ARRIVING AT HARVARD

Welcome to Harvard! We at Harvard Yard Operations are excited to have you join the Harvard community and want to make your move-in process as smooth as possible. Please read below for important information on how to get to campus and how to collect your room key, Harvard photo ID card, and other essentials. Be sure to check this website for updated information closer to move-in:

Harvard’s official opening for the Class of 2018 is Monday, August 25 starting at 7:00 AM. If you are participating in a program approved for early arrival, please see the note on the reverse side. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you on August 25 and working with you throughout the year!

DIRECTIONS TO CAMPUS

By Automobile

Students living in Apley Court, may drive directly to 16 Holyoke St, Cambridge, MA 02138 to unload belongings. Holyoke Street is one-way running South to North (1/2 block south of Harvard Yard).

Students living in Hurlbut (2 Prescott St.), Greenough (10 Prescott St.) or Pennypacker Halls (387 Harvard St.), may drive directly to their dormitory to unload belongings. Prescott Street is one-way running South to North (1 block east of Harvard Yard).

For students living in Canaday, Grays, , Hollis, Holworthy, Lionel, Matthews, Mower, Stoughton, Straus, Thayer, Weld and Wigglesworth Halls:If you arrive before 5 PM, go directly to the Class of 2018 staging area at the Harvard parking lot. This lot is located at 65 North Harvard St. , MA 02134 (see map on reverse side). Upon arrival, you will receive an entry pass to Harvard Yard as well as directions to the Yard from the staging area. Please be sure to get your entry pass! Absolutely no cars (except taxis) will be allowed in the Yard without a pass. Please note that wait time varies depending on traffic and time of day, and could be as long as one and a half hours. Rest room facilities are available at the stadium.

By Public Transportation

From South Station (Amtrak, MBTA subway, Greyhound, other ): go downstairs in South Station and follow signs to the Red Line subway. Take the inbound train toward Alewife and get off at (sixth stop). The subway costs $2.10. From Logan Airport – via subway: take Silver Line subway from your terminal to South Station (see from South Station above). From Logan Airport – via taxi: the fare to Harvard Square costs $35-45. Taxis may go straight to the (the entrance to Harvard Yard); they do not need a pass to enter the Yard.

PICKING UP YOUR KEYS AND HARVARD PHOTO ID CARD

→ Students assigned to Apley Court or to dormitories within Harvard Yard pick up their keys from the Main Key Tent located in Harvard Yard. → Students assigned to one of the Union Dorms (Greenough, Hurlbut and Pennypacker) may pick up their keys on the lawn in front of the Freshman Dean’s Office located at 6 Prescott Street.

Students must bring a government-issued photo ID (e.g. passport, driver’s license, state ID, military ID, etc.) in order to pick up their Harvard University ID card. You will not be able to pick up your Harvard student ID, which you will need to access your dormitory, without a valid photo ID. Please do not send a family member to pick up student keys. Along with dormitory key(s), students will receive a copy of the Calendar of Opening Days and other important materials. Students who submitted an acceptable photo for their housing questionnaire will also receive their Harvard photo ID at the key tent. Students who did not submit a photo, or whose photo was rejected, will need to go to the ID Office on move-in day to pick up their Harvard photo ID. (Students will be notified via email prior to move-in day if they will be required to pick up their Harvard photo ID at the ID Office.)

After the 6:00 pm move-in deadline, all uncollected keys and Harvard photo IDs will be returned to Yard Operations in the basement of Weld Hall.

COMPLETING THE MOVE

Once you have found a place to park in the Yard or outside your dorm, please unload quickly, and then you will be directed to move to the Class of 2018 reserved parking area (maps will be provided upon your arrival). Your prompt unloading will give all members of the Class of 2018 the chance to move into their dorms in a timely fashion. Please note that trucks longer than 15 feet are prohibited in the Yard during move-in. If you have purchased large items that you would like to have delivered to your dorm, please contact Yard Operations at 617-495-1874 to make the necessary arrangements for access to the Yard after move-in day.

Note for Early Arrival Program Participants: Dorm Crew, First-Year Urban Program, First-Year Arts Program, First-Year International Program, First-Year Outdoor Program, Early Arrival Athletes, and ROTC Indoctrination students can pick up their keys at the key tent located in Harvard Yard after 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 24. Note that permanent beds and furniture must not be claimed before all roommates arrive on move-in day – all roommates must be present.
