• Gas supply to consumers of Belarus is carried out via gas-main pipelines system. The total length of gas pipelines is more than 7,9 thousand km.
• The gas-transport system of JSC “Gazprom transgaz Belarus” technologically linked with those of neighboring European countries, and allows the transit Russian natural gas to Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation.
• JSC “Gazprom transgaz Belarus” also runs the functions of operating the gas-main pipeline “Yamal-Evropa”, with a diameter of 1420 mm, 575 km, owned by PJSC “Gazprom”.

UGS in Belarus.
Underground gas storage facilities are an integral part of the gas transportation system of Belarus.
Functions of underground gas storing system:
• control of the seasonal irregularity of gas consumption;
• control of the irregularity of export gas deliveries;
• providing gas supply in the case of emergency situations in the gas transportation system;
• creation of gas reserves in the case of force majeure circumstances when transporting gas.

UGS in Belarus. The short history of development.
• In the 60s of last century, on the territory of Belorussian SSR, geological prospecting works on revealing structures suitable on creating UGS were started.
• July 22, 1976, gas injection in Osipovichskoye UGS – the first UGS in Belarus has begun.
• In the 90s, in order to enhance the energy security of the Republic of Belarus, SE “Beltransgaz” begins work on the effective development of UGS system.
• November 18, 1999, Pribugskoye UGS was put into operation.
• Since 2006, the start of work on the creation of Mozyrskoye UGS. Since 2009 Mozyrskoye UGS works in pilot operation.

The construction of the storage started in 2006. It was created in salt caverns on the base of light petroleum storage caverns of fabric “Neman” and depleted caverns of salt-mining enterprise JSC “Mozyrsalt”. So far, these caverns-wells has been converted for natural gas storing. In addition, new wells drilling and new caverns leaching for natural gas storing is being implemented on Mozyrskoye UGS.

The perspectives of development.
The increase in capacity of UGS – is one of the strategic objectives of Gazprom. The expenses of creating additional UGS capacities for the control of seasonal irregularity are several times less expensive than the construction of corresponding spare capacities in gas production and transmission.
UGS development strategy in Belarus is based on the following principles: - the expansion of capacity in order to increase the reliability and flexibility of domestic gas supply and gas exports; - the increase of daily productivity by expanding existing UGS; - maintaining of achieved level by running the reconstruction and replacing of obsolete and outdated facilities.
