    Historical Highlights 1943 We start with Racine (Chapter # 1) 1945 Wisconsin Association of Chapters formed at Milwaukee following meeting at Appelton. First District Quartet contest held at Milwaukee. 1946 First District Chorus contest of entire Society held at Oshkosh, WI 1947 Name of District changed to Land O’Lakes District Assn of Chapters and later enlarged to include MN and Upper Peninsula of MI. Int’l Convention held at Milwaukee. Milwaukee Chorus introduces Willis Diekema’s “Keep America Singing”. 1948 O.H.King Cole of Manitowoc and Sheboygan chapters elected International President. International Home Building Fund started with contribution by Sheboygan chapter. Manitoba added to LO’L Assn. 1949 Achievement Awards to chapters inaugurated. O.H.King Cole reelected Int’l President. First District Directory published. 1950 Harmony News, first district monthly publication of entire Society published with Hans Beyer as editor. This is our first visit to El Monte High School, and we hope you enjoy the contest facilities as much as we like spring weather on the Pacific Coast. Today’s competition will determine who will represent Southern California and Southern Nevada at the Fall District contest in Bakersfield, California this October. We have a great turnout for this contest, and many of you have come a long way to participate. We wish all competitors the best of luck and a wonderful competition experience. Your events team and the Masters of Harmony have done their best to make this Divisional Contest a success. We would like to thank El Monte High School for sharing their facilities and making us welcome. We would also like to thank members of the District Events Team for keeping the contests running smoothly. Metro started their career in 1998 singing aboard several ships with Celebrity Cruises. After four years with the fleet, they moved to Tokyo, Japan and performed for Tokyo Disney Sea in the American Waterfront.     From Director Tom: Men and Friends of the BCC, Thank you for your nice work on our performance at Lockwood. Thanks to 36+ of you for taking the time to come and sing. It does my heart good. I thought we sang well for a very appreciative audience. It was good to have several quartets. Can we have even more than five quartets and maybe some new faces? Thank you also for the nice time at our favorite watering hole. It was nice to be able to eat with you and not have to worry about teaching the next a.m. Let's keep up the good work! From Prez Jack: Our August 21 performance at Bowers’ School Farm was a result of the “Bob Wallace Four” serenading two ladies during the ride in the parking bus from Log Cabin Days. It amazes me how and where the invitations come to sing at the various events that we do. The power of music is amazing. I continue to be impressed by the relaxed manner that the Big Chief Chorus presents itself. You are quite a likeable bunch. Remember that you are a disciplined chorus with all eyes on the director, but being humble enough to mingle with your audience following the performance.     Dixie Town Crier Dixie’s monthly chapter newsletter dedicated to the original town crier, Chuck Witherspoon February 2013 Volume 5, Issue 2 David Crenshaw reporting AVP entertains Georgia Governor Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and his wife Sandra hosted the Atlanta Vocal Project at the Governor's Mansion on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, to perform for De- partment of Transportation officials from around the country. AVP dined with the Governor and VIP guests before entertaining the crowd with a rousing set of our fa- vorite Christmas and other songs, which elicited a heartfelt standing ovation. P a g e 2 Dixie Town Crier Jim Moore reporting Georgia Spirit earns excellent rating at International Youth Barbershop Chorus Festival Georgia Spirit represented Atlanta Vocal Project, Stone Mountain, and other Atlanta area barbershoppers very well in Orlando at the 6th annual International Youth Barbershop Chorus Festival. They earned an Excellent rating, scored 73.7, and placed 3rd in their age plateau. They also were third in voting for “Audience Favorite” out of 19 choruses. The 27-man chorus was made up of 8 singers from Calhoun, Georgia and 16 from Atlanta, including 7 with AVP or Stone Mountain ties. Three singers were from Florida. Co-directors were Clay Hine and Tim Brooks. The group sang “Who Put the Bomp,” “Georgia On My Mind,” and “I Got Rhythm.” The trip was made on a brand new 54-passenger ex- ecutive charter bus that be- gan at 6 am in Calhoun. A pick up stop was made in Atlanta and then continued to Orlando, where the boys arrived at 3:30.
