RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL FOURTH QUARTER AND FINAL EXAM INFORMATION

In a typical school year, final grades are calculated according to the following formula:

Q1 Q2 Midterm Q3 Q4 Final Exam 20% 20% 10% 20% 20% 10%

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the high school administration, with input from all stakeholders, has developed a method of calculating fourth quarter and final grades for the 2019-2020 school year. This decision was also made after consultation with many colleges and universities, in the area and across the country, public and private, to ensure that we made the best decision for our students. Our goal is to maintain the integrity of student grades, the RHS curriculum, and the hard work of our students and teachers, while minimizing the negative effects of this pandemic to benefit our students to the greatest degree possible.

As a result, we have constructed a modified grading system for the fourth quarter. A student’s final grade will not be negatively impacted from our online learning program as long as the student earns a passing grade for the fourth quarter.

In addition, due to concerns with maintaining the integrity of our exams, final exams will NOT be administered at Radnor High School for the 2019-2020 school year. However, a teacher has the ability to give a summative assessment at the end of year in place of a final exam, but they are not required to do so. This decision is left to the individual teacher.

Please see below for the COVID-19 modified grading system

If the student’s fourth quarter grade is passing and increases their final average OR if the student’s fourth quarter grade is failing it will be counted:

FULL YEAR COURSE WITH MIDTERM Q1 Q2 Midterm Q3 Q4 27.5% 27.5% 10% 20% 15%

FULL YEAR COURSE WITHOUT MIDTERM Q1 Q2 Midterm Q3 Q4 32.5% 32.5% N/A 20% 15%

SEMESTER COURSE Q1 Q2 Midterm Q3 Q4 N/A N/A N/A 60% 40%

If the student’s fourth quarter grade is passing, but decreases their final average, it will not count.

FULL YEAR COURSE WITH MIDTERM Q1 Q2 Midterm Q3 Q4 35% 35% 10% 20% 0%

FULL YEAR COURSE WITHOUT MIDTERM Q1 Q2 Midterm Q3 Q4 37.5% 37.5% N/A 25% 0%

SEMESTER COURSE Q1 Q2 Midterm Q3 Q4 N/A N/A N/A 100% 0%

*It is important to remember that ONLY the final grade will appear on a student’s transcript. The final grade calculations outlined above are intended to benefit the students to the greatest extent possible.
