FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to Orlando and the 46th annual convention of the National Flute Association! On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’m happy to welcome you to our extraordinary gathering. Francesca Arnone and her assistant, Kristen Stoner, have created a very special four-day festival. With the collaboration of our excellent staff—Kelly, Kris, Vicky, Kate, Anne, and Brian—every- thing from the loftiest plan to the smallest detail has been Kyle Dzapo addressed. Please thank them for their dedication to planning an unforgettable, enriching experience for us. As a largely volunteer organization, the NFA also depends on hundreds of others throughout the year. Let’s express our appreciation to the competition coordinators, committee chairs, and other appointees; our convention volunteers, led by Townes Osborn Miller and Margaret Haik; our local arrangements team, led by Tammy Phillips; our Equipment Manager, Kim Goodman, and Stage Manager, Paula Gudmundson; and our fantastic new group of convention interns. There was unprecedented competition for internship positions this year, and I know we have a group who will enhance the smooth operation of our convention. Our exhibitors provide some of the convention’s most important attractions: you won’t find a better selection of flutes, flute music, accessories, and the latest innovations of the industry than in our exhibit hall. Please extend generous patronage that will show our appreciation and keep them coming back. It’s great to have so many international flutists with us. We value those who have come from near and far to share their expertise. It takes all of us—Board, staff, volunteers, performers, presenters, and attendees—to have such a fabulous gathering. There’s something for everyone here, and over the next four days, I hope you’ll enjoy both the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and musicianship and also enjoy the camara- derie of fellow musicians. The Myrna Brown Dine-Around, a longstanding NFA tradition that recognizes the collegial spirit of our founding Executive Director, expands to a second night this year. Enjoy a meal at a nearby restaurant Thursday or Friday (or both!) and get to know NFA members you wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to meet. If you haven’t already, I hope you’ll register for Saturday night’s Gala Awards Dinner, one of our most inspiring events. I always encourage participation, whether or not you know the award winners, because it brings us together and supports our Endowment. This year we recognize András Adorján, Eva Kingma, and George Pope. The 5:00 p.m. reception is open to everyone, without reservations. Dinner reservations may be made until Friday at noon. I hope to see you at our Annual Meeting Thursday morning where you can greet officers and board members, meet candidates for office, and hear the latest news of our association. Until then, best wishes for an inspiring and enjoyable week! —Kyle Dzapo President, NFA Board of Directors 46TH annual national flute association convention, orlando, 2018 11 #NFAFlute2018 nfaonline.org FLUTES · PICCOLOS · HEADJOINTS · REPAIRS · MUSIC · ACCESSORIES SPECIALISTS FOR EVERYTHING FLUTE AND PICCOLO Looking to buy?
