He played Adam North. (I wish someone had told me he had done an episode of Pertocelli - I missed it! - Je.net) WILLIAM SHATNER will star in Herb Gardner's brilliant, warm comedy classic, A THOUSAND CLOWNS, May 23 - 28 in California. (Info Bjo Trimble via STH's APOTA) LEONARD NIlvIOY In an interview recentl,y, Leonard Nimoy told of a show he is writing, producing, and planning to stC\r in - a one-man show based on the relationship between Theo & Vincent Van Gogh. He plans to take this show on the road later this year. He has also been offered a part in a film in London, starting in July or August, which is an Arabian Nights fantasy-adventure. He went on to say. 'If the ST1,R TREK film works out and is in competition at the time of the other fi 1m, then I will do the STAR TREK film instead.' (info Gail Saville via SPIV's A PIECE OF THE j,CTION) DEFOREST KELLY Granicus Film Productions, a SaskatcheVlan, Canada, company, has unveiled plans to begin shooting a movie based on the life of j,lbert Johnston, the Mad Trapper of Rat River. It will be filmed in Saskatchewan, J,lberta, and the Yukon. DeForest Kelley was in C'anada recently to begin negotiations and is being considered for a part in this movie. George's election as Vice··President of the Board is well-deserved, and he will serve for a torm of one year. He oelebrates his fifth anniversary as a board member in Deoember 1978. He was appointed by Mayor Tom Bradley as one of two representatives of th~ City of Los Angeles, and he has done an excellent job. He also has a small part (every Canadian aotor is in it) in the new GBG spectaoular RIEL - it won't be out for a year and a half. "'ne have released Dennis Clark from his contract to rewrite the script, and have brought back Harold Livingston, who had already worked on one draft of it. He's an extremely fast writer and ha1.'d worker, and is familiar with the script, so it's progresssing very well. Also, we've hired a new art director, Harold Michaelson. I don't have his credits yet, but I've seen some of his drawings and he's very good. Also, we're hiring a new costume designer, as Bill Theiss was inVOlved in another project which has kept him out of town the last fell months, and he has many other offers and asked to be allowed to pursue these. "Star Trek - 'rhe Motion Picture," a Gene Tloddenberry Production of a Hobert Wise Film, direoted by Wise, reunites virtually the entire cast from the hit series.     Creating “Star Trek CATAN – Federation Space” After Star Trek Catan was so well received, and as many of you asked us to take this joint venture of the two franchises Catan and Star Trek even further towards the “Final Frontier,” we thought long and hard about what kind of game expansion you would enjoy. As we knew that a lot of players liked our Catan Geographies™ maps so much, which take the whole Settlers of Catan experience towards a real map to put settlements in, we thought: Let us take Star Trek Catan into a “real” region of space to put our little NCC-1701 spaceships in. The crucial question was: Is there a region of space sufficiently “real” inside the Star Trek – The Original Series time period? After a bit of research, we discovered this wonderful map titled “The Explored Galaxy” over at the Memory Alpha wiki. As it turned out, this was “as real as it could get,” as it had been first shown hanging on a wall in none other than Captain James T. Kirk’s quarters in the Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country motion picture (and subsequently in various episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation). Every true Star Trek fan knows that this particular map depicts a lot of the known and beloved locations shown in The Original Series of the 60s, and some of those from The Animated Series of the 70s. We took great effort to investigate and cross-reference all these depicted celestial bodies with their respective episodes. © CATAN GmbH - Page 1 We then added a couple of planets that were not actually shown on this map but that we would really want to have in our game, and tried to pinpoint their locations according to mostly in-canon and sometimes semi-canon sources.

Theteacher began a discussion of the nature of language, meaning and the significance of literacy by discussing an episode of STNG entitled "Darmok" in which an alien race spoke only in metaphor. Humor is present in many episodes of "Star Trek," as wellas concepts like the power of fear. Cultural differences are explored in a number of episodes of STNG. The teacher uses "Star Trek"as an introduction to a lesson and as an impetus for story writing. One of the most enduring qualities of the three series is their focuson problem solving, which can serve as demonstrations for students. The series are also used for teaching the technique of role playing. Episodes of STNG and of "Deep Space 9" can be used to teach contentareas such as English, mathematics, history, physics, chemistry, and biology: "Clues" involves an examination ofspace and time; "Drumhead" involves a Joe McCarthy-like investigator; "Cause and Effect" involves a time loop; "Time's Arrow," involving backward timetravel and Mark Twain; "Emissary" deals with guilt, responsibility,and explaining the nature of time to an immortal-ace; and "The Forsaken" which involves a "shape-shifting" character.
