    SCORPION: GRIFFON command post is qualified November 23, 2020 On 13 November 2020, the French Delegation for Armaments (DGA) qualified the command post vehicle (EPC) variant of the GRIFFON vehicle. At the same time, the first examples are being submitted for acceptance by the DGA's quality department at the Roanne site. Therefore, the three first GRIFFON EPC have been delivered to the Army technical section (STAT) which will continue the operational evaluation of this equipment with its rapid deployment within the regiments in sight. The GME (temporary grouping of companies) EBMR (Engins Blindés Multi-Rôles) comprised of Nexter, Arquus and Thales is fully mobilized on the production of the first 20 series GRIFFON EPCs to be presented to verification operations by the end of 2020. Ultimately, the SCORPION program calls for the acquisition of 333 units of this variant, half of which will be delivered by 2025. As a reminder, the SCORPION program aims to modernize the Army's combat capabilities and in particular to improve command through new information resources. The GRIFFON EPC can accommodate a pilot and a gunner in the front, and five soldiers in the rear of the vehicle. From an external point of view, the silhouette of the EPC does not differ from the VTT Félin variant (troop transport vehicle). Only the armament changes, with the integration on the roof of a new-generation T2 remotely operated turret armed with a 7.62mm caliber. Inside, on the other hand, the GRIFFON EPC is fully equipped to accommodate a command post: communication means, large screens, a board and a printer.

Federico Castello Correzioni e revisioni a cura del Dottor PANEBIANCO Andrea Torino, gennaio 2021 INTRODUZIONE Con l’introduzione del carro armato nei campi di battaglia nacque la necessità di trasportare la fanteria di supporto in maniera rapida: vennero quindi ideati dei mezzi che avessero un certo grado di protezione dalle armi leggere e delle capacità di autodifesa. Numerosi sono gli esempi di veicoli ruotati, semicingolati e cingolati di questa classe che durante la seconda guerra mondiale vennero prodotti sia in campo alleato che in quello dell’Asse, oggi questi mezzi vengono generalmente denominati Armoured Personnel Carrier. Durante la guerra fredda vennero introdotti, sia dai paesi del Patto di Varsavia sia da quelli della NATO, dei veicoli che erano armati più pesantemente ed in grado di supportare la fanteria una volta che fosse sbarcata dal mezzo, questa evoluzione del APC è generalmente conosciuta oggigiorno come Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Tutte queste categorie di veicoli vennero sviluppate per soddisfare le esigenze operative di un conflitto simmetrico ad alta intensità, tuttavia con la fine della guerra fredda gli eserciti occidentali si trovarono ad operare in conflitti asimmetrici considerati a bassa intensità, in operazioni di peacekeeping e successivamente anche di counterinsurgency. Nelle fasi iniziali del conflitto in Iraq e di quello in Afghanistan, tra i mezzi che vennero allora dispiegati nei teatri operativi erano presenti dei poco protetti e armati Light Utility Vehicle come gli Humvee o i VM90 nel caso italiano, questa categoria di mezzi era stata concepita per ruoli di seconda linea o di ricognizione e pattugliamento.

Per tutta la durata della Guerra Fredda, gli strumenti terrestri della NATO (con la notevole eccezione dell’Esercito Francese, che però era fuori dal Comando Militare Integrato) hanno attribuito scarsa importanza ai veicoli ruotati da combattimento, dedicando tutte le loro attenzioni alla organizzazione di massicce forze corazzate e meccanizzate che potessero confrontarsi con quelle, comunque significativamente superiori, del Patto di Varsavia. Quest’ultimo, per contro, nell’ambito delle sue imponenti forze pesanti, disponeva di enormi quantitativi di blindati 8x8 BTR, che affiancavano i veicoli da combattimento della fanteria (IFV, Infantry Fighting Vehicle) cingolati BMP nell’ambito delle divisioni motorizzate. Tali scelte NATO erano probabilmente dettate da mere ragioni di spazio (il principale campo di battaglia previsto era sostanzialmente costituito dalla Germania Occidentale), non avendo le forze occidentali ampie possibilità di manovra a largo raggio sul ristretto fronte della “cortina di ferro”, né ampie disponibilità di territorio da cedere per guadagnare tempo. Tale assoluta predominanza del cingolo sulla ruota è stata però messa in discussione dalle molte operazioni seguite alla fine della Guerra Fredda, dove la disponibilità di ampi spazi e le minacce relativamente ridotte, oltre alla oggettiva difficoltà di proiettare e sostenere lontano

    SCORPION: notification of the 2020 order from JAGUAR and GRIFFON September 24, 2020 Nexter, Arquus and Thales, members of the temporary grouping of companies EBMR (Engins Blindés Multi-Rôles), were notified on 15 September by the French defense procurement agency (DGA) of the second production phase of the contract to build the GRIFFON and JAGUAR engines for the SCORPION program. The DGA thus confirms the delivery of 42 JAGUAR and 271 GRIFFON engines for the years 2022 and 2023, as scheduled in the 2019-2025 military programming law. Among the new features, this tranche includes the delivery of the first GRIFFON Artillery Observation Vehicles (VOA) and GRIFFON Sanitary (SAN), which will join the Troop Transport Vehicle (TTV) and Command Post Vehicle (CPV) versions. These new deliveries will contribute to the Army's ramp-up of the SCORPION program. The arrival of this new equipment, with the highest levels of protection and mobility, will provide users with new operational capabilities. Collaborative combat, for example, consists in connecting all the SCORPION program's info-enhanced vehicles in real time. The firing start detectors, telemetry tools and the many sensors integrated on the GRIFFON and JAGUAR communicate together to contribute to the decision making of the vehicle commander. The JAGUAR's highly integrated and digitized turret and its innovative weapons, such as the CTA40 40 mm telescopic gun, the MMP medium-range missile and the Hornet remotely-operated turrets, considerably broaden their field of action. In short, these latest-generation vehicles benefit from the latest technologies and innovations in the land-based field.
