    Die Herren von Winkl bis ca. 1325 Günter Ma rian Herkunft und Stellung Als "Spitzenahn" der Henen von Wink! kann der erstmals in einer um 1139/43 zu datierenden Klostemeuburger Traditionsnotiz1 erwähnte Poppo de Winche/e gelten, der etwa zeitgleich im bayerischen Kloster Niederaltaich fiir den im Sterben liegenden Markgraf-Herzog Leopold IV. (1136-1 141) als Zeuge nachzuweisen ist.2 Die Präsenz in der engsten Umgebung des östeneichischen Markgrafen, der zugleich bairischer Herzog war, belegt Poppos Zugehörigkeit zum babenbergischen Gefolge. Eine vermutete Identität mit einem gleichnami­ gen Ministerialen Markgraf Leopolds III. INVESTIGATIONS INTO AUSTRIAN STAINED GLASS AFTER 1800 AS PART OF A PILOT PROJECT AT THE AUSTRIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES Thanks to a research project at the Austrian Academy of the nineteenth century.4 The rediscovery of stained glass Sciences with the title Corpus Vitrearum – Medieval and around 1800 took place against the background of the cre- modern stained glass in Austria,1 it has become possible ation of an extensive new architectural landscape within for the first time in Austria, within the framework of the the large park of Laxenburg in Lower Austria, close to the international research enterprise Corpus Vitrearum, to gates of the royal capital of Vienna. Frau Hon.-Prof. Dr. Chri- stiane Thomas (1938–1997), Archivarin am Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv in Wien, hat im Rahmen einer, in den Räumen des Archivs gehaltenen Vorlesung, das „Wappenbuchs von St. Christoph am Arlberg“ gezeigt. Ehrfurchtsvoll standen wir Studenten vor dieser Kostbarkeit. Nach weiteren Gesprächen gab Frau Dr. Thomas die Anregung, diese Handschrift einer genauen Bearbeitung zu unterziehen. Mein Interesse an „Heraldik und Sphragistik“ war seit der Vorlesung von Herrn o.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Georg Scheibelreiter gegeben, und so lagen Thema und Betreuung dankenswer- terweise nah beieinander. Daß Frau Dr. Thomas nur wenig später den Kampf gegen eine schwere Krankheit verlor, war sehr schmerzlich. Ihr enormes Wissen und ihre profunde Kenntnis des Akten- und Urkundenma- terials, gepaart mit ihrer Bereitschaft, dieses Wissen auch weiterzugeben, waren bis zuletzt eine große Bereicherung und Unterstützung.
