As the will of the students go, so goes the will of the nation.

Short When the Nazis begin killing Jews in Holland, a group of youth fight to save the lives of the innocent.

Medium In Holland during WWII, Corrie ten Boom’s army of untrained teenagers including Hans Poley, Piet Hartog, and their friends navigate a deadly labyrinth of challenges to rescue the Jewish people in their panicked exodus from death. All the while, they embark on a nonstop, action-packed hunt with the Underground involving Gestapo hijacks, daring rescues, codes in windswept old windmills, and stunning miracles in one of history’s most famous dramas. Climaxing in the true, breath-taking rescue of an entire orphanage of Jewish children marked for mass execution by Hitler’s assassins, audiences will both cheer and weep at this exciting, sobering true tale of Hans and the youth resistance movement that dared to resist one of History's cruelest tyrants.

Long When Corrie ten Boom realizes the rising Nazi empire will swallow Holland and create the holocaust of every innocent Jew in secret death-camps, she faces the deadly threat of these “Death-Skull Storm Troopers” with a surprising remedy: an army comprised of untrained teenagers.

Around that same time, brilliant young physics student, Hans Poley, chooses not to join the Nazi party. To protect him, his parents force him into hiding in the home of Corrie ten Boom. While in hiding, he witnesses the atrocities toward the suffering Jews and decides he must do something.

Hans is drawn by resistance fighter, Piet Hartog, and love of Piet’s life - Aty van Woerden (Corrie ten Boom’s niece) into an intricate web of espionage and clandestine activities centered in the famous Hiding Place. As part of Corrie ten Boom’s army of untrained teenagers, Hans, Piet, and their friends navigate a deadly labyrinth of challenges to rescue the Jewish people in their modern-day, panicked exodus from death while embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt with the underground involving Gestapo hijacks, daring rescues, codes in windswept old windmills, and stunning miracles in one of history’s most famous dramas. Climaxing in the true, breath-taking rescue of an entire orphanage of Jewish children marked for mass execution by Hitler’s assassins, audiences will both cheer and weep at this exciting, sobering tale of Hans and the youth resistance movement that dared to resist one of History's cruelest tyrants.

I’ve always been a fan of events in history which were pivotal turning points for mankind. The smallest of decisions, the most innocent of contemplations - where the consciences of men, women and children prevailed against the popular and social acceptable norms of the day. As a younger man, I was privileged to meet a humble, gentle man whose act of rebellion against Nazi tyranny in World War II during the invasion of the Netherlands reminded me of that eloquently simple figure we all remember - standing alone and solitary in Tiananmen Square as the tanks of the Chinese military ground to a halt inches from his beating heart.

Hans Poley became a dear friend to me through the decades and inspired me to write of his exploits, many of which were so traumatic and horrifyingly unpredictable as to their results that he was unable to even broach the subject in his home with his dear wife in the decades following the war. They never recovered from the shock of their teen years that should have been filled with innocence and laughter. For years following the war, Corrie ten Boom (of the famous Hiding Place) delivered speeches before millions world-wide. She would reference the unique resistance fighters who did the actual smuggling of the Jews into her hiding place and then out of her Dutch home to places beyond the deadly reach of the Nazis throughout Europe. She called this underground resistance her “teenage army” – mere kids aged 13 to 19.

After 14 years of writing and seeking funding for this film, the perfect storm of historical events has gathered for a world ready to hear this incredible tale of innocence lost, and immortality gained. I have lived 56 years doing commercial work producing ads, speaking publicly, writing and producing documentaries with a sense of an unrequited love. My vision since I was a boy and the only true expression of my gifts, and expression has been through writing and directing films where truth alters the audience long after the credits have run. And thus the perfect storm: a great story with real historical characters in a stunning story of self-sacrifice for the greater good, brought to life by the most gifted and devoted actors, crew and fulfillment of my life-long dream, all climaxing into what I believe to be a moment in time that will impact society for generations to come.

The film's main character Hans, who fights against the Nazis to save Jewish lives, was actually a good friend and mentor to the Writer/Director; which most of the stories and lives in the film are based upon.

Mimi Sagadin, who plays Corrie Ten Boom in Return to the Hiding Place, also played Eva in the live action performance of The Hiding Place in Chicago.

The 248 year old DeZwaan windmill used in the film is the only authentic Dutch windmill transported from the Netherlands to the United States. Despite showcasing bullet holes from the war, this windmill is fully functional and produces about 3,000lbs of flour every year.

Part of the film was shot in the real Ten Boom Watch Shop in Haarlem, Netherlands, including the scene where John Rhys-Davies character Eusi and Hans Poley are hiding behind the wall. To date, Return to the Hiding Place is the only film that has ever been allowed to film in the actual Ten Boom home where these true events took place.
