Comentari musical

La guerra per a què sirveix?. La guerra fa guanyar molts diners a persones que estan ficades en el comerç d'armes, destrucció i mort. Per a elles, este negoci servix com una manera d'enriquiment exorbitant. Respecte d'això, la música és un de tants mitjans per a manifestar el que no estem d'acord. Açò també ho creia el cantant de Soul i Rhythm And Blues Charles Edwin Hatcher, millor conegut com Edwin Starr (1942 - 2003) qui mencionava que la guerra no aporta ni millora absolutament res. Este personatge nord-americà va iniciar la seua carrera en 1957 amb el grup Doo-Wop i en 1960 va treballar amb el segell discogràfic Ric-Tic, més tard cridat Motown Rècords. El seu major èxit ho va aconseguir amb el senzill ;War; cançó de protesta enfront de la guerra de Vietnam, escrita per Norman Whitfield i Barrett Strong. Esta es va convertir en un himne per als moviments de pau i en una fita cultural que continua apareixent en pel·lícules, bandes sonores i en temes musicals. Esta cançó va fer la seua aparició en l'àlbum War & Peace -Guerra i Pau- de 1970. Starr va guanyar en 1971, per este treball, una nominació als Premis Grammy com a millor Vocal Masculí de Rhythm And Blues, i en 1999 va ser exaltat al saló de la fama

Comentari històric

Norman Whitfield i Barret Strong van escriure la lletra de War en 1969 i la banda The Templations la va grabar per primera vegada per el segell Motown. La cançó, amb la seva lletra de protesta en contra de guerra de Vietnam no pretenia ser un gran èxit. Aquest era un himne antibelicista, és a dir, en contra de la guerra. Per això va ser alabada per molts antibelicistes com John Lennon. També és una acusació als agents del govern, ja que teníen ganes de matar a gent inocent, en ambdós bàndols de les trinxeres amb la fí de guanyar honors. En conclusió, la lletra fomentava que la única solució era la pau i el viure com germans.
