Candidate’s statement addressing the issues facing ICN:

The world is experiencing a rapid demographic changes as the elderly population grows. Countries are calling for innovations in the health and welfare paradigm, and the role of nurses is expanding from cure to care related tasks and from medical institutions to communities. Nurses will play a key role in improving the sustainability and effectiveness of the health care system and in promoting community care. The era of ‘Nursing Age' is approaching. It’s time for ICN to not only prepare for the " Nursing Age," but also to design a new 100 years to come and here are few issues ICN is facing and suggestions for the next ICN board.

1. ICN utilize and support multiple means to convey the voice of nurses In order for nurses to be more proactive and take pride in responding to the rapidly changing health care environment, the role of professional nurses must be more clearly known and disseminated to secure professional socialization. ICN, representing 20 million nurses in the globe, the Social Network Service (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln, etc) should be utilized more systematically. ICN can produce promotional video clip and encourage member NNAs to upload their activities on YouTube to continuously promote the mission and values of professional nursing.

2. ICN actively participate in decision making process Universal Health Coverage can never be achieved without nurses. In order to create a better and healthier world, ICN needs to communicate and cooperate closely with global health organizations to secure nursing workforce in each country and to ensure expertise and independence of nurses.

3. ICN as a pioneer in fostering future leaders Currently ICN is operating GNU (Global Nursing Leadership Institute), LFC (Leadership for Change) program and most recently Nursing Policy Leadership Program has been launched. The Programs can be most effective when tailored differently according to consumer' s needs. The diversity, flexibility and evidence- based contents will help these programs grow into more attractive programs in the future.

4. ICN develop revenue generating strategy. ICN is a federation of more than 130 national nurses associations. In order to be more sustainable and effectively carry out its genuine role and mission, it is crucial to meet the expectations of existing member NNAs and to attract new members. Various internal and external issues are making numerous member NNAs to maintain their membership status. To secure financial stability, ICN needs to diversify the sources of income and increase the non-dues related revenue. To this end, ICN needs to strengthen fundraising capacity, develop ICN endorsement program or projects that generate additional revenue.
