Earlier this year, Pope Benedict XVI sent his greetings to riders and organisers of the Tour de France and told them that commitment in sports must always be accompanied by the respect of moral values. His message highlighted that sports can contribute to a person's growth and should always respect moral and educational values. Sport is a vehicle for the education of the values of honesty, solidarity and fraternity, especially among our secondary students and if practiced in respect for the rules, becomes an educational instrument for important human and spiritual values. The scope of this report reflects another amazing year of sporting achievement for our catholic school students and staff in secondary schools across NSW. It provides a reflection of the incredible talent we have in our catholic schools and the pathways that are available in a wide variety of sports. It is always rewarding to see students from our catholic secondary schools listed as members of NSW All School and Australian teams. The report that follows is a most detailed account of the many sporting events for the year. It highlights the representative pathways and illustrates the complex yet incredible organisation that takes place to allow all these opportunities to come to fruition. There is no doubt that our success as an association is a result of the tremendous support at a local level from our participating schools, Principals and teachers. I offer my sincerest thanks and congratulations to the individual sports coordinators at each and every school in our system. They are at the ‘coal face’ where these sporting opportunities are communicated and work tirelessly, often well outside their normal teaching duties. To the NSW CCC sports conveners, thank you for work in promoting and organising your sport. The expertise, motivation and passion you have in coordinating your sport and ensuring access into the All Schools arena is invaluable and you are all vital components to the success of CCC. To the Diocesan and Association representatives – a job well done. Your role in administering and organising your schools is ongoing throughout the year and again vital to allow our pathways to function so effectively. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the NSWCCC executive – Joshua Holmes, Linda Densmore, Robert Ellison and Paul Kennedy for the great work they have done throughout the year. This working committee has met regularly to improve our practices and discuss a wide variety of council issues, all in the aim of making CCC a more professional and effective association. This year we have devoted much of our time to the development of our operational guidelines which will serve as a consistent blueprint for our future operations. A special mention to our good friend Helen Notley who has assisted our group this year. Our organisation has been fortunate to have a dedicated executive officer in Kym Skerritt. Kym has approached her role in a professional, friendly and efficient manner and is always there to support the needs of council members, Principals, schools, students and families. Along with this, Kym provides a vital link to both the Catholic Schools Coordinating Committee and to the NSW All Schools sporting structures. Congratulations on a great year and thank you Kym on behalf of all involved in catholic school sport. The diverse roles mentioned so far are all vital components to the successful operation of NSWCCC. We all must continue to be aware that we are one part of a team, that the association caters for students from all over NSW in over 20 sports and remain open minded to the reality of existing resources that are available to us. Our website needs to be a reliable tool for use by schools, teachers, parents and students and we are looking to improve it’s functionality. I must take this opportunity to again thank Adrian Brown at the Catholic Education Commission for his ongoing support of our website and we all look forward to future developments in this area. Finally, my thanks to the members of the Catholic Sports Coordinating Committee. Your support and guidance of our CCC council and your communication to the Conference of Directors and Association of Catholic School Principals is very much appreciated. As we look ahead to secure our future it is imperative that our council members and enthusiastic teachers continue to receive support from their respective Principals and Diocesan Offices. To those who are leaving our NSWCCCSA thank you for your contributions, good luck to you and best wishes for the future! Please take time to read this NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Annual Report for 2009, I am sure you will be impressed with the quality of our students and the structures we have in place. The scope of this report highlights another amazing year of sporting achievements for students and staff in Catholic Secondary and Primary schools across NSW. It is a reflection of the talent and commitment of students and staff to participate in pathways that are available covering a wide variety of sports. Achievements are gained at a variety of levels from school competition right through to Australian Representation. Many of these experiences will provide lifelong memories and skills for those involved embracing the gospel values. I would like to thank the Association of Catholic School Principals, Conference of Diocesan Directors and Catholic Secondary Schools Association for their continued support and guidance to ensure that opportunities are provided for representative sport in our schools. I would like to acknowledge the support of the Cathlic Secondary Schools Association who provides the legal entity by which NSWCCC operates. In particular, I would like to mention Ian Baker and Santo Passerello who are always available to provide advice and support. Our website continues to become a necessary and valuable source of communication. Many thanks to Adrian Brown from the Catholic Education Commission who manages to find time to maintain the website on our behalf. Website: http://www.cecnsw.catholic.edu.au/sport The Catholic Sports Co-ordinating Committee (CSCC). This leadership team continues to provide guidance support in developing policies that provides direction to its two working groups – NSWCPS and NSWCCC. In particular thank you to Gary McSweeney for his leadership and encouragement to both Executive Officers. CSCC employees: Ann-Marie Miranda, Executive Officer (Primary) who keeps alive the link between CCC and CPS and provides me with great support, Bev Vimpany, who provides the financial support that ensures payments are made and monitored and also provides wonderful support and Kathie Lowe and Natalie Montgomery who provide secretarial support. This is a small team but they work diligently to ensure the administrative needs are met. Also to Helen Notley who volenteers on many occasions to do the behind the scenes work that ensures that events role over smoothly. I would like to extend my thanks to the Executive for their support and guidance. In particular, the work they have done in preparing the Constitution and Operational Guidelines. Your leadership and vision is outstanding. The NSW Conveners work specifically with their sport ensuring rules of play and selections provide a level playing field and ensure all students are given a “fair go”. They embrace the task with professionalism and dedication. I would also like to thank their schools and in particular principals for providing the support for them to carry out their duties.
