Mohammed Rahman Subject: LIRR Morris Park Locomotive Shop Date: May 10, 2016 To: Con Edison From: Mohammed Rahman Subject: LIRR Morris Park Locomotive Shop And Employee Welfare Facility Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has retained the services of Jacobs to design the new Locomotive Shop at their Morris Park Facility in Richmond Hill, Queens. The new Locomotive Shop will also serve as an Employee Welfare Facility. There are four existing Con-Edison transformers located outside of the existing Electrical Service Building. The transformers are connected to four utility switchgears inside the Electrical Service Building via Fused Network Protectors. The utility switchgears feed various buildings and yard loads throughout the Morris Park Facility. The existing distribution system does not have adequate spare capacity to provide electrical service to the new Locomotive Shop. The electrical service to the new Locomotive Shop will be fed from a new 480Y/277V, 3Phase, 4 Wire and 4000Amp utility switchgear to be installed inside LIRR’s existing Electrical Service Building (located near the corner of 89Th avenue and 121st Street). The design intent is to feed the new utility switchgear from a new Con-Edison 27kV-480V/277V transformer via new Fused Network Protector (See one-line for details). The Con-Edison transformer is to be installed in the spare open vault located on the north wall of the building. Biographical Note: At age 14, self-described “railfan” David Keller, then a resident of Holtsville, purchased a Yashica twin-lens reflex camera, which he taught himself to use. He then set out on a mission to photograph Long Island Rail Road (L.I.R.R.) structures exclusively; however, his subject matter quickly expanded to include things such as trains and train crews. Keller’s father supported the young teen’s ambition, and he drove him all over Long Island to photograph the various L.I.R.R. stations. Keller later became a fixture at the “PD” tower in Patchogue, where he learned all about the history and operation of the railroad. During college, he worked for the L.I.R.R for three summers, first as a ticket clerk and later as a special services attendant. Keller and fellow avid railfan and writer Steven Lynch have published two books of L.I.R.R. photographs: The Long Island Rail Road 1925-1975 (Images of Rail) (2004) and Revisiting the Long Island Rail Road: 1925-75 (2005). Lapp New York, NY 10017-3739 Executive Director 212 878-7274 Tel 212 878-7432 Fax State of New York July 29, 2004 MTA Board Members: The Preliminary Capital Program for 2005-2009 presented today represents the combined efforts of each of our operating agencies to define the core program needs for the system over the next five years (state of good repair, normal replacement and system improvement); to con- tinue to invest in security projects identified after 9/11 to harden the system from terrorist attacks; and to advance system expansion projects, (East Side Access, SAS, #7 Line and LIRR/JFK connection) into the implementation phase. The MTA Board set the course for today’s submission over twenty years ago with the implementation of the first capital program. By the end of 2004, the MTA will have committed more than $48 billion in capital funds to reclaim and improve the core system—and the results have been remarkable. Since the early 1980’s, on-time performance has increased from 85% to 93.1% for LIRR, and from 80.5% to 97.5% for Metro-North. The mean distance between failures (MDBF) for the subway system has increased contin- uously, doubling every five to seven years and increasing overall from 6,988 miles in 1981 to nearly 140,000 miles in 2003. And at MTA Bridges and Tunnels, average peak-hour queue time has dropped from 3 minutes in 1996 to only 20 seconds, despite a 13% increase in traffic over the same period.
