It covers the two financial years 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, and subsequent developments up to the end of December 2009. It has been compiled by the Government Historic Estates Unit (GHEU) in English Heritage, and produced for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Its purpose is to draw attention to the government’s record in managing its historic estate. Course: Psych 369: Primates in our Midst: How Monkeys Solve the Human Problem Nonhuman primate minds are shaped for problems they encounter in the wild foraging social relationships, navigating space, etc. However, many face new cognitive challenges imposed by living with or around humans, either in captivity (i.e., in zoos or sanctuaries) or the wild (when humans co-occupy their habitats through urban sprawl, deforestation, ecotourism, etc.) Primates have succeeded to the extent they have thanks to a hallmark of their primate minds: the ability to change their behavior intelligently in reaction to new situations. We will examine how primates flexibility adapt to humans both in captivity (the London Zoo, Howlett’s Animal Park) and the “wild” (Gibraltar Nature Reserve). Although education is a relatively new phenomenon in the English and Welsh penal system, by the 20th century, education had become an integral part of prison life. It served partly as a control mechanism and partly for more altruistic needs. Until 1993 the management and delivery of education and training in prisons was carried out by local education authority staff. Since that time, the education responsibility has been contracted out to organizations such as the Staff College, other universities, and private training organizations. Various policy implications were resolved in order to allow these organizations to provide prison education. Today, prison education programs are probably the most comprehensive of any found in the country. They may range from literacy education to postgraduate study, with students ranging in age from 15 to over 65. The curriculum focuses on social and life skills.

    DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK ANNUAL INTERNAL AUDIT REPORT 2016/17 and PROPOSED INTERNAL AUDIT PLAN 2017/18 Section 1 - ANNUAL INTERNAL AUDIT REPORT 2016/17 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 The following report sets out the background to audit service provision, review work undertaken in 2016/17, and provides an opinion on the overall adequacy and effectiveness of the Authority’s internal control environment. 1.2 The Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015 specify that all Authorities are required to carry out a review at least once each year of the effectiveness of its system of internal control, and to incorporate the results of that review into their Annual Governance Statement (AGS), which must be published with the annual Statement of Accounts. 2 BACKGROUND 2.1 Service Provision 2.1.1 The Internal Audit (IA) Service for Dartmoor National Park Authority is delivered by the Devon Audit Partnership. This is a shared service arrangement between Devon, Torbay, Plymouth and Torridge councils constituted under section 20 of the Local Government Act 2000. 2.2 Regulatory Role 2.2.1 There are two principal pieces of legislation that impact upon internal audit in local authorities: Section 6 of the Accounts and Audit Regulations (England) Regulations 2015 which states that: “…….A relevant authority must, each financial year— (a) conduct a review of the effectiveness of the system of internal control and (b) prepare an annual governance statement” Section 151 of the Local Government Act 1972, which requires every local authority to make arrangements for the proper administration of its financial affairs. 2.2.2 ‘Proper practices’ have been agreed and defined by the accounting bodies including the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounts and the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors as those set out in the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS).
