Moananuiākea: One Ocean. One People. One Canoe.

Nā‘ālehu Anthony, USA, 2018, 150 min

This documentary celebrates the historic Worldwide Voyage that connected countless individuals and communities from around the globe. In 1976, a voyaging canoe sparked a cultural revival that quickly spread throughout Polynesia, breathing life into ancient myths and legends. More than four decades later, Hōkūle‘a continues to inspire a new generation of navigators and voyagers to gather their courage and sail beyond the horizon of the Pacific.

It is a humbling experience anytime we are allowed on the deck of Hōkūle‘a. The experience of sailing in far away oceans and visiting these ports around the globe as both a filmmaker and crewmember has changed my life. I am honored to have been part of the team that documented the voyage and to help tell this chapter of Hōkūle‘a’s story.”

-- Nā‘ālehu Anthony, director of Moananuiākea
