Harry T. Burleigh was a star student of Dvorákˇ at the National Conservatory in New York. A talented composer and singer, he exposed the Czech composer to American spirituals and was in turn encouraged by Dvorákˇ to perform his native African American folk music. Two generations later, Copland and Bernstein conceived a clean, clear American sound that conveys the wonder and awe of open spaces and endless possibilities. His works have been performed internationally and have been used in competitions given by the National Flute Association and the British Flute Society. Clarke’s compositions are also referenced in the Peters Edition of the Edexcel GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) Anthology of Music as examples of extended techniques. The significance of Clarke’s works lies in his unique compositional style. His music features sounds and styles that one would not expect to hear from a flute and have elements that appeal to performers and broader audiences alike. -

Met enige trots presenteren we nu onze vierde Complete Catalogus 2017. In een wereld waar de grenzen van de nieuw gecomponeerde muziek continu verlegd worden, streven we als muziekuitgevers naar een eclectische catalogus, waarin kwaliteit, eigenheid en artistiek ex- cellentie onze criteria zijn. Deze catalogus bevat vele nieuwe titels van onze huiscompo- nisten, van Robert Zuidam tot Paul M. van Brugge, in omgekeerde alfabetische volgorde. Nieuw in ons fonds zijn componisten Annelies Van Parys (1974) en Aart Strootman (1987). Van Parys onderzoekt in haar muziek akoestische klankmogelijkheden, terwijl Strootman naar een sound zoekt die aansluiting vind bij de popmuziek – een stroming die leeft binnen zijn generatie. Ook op het terrein van de educatie presenteren we twee nieu- we componisten. Monique Krüs componeert muziek die door de gekozen thematiek en artistieke niveau het educatieve aspect overstijgt en hiermee een frisse aanwinst is voor het genre van de familievoorstelling. -

A soprano portuguesa sucede a Patrick Dickie que se demitiu em junho, informou, em nota enviada ao Ensino Magazine, o Ministério da Cultura. A nova diretora do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos deverá entrar em funções no dia 1 de outubro. Elisabete Matos, em declarações à imprensa, disse pretender "devolver o brilho internacional ao Teatro Nacional de São Carlos" e acredita poder contribuir para ultrapassar os problemas que aquela instituição atravessa. Na nota o Ministério recorda que a soprano Elisabete Matos "ao longo de mais de 25 anos de carreira internacional atuou nos mais importantes palcos mundiais. É Professora Adjunta Convidada na Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco desde 2014 e desde 2017 diretora Artística do Festival Internacional de Música Religiosa de Guimarães". António Fernandes, presidente do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, mostrou-se satisfeito com a escolha do ministério. "A professora Elisabete Matos colabora com o Politécnico há vários anos. -

Otto Ketting “The sensitivity of his music, together with a powerful aesthetic awareness, has always placed Ketting at the lonely top of Dutch composing.
