‘BATTLE OF THE BULBS’ CAST BIOS DANIEL STERN (Bob Wallace) – Originally from Bethesda, Maryland, Daniel Stern has been acting professionally since the age of seventeen. Following his high school graduation, he auditioned for the Washington Shakespeare Festival seeking a job as a lighting engineer but ended up with a walk-on role in their production of As You Like It. Shortly thereafter, Stern made his way to New York where he trained to be an actor and began to accumulate several off-Broadway credits including Split, Frankie and Annie, The Mandrake, and The Old Glory. Director Peter Yates gave Stern one of his first breaks when he cast him as one of the four Indiana teenagers in the highly acclaimed film "Breaking Away" for Twentieth Century Fox. Following that, Stern appeared in Woody Allen's "Stardust Memories," Barry Levinson’s “Diner,” Claudia Weill's "Its My Turn" and John Schlesinger's "Honky Tonk Freeway.” Other film credits include "I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can," "Blue Thunder," "Hannah and Her Sisters," "The Boss's Wife," "The Milagro Beanfield War," "Born in East L.A." and "D.O.A." Stern is also widely known for his roles in the feature films “C.H.U.D.,” “City Slickers” and “City Slickers 2,” “Bushwhacked,” “Rookie of the Year,” “Whip It” and the first two “Home Alone” films, in which he played fumbling thief Marv Merchants. In the late 1980s, Stern enjoyed five seasons on the popular and critically acclaimed television comedy, "The Wonder Years,” as the narrator and adult voice of the series’ hero, Kevin Arnold. His other television credits include animated series “Dilbert,” “Hey Arnold!” and “Family Guy,” among others. # # # MATT FREWER (Stu Jones) – Most recently, Gemini Award Nominee Matt Frewer has been seen as the White Knight in Nick Willing’s mini-series “Alice” alongside Oscar winner Kathy Bates. In 2009 Frewer shot four feature films including “Frankie and Alice” with Halle Barry, and “300” director Zack Snyder’s major Warner Brothers release, “Watchmen.” Frewer also appeared in Snyder’s 2004 film “Dawn of the Dead,” one of the top-grossing zombie films of all time. In recent years, Frewer has also traveled to South Africa, where he shot “Darfur,” and China, where he played the lead in the action/adventure film “Wushu Warrior.” (more) HALLMARK CHANNEL/ ‘BATTLE OF THE BULBS’ – Cast Bios – Page 2 Frewer is the son of a career Canadian Navy officer and was raised in Victoria, British Columbia and Ottawa, Ontario. His first love was sports, serving as quarterback on his high school football team, but a serious hockey injury at the age of 16 sidelined his hopes for a sports career. Frewer chose to study acting and traveled to England, where he received a comprehensive classical theatre education. His work on the big screen includes memorable roles like Big Russ Thompson, Rick Moranis' neighbor in “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” and a nefarious computer genius in “Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace.” Frewer is also a familiar face on television where he has been a series regular on both SciFi Channel’s “Eureka” and CBC’s “Intelligence.” He has also starred in three Sherlock Holmes films for Muse Entertainment, CTV and the Odyssey Channel. Frewer made guest appearances on various series, including “St. Elsewhere,” "Miami Vice" and “Star Trek-The Next Generation,” and had notable roles as historian Edwin O’Rieschauer in the American Playhouse presentation of PBS’s “Long Shadow,” as an arsonist allied with evil in the ABC miniseries “The Stand,” based on the Stephen King novel, and as Alexander Haig in TNT’s “Kissinger and Nixon.” In addition to his long list of fine comedy and dramatic roles, Frewer will always be remembered for his groundbreaking work and creation of pop-culture icon Max Headroom in the 1985 TV movie and 1987 TV series of the same name. Frewer can be seen later this year with Seth Rogan in Rogan’s upcoming, still untitled new feature. # # # ALLISON HOSSACK (Mindy Wallace) – Originally from Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, Allison Hossack started in the entertainment industry in the early 90s and has been making a name for herself ever since, both in Canada and in the United States. She received her Bachelor’s from Brandon University in Manitoba, where she completed a major in Music and a minor in Drama. She has since continued acting and voice training in New York City. Hossack’s first appearance on-screen was as a series regular in the NBC soap opera “Another World.” Following that, she landed a lead role in “White Light,” directed by Al Waxman as well as a lead in the series “Cobra.” Hossack also held roles on several shows, including “Profit,” “Jake and The Kid,” “Two,” “Hope Island,” the multiple award-winning series “Da Vinci’s Inquest” and “Kingdom Hospital,” written by the renowned Stephen King. Hossack guest-starred on “Stargate: Atlantis,” for which she was nominated for a Leo for Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series. Her other television credits include “Falcon Beach” for ABC Family, the CW’s “Reaper,” CTV’s “Robson Arms” and “Heartland” for CBC. (more) HALLMARK CHANNEL/ ‘BATTLE OF THE BULBS’ – Cast Bios – Page 3 Hossack has also starred in several feature films and made-for-TV movies, including last year’s “The Gambler, the Girl, and the Gunslinger” alongside Dean Cain on the Hallmark Channel, and the Lifetime originals “Night Owl,” “The Hired Heart,” “A Little Thing Called Murder” and “A Job to Kill For.” She also starred in “Dangerous Intentions” with Donna Mills and Corbin Bernsen, “In the Dog House” for Showtime, “Anthrax” and “The Quality of Life” for CBC. Hossack has also appeared in such movies as “Escape from Mars,” “Ladies Night,” “Saving Milly” and “Normal.” In addition to her many on-screen roles, Hossack is also a seasoned live performer, having played such roles as ‘Ophelia’ in Othello, ‘Candida’ in Candida, ‘Titania’ and ‘Puck’ in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and ‘Liesel’ in The Sound of Music. # # # TERYL ROTHERY (Mary Jones) – Actress Teryl Rothery always knew she wanted to be an entertainer. Her first role came as a dancer in a production of Bye Bye Birdie at age thirteen, before she went on to land her first television appearance on CBC. A Vancouver, B.C. native, Rothery has worked in the industry for many years with great success. Rothery trained at the Larry Moss Studio in Los Angeles, and Gastown Actors’ Studio and The Shakespeare Centre, both in Vancouver. Her most memorable television role has been Dr. Janet Fraiser on the hit, Emmy®-nominated sci-fi series “Stargate SG-1” for seven seasons. Rothery received a 2003 Leo Award nomination for Best Supporting Lead in a Series for her portrayal of Fraiser, the medical officer for the Cheyenne Mountain Facility who faces many peculiar cases. She currently has recurring roles on the CW’s new series, “Hellcats,” and the Sci-Fi Channel drama, “Caprica.” Other television credits include roles on “Kyle XY,” “Dead Like Me,” “Jeremiah,” “The Dead Zone,” “DaVinci’s Inquest,” “The Guard,” “Smallville,” “Supernatural” and “Psych.” Rothery has also had lead and supporting roles in dozens of television movies, including a co- starring role in “Totally Awesome,” a comedy for VH-1, “Behind the Camera: The Different Strokes Story,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas Eve,” “Sandlot 2,” “The Book of Ruth” and “Video Voyeur: The Susan Wilson Story.” Most recently, she’s had roles in the miniseries “Alice” for the SciFi Channel, “Babylon 5: The Lost Tales,” and “Fairly Odd Parents.” Her feature film credits include a supporting lead role in "Whisper" for Universal Pictures, “White Noise 2” and “Best in Show.” In recent years, Rothery has turned back to her roots on the stage to perform in theatre productions in her hometown of Vancouver, including Julius Caesar at the Jericho Arts Centre, Cymbeline and Merlin at the Carousel Theatre. --HALLMARK CHANNEL-- .
