P. 1320, Yellowknife NT X1A 2L9 Introduction The Government of the Northwest Territories, Department of Infrastructure (INF) is applying for a Land Use Permit for the ongoing operations and maintenance activities for the Dempster Highway (NWT Highway #8). Operations and maintenance activities include accessing granular material, stockpiling, regular maintenance, operation and public safety improvements at infrastructure locations, winter access road construction and maintenance, and all other public highway access roads. As GNWT public servants, all INF staff are accountable, and open to the public for discussion of all matters regarding the Dempster Highway operations and maintenance. As such, the INF staff are well acquainted with the Communities along the highway and all engagement practices and community relationships are well established. Past Engagement Activities INF has engaged with the above listed affected parties prior to submitting the land use permit application. It’s important for INF to keep community members and the public involved in an ongoing basis. Engagement Approach INF believes that meaningful community engagement is crucial to build and maintain good relationships with communities, community members and affected parties. Regional Offices are open for residents to provide in-person comments and concerns, or to ask questions regarding INF activities. As a result of INF open lines of communication, well-established relationships have been built with the people and communities of the Northwest Territories. Engagement Activities for the Project During the pre-submission engagement period, INF built on the engagement approach and opened lines of communication for affected parties to provide input on the project at a number of different steps in the process. Engagement for the Dempster Highway Operation and Maintenance includes activities such as: • Land Use Permit Renewals, Amendments or Extensions; • Road Closures an conditions; and P.O.
