of gravel areas and the high-banked concrete turns. For Timur Timerzyanov, driving the No. 199 Red Bull / Discount Tire Dodge Dart, the culprit was a bump in Turn One at “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile Track” as cars transitioned from the gravel surface onto the high-banks. As the Dodge Dart made the transition onto the concrete, the slide across the bump flattened the right-rear tire. Timerzyanov finished eighth. Timerzyanov just missed making the feature in his Heat Race, losing second on the final circuit of the six-lap heat. The top two in the three heats advanced to the feature. He finished third in the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) to claim the final transfer spot to the 10-lap feature. “The car was good, it was driveable,” said Timerzyanov. “That was some battle to the first turn in the feature. We got through that in pretty good shape but then had the tire issue. We had two punctures on the front this weekend and then, in the feature, it was the right rear. I think we would have had a good finish if we didn’t have the tire issue.” Teammate Bryce Menzies also looked to be on his way to the feature in his heat.
