Miller 1 Bethany Miller Dr. Deardorff Senior Seminar 8 April 2015 “Shining” with the Marginalized: Self-Reflection and Empathy in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining Stanley Kubrick’s horror masterpiece The Shining has confounded and fascinated viewers for decades. Perhaps its most mystifying element is its final zoom, which gradually falls on a picture of Jack Torrance beaming in front of a crowd with the caption “July 4 th Ball, Overlook Hotel, 1921.” While Bill Blakemore and others examine the film as a critique of violence in American history, no scholar has thoroughly established the connection between July 4 th, 1921, Jack Torrance, and the rest of the film. -

Magda: Stanley Kubrick -- Auteur Stanley Kubrick – Auteur by Adriana Magda (Motion Picture Television 1113) tanley Kubrick is considered one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in history. Many important directors credit Kubrick as an important influence in their career and Sinspiration for their vision as filmmaker. Kubrick’s artistry and cinematographic achievements are undeniable, his body of work being a must watch for anybody who loves and is interested in the art of film. However what piqued my interest even more was finding out about his origins, as “Kubrick’s paternal grandmother had come from Romania and his paternal grandfather from the old Austro-Hungarian Empire” (Walker, Taylor, & Ruchti, 1999). Stanley Kubrick was born on July 26th 1928 in New York City to Jaques Kubrick, a doctor, and Sadie Kubrick. He grew up in the Bronx, New York, together with his younger sister, Barbara. Kubrick never did well in school, “seeking creative endeavors rather than to focus on his academic status” (Biography.com, 2014). While formal education didn’t seem to interest him, his two passions – chess and photography – were key in shaping the way his mind worked. -
Kubrick by Kubrick (2020) Un Mosaico Di Materiali D'archivio Che Si Ritaglia Un Posto Nella Folta Schiera Di Ammiratori Del Maestro

REVISTA DE CRÍTICA LITERARIA LATINOAMERICANA Año XXXVIII, No 76. Abstract This essay traces some contemporary poetics that oppose to the current rela- tionship between language and capitalism—which is defined here as the con- version of our semiotic potentialities into capital and determined by the full legibility of the sign. At a time when material production and linguistic com- munication become equivalent (according to Paolo Virno), some poets are committed to an ethical criticism of the political economy of the sign. In their most recent books, Chilean poets Anwandter and Gubbins, and Peruvian Mon- talbetti attempt a reappropriation of language through cold means—language usage that falls between the legible and the illegible: combinatoires, pastiche, recycling of texts, autoreflexivity. -
