Gradac is a fortified settlement built on the rocky cliff above the Mlava river, at the exit from the Ribarska gorge. Within the defended areal, there are the remains of at least three pro- fane structures and a church settled at the projected north-east part of the mount. Based on accidental findings it could be said that the Gradac site was inhabited during prehistory, Late Antiquity, and the Middle Ages. A field visit for the purpose of revision was performed in 2019 by the authors of this paper, whose results are presented in the following text. KEYWORDS: FORTIFICATION, CHURCH, GRADAC, ACCIDENTAL FINDINGS, rIBarsKa GorGe, DATInG, KrePoLjIn. DEVELOPMENT OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND TOURISM AS CONCEPT OF HOMOLJE RURAL DEVELOPMENT Cvijan Mekić1; Zorica Novaković2; Abstract Homolje is a small area of Eastern Serbia. It is almost entirely within the municipality of Zagubica, with a few deviations. The agricultural land of the area is predominantly grasslands, natural meadows and pastures, around 69% of the total agricultural land. The most significant animal husbandry products of this traditional production are the widely known Homolje cheese, Homolje mutton, Homolje honey and trout. The rural area of Homolje represents a significant (but still unused) resource, not just for conventional food production, but for the development of sustainable organic animal husbandry, production and processing industry, forestry, water management, trade, tourism, hunting, fishing, etc. Analysis shows that, taking into account the available resources, animal husbandry and tourism development should be the main framework for Homolje rural development. Key Words: Homolje, agricultural resources, animal husbandry development, tourism development. JEL classification: Q1 Introduction Homolje is small geographic area in Eastern Serbia. It borders mountain ranges on all sides, Zviţd to the north where Homolje (940 m) mountains continue, Resava to the south where mountain chain of Beljanica (1339 m) begins, lower Mlava plains are to the West and next to them are low Gornjak mountains (825 m). Geomorphological system framed in this way consists of two parts: Ţagubica basin in the East and Krepoljin- 1 Cvijan Mekiš, professor, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Agriculture Belgrade, Serbia, tel: 0631064099, mail: [email protected] 2 Zorica Novakoviš, Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, Belgrade, Republic of Serbia; tel: 063573115; mail: [email protected] 591 krupaj basin in the West, between which there is Beljanica-Homolje mountain chain (Miljkoviš, 1992).

Knowing and assessing the whole geodiversity of Serbia through study of individual phenomena is the starting point for their rational utilization and conservation. Considering the fact that criteria for geodiversity valuation are neither agreed upon nor acknowledged by regulations, basic principles for judging the significance of geodiversity are discussed and the main categories are proposed. Key words: Geoheritage, Serbia, procedures for evaluation, categories of non- -movable and movable geoheritage. INTRODUCTION “You cannot understand conservation without first having an appre- ciation of the value of the item to be conserved” (Cynthia Burek) Geodiversity is defined as the variety within the entire abiotic world, which encompasses the natural range (diversity) of geological (bedrock), 48 MARAN, A.: VALUING THE GEOLOGICAL HERITAGE OF SERBIA Fig. 1. - Map of protected natural monuments related to geoheritage till 1990 (source: Institute for nature protection of Serbia, modified). Recordings preserved in the archive of the Institute of Ethnography SASA also contain examples of vocal practice of the Vlachs from Homolje region (Northeast Serbia). The material was recorded on six audio cassettes, which were later digitized. As ethnomusicological studies of this area are very scarce, the recorded material certainly represents a valuable testimony to the musical culture of the Vlach ethnic community. The aim of this article is to determine the particularities of the recorded examples, based on ethnomusicological analysis and transcription, as well as to isolate the vocal genres found on these audio cassettes. Vocal examples from the recordings of Olivera Mladenović will be paired with existing examples from the literature, as well as examples of current practice recorded by the author of this article. In this way, at least a partial picture of the Vlachs’ musical life in Homolје from the 1980s to the present day will be established, and the comparison will allow us to observe continuity and change. Keywords: Olivera Mladenović, Serbia, Homolje Region, Vlach music, vocal practice * The study was conducted within the Scientific Research Organization Institute of Musicology SASA, funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
