October 2015 the West Island Multiple Sclerosis Self Help Group • HORIZON October 2015 The West Island Multiple Sclerosis Self Help Group 3869 Des Sources blvd, Suite 204, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc H9B 2A2 Tél: 514-676-1588 email: [email protected] Up coming events: November 25 Casino December 13 Christmas Party 4-8 pm January 11 Potluck (Karnak) (Glen) Super Hospital Montreal We recently had a new super hospital built in Montréal. The McGill health center. This facility replaces the old Victoria hospital which was located on Pine and University. Also on the same site, we have the Shriners Hospital which is primarily used by young people with mobility issues. Any hospital will have many clients who need to use wheelchairs or other mobility devices. This is especially true for the Shriners Hospital which is devoted to caring for young people with mobility issues. You can easily access the hospital using public transport. From the Vendome Metro station the Metro can be accessed by way of a tunnel but not if you're in a wheelchair or any other mobility device. Vendome Metro station has no elevator which is the case of the majority of Montréal's Metro stations. In fact there are only nine stations with eleva- tors and they are all located on the orange line. In order to use the Metro system ,if you are in a wheelchair, you must first check if your station has an elevator. (Glen) Super Hospital Montreal And also at the station where you debark. With the billions of dollars spent on building the McGill health center, wouldn't you think that someone would give a thought for assess ability to the disabled? Toronto has a Metro system and over half the stations have an elevator. As we previously stated only nine stations, all located on the orange line are equipped with elevators. The nine Montréal station's that have elevators are as follows. Montmorency station. Enter from 1800 Jacques-Tetreault or Lucien-Paiement. De La Concorde station. Enter from 250 Montee du Moulin. Cartier station. Enter from 5 Cartier Blvd. Jean Talon station. Enter from 430 Jean Talon Est. Berri-UQAM station. Enter from St. Denis Street. Champ-de-Mars station. Enter from 940 rue Sanguinet. Lionel-Groulx station. Enter from 620 Atwater Ave. Henri-Bourassa station. Enter from South corner of Henri-Bourassa and Cote-Vertu station. Enter from Cote-Vertu North entrance. Lajeunesse Montréal should be doing more in the way of adapting Metro stations. The more the physically challenged are able to use public transport, the less strain on the system. TOM Lunch at Madeleines On October 19th, we had the pleasure of having a wonderful lunch at Madeleine's residence at Les Verrières du Golf. 39 of members and volunteers attended. • Annual Report 2018 AC TRANSIT BOARD of DIRECTORS Letter from the Board President
Annual Report 2018 AC TRANSIT BOARD OF DIRECTORS Letter from the Board President At AC Transit, we are constantly striving to improve the service we deliver to our riders, which requires a considerable investment in capital and operating dollars. As such, we are always looking for ways to fund these improvements and fi nd effi ciencies that can be gained so we can utilize Board President those dollars effectively. Joe Wallace Since a relatively small amount of our budget, approximately 12% of our operating revenue, comes from the farebox, we have to fi nd supplemental funding to maintain the robust service that we deliver and our riders expect. Voters were extremely generous in that regard by overwhelmingly voting to Vice President support transit on two separate occasions. Last year, Bay Area voters passed Elsa Ortiz Regional Measure 3 which will generate $4.5 billion per year to relieve traffi c congestion on Bay Area bridges and improve public transportation systems. Then in November, California voters protected $5.4 billion a year for California transportation projects, including $750 million for public transportation, by rejecting Proposition 6. Director Greg Harper All of these efforts result in a healthy $437 million annual budget that allows us to move roughly 170,000 people around the Bay Area each and every weekday. As someone who is transit dependent and uses public transit daily, I, along with my colleagues on the Board of Directors, are deeply committed to our mission to provide safe, reliable and sustainable transportation, and Director will always make our riders our top priority.
