COVID-19 BEST PRACTICE

It is recognised that clubs have worked extremely hard to adapt their facilities in line with Government and FA guidelines. The board would like to thank the hard working volunteers who at times have a thankless task for their valued contribution during these unprecedented circumstances and acknowledges that we are all experiencing a learning process. The information below is intended to help clubs follow the guidelines. If you need advice; please contact Bob Purkiss, Covid Coordinator or Nick Spencer, Chairman. Volunteers have a vital role to play in helping to ensure the safe return to playing football. This is particularly true of football clubs competing at Step 5 and Step 6 within the National League System, who are often entirely dependent on volunteers giving their time to enable the club to deliver football and operate safely. Whilst there are many consistencies between the paid workforce and volunteers in relation to safety and welfare, the principal difference is choice. Unlike paid workers, volunteers have no obligation to return, whereas staff are likely to have an employment contract and other employment legislation to protect both them and their employers. Ensuring volunteers are willing and feel able to give their time in a safe environment is critical to the continuance of football. It is important that appropriate consideration is given to identify the practical steps that can be taken to ensure they feel supported, welcomed and most importantly ensure they can volunteer safely. Clubs are diverse and so one size will not fit all when it comes to supporting volunteers. Before and after the match, and in any breaks, all participants should practise social distancing, in line with government guidelines on two metres or ‘one metre plus’. Substitutes and coaches must socially distance in the dugout, extended dugout and technical area. During warm ups and cool downs, participants should practise social distancing. Provide regular reminders and signage to maintain hygiene standards. Using signs to increase awareness of good handwashing technique, the need to increase handwashing frequency, avoid touching your face and to cough or sneeze into your arm. Changing rooms provide a greater risk of transmission and therefore It is important that social distancing is maintained in changing rooms and showers and that they are only used if essential and done so as quickly as possible. Clubs should factor staggering the use to minimise numbers. On a matchday, the home team must make provisions of priority access for the away team. Where able, clubs should seek alternative spaces for team meetings and observe social distancing, again, minimising numbers. For example, only the manager and starting 11. Indoor spaces need to have maximum ventilation as possible (such as opening windows and doors). Players should not be in a group huddle prior to kick-off and should not group celebrate a goal being scored. The sharing of equipment (balls, bibs, cones, goalposts etc) must be avoided where possible and must be regularly wiped down with appropriate cleaning equipment and cleaned thoroughly cleaned after every match and training session. Water bottles should not be shared. Club volunteers or players may consider the use of face masks and gloves during this process. Where equipment is shared, equipment must be cleaned before use by another person. When the match ball goes out of play it should be returned to the technical area for sanitising and replaced by a sanitised one from the technical area. During the half-time break, goal frames and corner flags should be cleaned. The Physio should be reminded to wear a face covering and gloves when treating an injured player. Participants should take their kit home to wash it themselves, rather than have one person handling a large quantity of soiled materials. Where kit absolutely has to be shared or kept together (e.g. last-minute stand- in players, shortage of kit, or an essential club function), each person handling it must wash or sanitise their hands immediately after and appropriate cleaning arrangements for the kit must be made. Spectators should remain socially distanced whilst attending matches. Spectator groups must be restricted to discrete six-person gathering limits and spread out, in line with wider government guidance, ensuring space for officials, coaches and substitutes. SYDENHAMS FOOTBALL LEAGUE NEWS 2020/21 EDITION NUMBER 17

A spectator aware of breaches of social distancing by other spectators should report this to the head steward. When the ball goes out of play the head steward should request for play to stop and arrange for an appropriate statement to made by the PA announcer. As previously stated, volunteer stewards should be comfortable in their role and not fear confrontation. Stewards should be clearly identifiable and briefed by the Covid Officer as to their role and responsibilities. Hospitality is at the discretion of each club who must inform the visiting club in advance of the arrangements. Clubs with a club licence must adhere to the conditions of their licence. The Club Chairman / Chairwoman and Secretary are accountable for their club and are expected to report issues; please remember that by ignoring them you are accepting them. Protect your club, protect the league so that we are in a position to complete what is and will be a challenging season. Individual club’s risk assessment should focus on: 1. How the club intends to ensure that spectators maintain social distancing whilst at the ground (on arrival, during and after the match and on departure); such as effective signage and PA announcements including (SPECTATORS WHO DO NOT OBSERVE SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE GROUND) at regular intervals. In the absence of a PA, the stewards could convey the message. Clubs may wish to consider: [a] marking queues with tape on the floor at 2m intervals wherever possible, but a minimum of 1m+ if not (i.e. at turnstiles and takeaway food areas). [b] signage and markings for spectator standing. [c] reducing the availability of seats within covered accommodation. [d] crowd management processes, i.e. barriers at pinch points and/or introducing a one-way flow within the ground. [e] advance purchase ticket schemes, allowing clubs to manage walk ups. 2. How the club intends to maintain appropriate hygiene in spectator areas, including toilets, entrances and exits. 3. How the club intends to inform visiting clubs of policies or procedures which will be in place. Clubs may wish to consider signage and use their social media communication channels to encourage spectators to follow the guidance. 4. Whether the club wishes to implement any COVID-19 screening measures for spectators attending fixtures. If so, what are these measures and how will they be implemented. 5. Whether the club intends to amend its usual refreshment facilities for spectators. 6. What medical provisions the club has in place if spectators fall ill and how this can be provided in accordance with current government guidance. 7. How the club intends to monitor compliance with its risk assessment and action plan and the steps it intends to take if spectators are found to be breaching social distancing measures or increasing the risk of transmission.

MIDWEEK MATCH REPORTS

Tuesday 20 October Russell-Cotes Cup Final SHOLING 1-0 LYMINGTON TOWN THIS was the 99th final of the Russell-Cotes Cup, which is a grand old competition and held in aid of the FA Benevolent fund. This final had been carried over from the 2019/20 season which was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic. A single goal separated the teams on the night, writes Gary Day which was scored shortly before half-time and proved enough for Sholing to retain the trophy. The all-important strike occurred following a save by Town keeper Casey to deny a turning drive from Byron Mason to concede a corner. From that flag kick taken by Hoole, Miller flicked the ball on at the near post and Dan MASON knocked it over the line at the back stick. The goal was no more than Sholing deserved as they created most of the worthwhile first half opportunities. Herbert hit the side netting from a Sawyer pass early in the game and Miller headed against the Town bar from a corner shortly after. Lymington, who’d won all their Wessex League games played so far this season, attacked rarely with Fee having their best effort, driving over from 20 yards. After the goal there was still time for Fee, who was fouled, to try a further effort from the edge of the box but his free kick was off the mark. HT 1-0 and a ‘typical’ sort of cup final game – little gained and little conceded overall. The second half opened with the visitors defending but they gradually became more adventurous in the hope of retrieving the single goal deficit. However, they found a rather steadfast Sholing defence who restricted them to longer range efforts. They almost caught out Sholing when the ref gave a corner and, whilst they contested the decision, Town got on with taking it and Stephenson headed wide. Drake then seemed to wriggle past Miller but the Sholing defender excellently recovered to block his effort whilst Falco fired off the mark. Sholing sub Watts put a shot wide and then had a further effort that Casey deflected (it might have brushed the far post too) and Herbert later drove over. Lymington made a late effort to get the leveller but House’s shot deflected wide and Gosney was down to save a Fee shot whilst further shots by House and Nichols were off the mark. Casey went up for a last-gasp corner but his opposite number Gosney caught it and the final note was blown. FT 1-0. Sunday, 25 October 2020 Page 9 of 30

SYDENHAMS FOOTBALL LEAGUE NEWS 2020/21 EDITION NUMBER 17

Tuesday 20 October Division One VERWOOD TOWN 1-1 LAVERSTOCK & FORD YOU will forgive the feeling of deja-vu in respect of this fixture having seen Verwood's last midweek game at New Milton, 7 days ago. Same score, two late goals only difference was that Verwood did not wait until the fourth minute of stoppage time to equalise. The game started at a furious pace which continued throughout and as a result the match was very entertaining. Most of the action was in the middle third of the pitch but there was goalmouth action at both ends. Laverstock probably edged possession but Verwood had the balance of the chances particularly in the first half. Laverstock had the ball in the net on 10 minutes when a corner by Joe Rawkins ended with Archie Lovegrove "scoring" from close range but the referee had already blown up for a foul. Shortly after Adam Bourner made a long run from the back to feed Dom Jackson who shot over. Verwood's first clear chance came midway through the half when a shot from James King, newly signed from Hamworthy, shaved a post with a low shot. Verwood continued with the chances as Matt Vining brought a good save out of Laverstock keeper Tom Roberts who ultimately was man of the match. Before half time Roberts made another good save, this time from Ryan Watkins and so the referee brought a breathless first half to a close. HT 0-0. Verwood had the better of the early exchanges in the second period and Ben Kelly might have done better with a header from a King free kick. At the other Chae Sykes had another good chance but headed over from a James Ward cross. Much travelled, Jordon Matthews entered the fray as a substitute and he certainly livened up the Laverstock attack. MATTHEWS was the scorer after 76 minutes as a ball was slid across the face of goal and he had a simple task to shoot home at the far post. However Verwood were not to be denied and 3 minutes later they were back on level terms. Vining's run resulted in his passing to Edgar ZANIN, who is not always a starter but he took his opportunity well to beat Roberts from close in. In the final 10 minutes, it was Verwood who were happier to hear the final whistle but they had contributed fully to an excellent game. FT 1-1.

MIDWEEK ROUND UP

CUP Final action to start our round up this midweek, and it’s the 2019/20 Russell-Cotes Cup that takes centre stage. The 99th contest was between former members Sholing and Premier Division side Lymington Town. A Dan Mason goal moments before half time saw the Boatmen retain the trophy they won last term. With the Quarter Final stage of our League Cup being announced, Tuesday saw three of the teams decided. Starting in the east United Services Portsmouth needed a late James Franklyn goal to progress at the hands of Brockenhurst 1-0. Heading west we saw another Premier Division scalp claimed when Andover Town hit a 3-2 win over Blackfield & Langley. A Josh Bertie double adding to a Callum Sweeney penalty saw them through. River Smith and Fawzi Saadi with the goals for the Watersiders. Across another Division One side were in action but a hat trick of upsets was stopped when Bashley won by the odd goal in five thanks to two goals in the last couple of minutes. Newport had gone two up at the break through Jake Younie and Jordan Browne. Lewis Ross pulled the visitors back into contention before the late late show from Harry McGrath and Jamie Webber changed the outcome. This week there were seven games in the Premier Division with four seeing the away sides coming out on top. Hosts Portland again went ahead, this time youngster Louis Hankin netting the goal, before two Dan Cann strikes, the second in added on time, earned Hamworthy United a 2-1 win.

SYDENHAMS FOOTBALL LEAGUE NEWS 2020/21 EDITION NUMBER 17

Shaftesbury were less fortunate, with AFC Stoneham hitting them for six before the Rockies grabbed a late consolation through Aaron Lane-Leney. Callum Laycock contributing a hat trick with Mat Bainbridge a pair and Alex Welch also on the score sheet for the visitors. Christchurch also went down at home, this time against Bournemouth. A typical predatory strike from Martin Warren opened the scoring for the Poppies before a late Lewis Harvey wrapped up the points in a 2-0 win, and it could have been more as the framework of the hosts’ goal saved their bacon on at least two more occasions, although Poppies keeper Sam Jones was also on hand with a couple of fine saves. Next up is Alresford, with Horndean the visitors. It was a 3-0 win for the visitors thanks to goals from Ash Howes, Harry Jackson and Connor Duffin. We understand that Manager Luke Turkington has left the role by mutual consent at the Magpies. The only drawn game in the Premier saw four goals shared at Fleet where Mal Thomas and Matt Pearse gave them the early lead before goals from Sam Wilson and Jack Nicholas earned a point for Hamble. Fareham maintained the top spot courtesy of a 3-0 win over Baffins with goals coming from Josh Benfield, Garry Moody and Casey Bartlett-Scott. Finally in the top flight, Cowes Sports notched two second half goals, through Jez Conway and John McKie to defeat AFC Portchester. Just the one game in Division One, and it ended honours even at Potterne Park between Verwood Town and league leaders Laverstock & Ford. Jordon Matthews gave the Bulldogs the lead three minutes before Edgar Zanin struck earning the Potters a point. Penalties were needed in the only game played on Wednesday night. After sharing two goals at Longmeadow, Whitchurch progressed 5-4 on penalties against New Milton Town. Charlie Turner gave the Linnets the lead early on before a Corey Cherrett leveller just after the start of the second half.

COVID-19 BULLETIN

From our Chairman-I hope that you find the information in this bulletin informative and helpful, please take time to read, understand and share with your hard-working volunteers, management team and players. On behalf of the league’s management team please accept our thanks for the work that you have all undertaken and continue to carry out; enabling football to be played and watched by spectators. This is a privilege that is not enjoyed by all involved in football. You will be aware that Bob Purkiss the league’s Vice Chairman and Welfare Officer has taken on the additional role as Covid-19 Coordinator. This temporary role was created to help clubs with guidance when implementing the Government and FA Covid-19 guidelines which are intended to keep us all safe; the additional workload has proven to be too much for one person to effectively manage. I reacted to this situation by increasing the league’s resource, Bob is now supported by Ian Harley, Roger Allen, Greg Dickson and myself. The Covid-19 team have a number of clubs allocated to each of them; clubs have received the details from each of them therefore you know who to contact for assistance. There are concerns that I would like your help with, please ensure that your committee, management team and playing squad are aware of these and will make every effort to support each other; keeping safe and Covid-19 free. Group Huddles – these must not take place unless wearing face coverings; before, during or after the game, this includes goal celebrations which must not include running to spectators, I appreciate is a natural reaction and the hardest to avoid. I have recently witnessed goals being scored and the controlled celebration by players so I know it can be done. The League Management Directive regarding dug-outs and technical area is not being adhered to, the update follows: - “To allow safe Social Distancing the number of people permitted to occupy the dug-out and extended technical area is to be no more than eight, consisting of 5 substitutes, the physio, the coach and the manager. Social distancing must be practised and face coverings to be worn unless conveying instructions to players from the technical area. Please also remember that sharing of bibs is not permitted, operating your electronic subs board should be restricted to one person and the board should be sanitised before and after use.”

Sunday, 25 October 2020 Page 11 of 30

SYDENHAMS FOOTBALL LEAGUE NEWS 2020/21 EDITION NUMBER 17

To further clarify this League Management Directive, please note the following. All occupants of the dug-out must wear a face covering and sit at least 1 metre apart. Substitutes seated in the extended area, providing they are 2 metres apart, do not need to wear a face covering. If there is not sufficient space for the additional seating then substitutes should position themselves behind the barrier and practise social distancing. During pre-match warm ups handling of footballs, excepting by goalkeepers is not permitted. Changing rooms: pre-match and post-match the maximum number of people permitted is six who must practice social distancing. At half time the manager and 11 players can occupy the changing room; if social distancing is possible as it will be for less than 15 minutes. Sanitising of match balls: when a match ball goes out of play, it should be returned to the technical area to be sanitised and replaced by a sanitised match ball from the technical area. It is common practice for spectators to be willingly involved in returning out of play match balls. Handling of match balls should be actively discouraged as it is possible for the virus to be transmitted by ‘sharing equipment’. Effective stewarding of spectators in terms of social distancing is an issue that I have previously witnessed at some fixtures. I am pleased to witness and learn that generally this is much improved; clubs have worked hard to achieve this and must continue to ‘manage spectators’ with PA announcements, clear messaging and markings on the hand rail and hard standing which will reinforce the requirement to comply with legislation. I appreciate that it is not easy, however it is imperative that clubs address the issue when it occurs, having received guidance on this including the financial penalty for individuals and requesting that non-compliant spectators leave the ground. The league is doing all that it can to help clubs and enable them to continue playing football; it does not want to take disciplinary action for non-compliance by any club or individual. I know you will agree that by following the Government and FA guidelines, applying common sense and working together we can minimise the risk of spreading the Corona-19 virus. Please ensure that you continue reviewing and updating as required your club’s Risk Assessment. I will also remind you that it is not acceptable to post inappropriate comments about clubs and/or players on social media; the County FA or the league will deal with such incidents and apply sanctions. It is pleasing to see the increase in spectators being enjoyed by clubs, bringing you financial benefits. Elsewhere in this Newsletter you will see data on spectator numbers for clubs in our competitions this season. In closing, please accept my thanks and share them with your volunteers for the additional and ongoing work. Their dedication and support is invaluable, without them you would not be playing competitive fixtures. Should you have any concerns, please contact your allocated Covid-19 team member: Bob Purkiss, Nick Spencer, Roger Allen, Ian Harley or Greg Dickson.

CLUB NEWS

No dream date for United Services Portsmouth. Their FA Youth Cup exploits came to an end at Didcot Town where a last minute leveller by the hosts, making it one each, took the tie to penalties with Didcot winning 5-4 to set up a tie at Portsmouth in the First Round proper. There was better news in the New Forest though as Brockenhurst overcame Kidlington 3-1 to go through and again have home advantage this time against Truro City, well done to all concerned. SYDENHAMS FOOTBALL LEAGUE NEWS 2020/21 EDITION NUMBER 17

Earlier this week we heard that Luke Turkington was leaving Alresford Town. The Magpies have installed a temporary management team for the up and coming games whilst a search is carried out for a permanent appointment. The first team duties will be handled by Kevin Scriven and Daryll Phillips with the assistance of first team coach Jeff Bookman. Jeff is a former Academy Coach and Head of International Youth Development for Chelsea F.C., a lead coach at the David Beckham Academy in London and has an extensive coaching background in both the UK and internationally. Jeff holds his UEFA A License and is a former F.A. Coach Educator. Commercial Director, Lauren Young, will take over the secretary role during the time Kevin is handling first team responsibilities. There’s a new Assistant Manager at Beatrice Avenue, with Darren Arnold joining East Cowes Victoria. It’s the end of an era, as AFC Stoneham will leave their Chestnut Avenue ground on Sunday November 1 for the last time. To celebrate, they’ve arranged nine youth games on the day at the ground kicking off at 10:00, midday and 14:00 for anyone who wishes to say a last goodbye to the old place. Pirelli General moved to the ground in 1965 and were there until 2003 before AFC Stoneham moved there in 2010. The ground has seen the fairly meteoric rise of the club and holds huge memories for many people and will never forget that our most recent history was written at Chestnut. Please do get along and say "goodbye" on a day of mixed emotions with the overriding one being a celebration of a venue which has been fantastic for the club and will always have a huge place in their hearts. Hamworthy United have advised as to Steve Harvey’s funeral details and would like to share them with his footballing family. Sadly Steve’s family cannot give Steve the send-off that he deserves due to the current pandemic guidelines and they would have loved to invite all the people that knew Steve to his funeral. The Harvey’s have arranged for the funeral cortège to drive along Blandford Road past the club on Monday 2nd November between 11:30-11:45. It would be lovely if anybody who is free to be there and wave farewell to Steve on his final journey. Kim, Louisa and James thank you for your all for support, well wishes and understanding. We hear that the Car Park at the Specsavers County Ground will be open for those wishing to take part.

STEP 5-6 FA MEETING UPDATE

There was an FA NLS Step 5 & Step 6 meeting on Thursday 22nd October; it was interesting to listen to colleagues from the North East and North West and hearing how clubs are facing a difficult time due to Tier 3 restrictions. Hearing their issues, I realise how fortunate we are in our area, writes Nick Spencer Our colleagues at the FA continue to have regular dialogue with DCMS, as a result of their determined efforts, DCMS are supporting continuation of playing football for Steps 3 to 6. I appreciate the commitment and additional effort that clubs and their volunteers have done; working extremely hard to implement the DCMS and FA Covid-19 guidelines, allowing football to be played in front of spectators; as mentioned in my Covid-19 bulletins and on our Voice FM radio show, my thanks to you all. Please stay diligent, stay safe and enjoy your football.

The levels of attendances continue to hold up, the poor weather yesterday didn’t do anybody any favours though, however with 104 on average in the Premier and 108 in Division One clubs should hope to build on these whilst being ever mindful of following Government and FA guidelines during these difficult times. The top three averages see AFC Portchester top with 240, Bashley on 214 and Fareham nudging towards two hundred with 197. Andover Town top the Division One list with close to 166. Overall attendances thus far in League action is 18,393.

WEEKEND MATCH REPORTS

Saturday 24 October Division One DOWNTON 2-3 WHITCHURCH UNITED This was a game between two sides who would have had much higher expectations at the start of the season than both of their current league positions writes Roger Allen. The autumn afternoon steadily worsened throughout the game although the pitch stood up well to the downpour. Downton made much of the early running with full back James Clark making several forward runs. The first clear chance came in the 11th minute when Dan Telfer shot wide and Downton took the lead a minute later. Again Telfer was involved with a corner and Matt PALMER scored with a looping header. Shortly after Downton had further chances to score - on one occasion three in the same move as Whitchurch scrambled to clear. After 20 minutes it was possible to sense a shift in momentum towards Whitchurch and Lloyd Thompson had their first chance as he ran on to a through ball, shooting wide of both Downton's keeper and a post. As Downton's first half effort faded, Whitchurch got back in the game scoring on 35 minutes from the penalty spot. Matt Taylor, the Downton keeper, was adjudged to have bundled over George BISHOP who took the penalty himself and, although his first shot was saved, he was able to convert the rebound. One look at the Downton team sheet showed that they had plenty of experience at the heart of the defence with both Palmer and the much travelled Steve Walker. However they were picked apart just before half time

when Thompson fed his strike partner, Harry EDMONDSON whose low cross shot found the net. Downton were left vainly claiming offside but the goal stood. HT 1-2 The second half was less than a minute old when Whitchurch added a third as substitute Joe WESTERN made an instant impact by running on to a through ball which he lobbed expertly past the advancing keeper. From then on, until Downton pulled a late goal back, Whitchurch looked comfortable despite the home side having a few chances to reduce the deficit. Declan McGregor was wide with a difficult header before he was substituted and Clark hit the outside of the near post with a shot. Downton did get back into the game in the 79th minute when player manager and substitute, Ben SMITH bundling in a Telfer corner at the far post. That was the signal for some frantic action around the Whitchurch penalty area with several snap shots, hasty miscued clearances and penalty claims failing to bring an equaliser. Deep into stoppage time Downton were awarded a free kick around 25 yards out which Telfer took and keeper Louis Owens produced an outstanding save to tip the effort onto the cross bar (pictured above). So Whitchurch hung on to claim their second League victory of the season. FT 2-3

WEEK 8 ROUND UP

NOT the best of ways to end a week, the weather was simply atrocious at least in the western part of our area and the first real weather test for all clubs with match day Covid-19 procedures to follow and adhere to, hopefully all went well at our grounds. First port of call for the weekend is at Bonnymead Park, where the final 2nd Round tie in the League Cup was completed. Amesbury Town struggling in the Premier Division overhauled fourth placed Horndean 3-0. With the visitors almost grabbing an equaliser to make it one each saw the hosts go straight up the other end to make it two. Goals for Amesbury coming from Christian Boothe, Osamu Allman and former Stoneham player Jo Sutherden. The result means Folland Sports will make the trip to Wiltshire in a month’s time. In the bread and butter world of the Premier Division, the much anticipated game between Lymington and Fareham was disappointingly a late call off due to covid-19 issues in the home camp, where perhaps more notice could have been given. Perhaps surprisingly only one other game fell by the wayside where a mid- morning call prevented Cowes making the trip to Shaftesbury due to the pitch conditions at Cockrams. Moving on to games played now, and we’ll start in the top flight. The northern outpost of Calthorpe Park saw a 4-1 away win for Hamworthy United, with Cameron Munn leading the way with a hat trick for the Hammers. Dan Cann also found himself on the scoresheet for the third time this week, in a win that sees the Hammers hit top spot with Fareham inactive. Taylor Watts notched a late consolation strike for Fleet. At our other northerly club, it was honours even between Tadley Calleva and Portland United. Ryan McKechnie levelled the contest for the visitors after a long trip, Josh Drew having put the hosts ahead. On the south coast we head to Portsmouth, where Baffins Milton Rovers netted three without reply against Bournemouth. All goals here came in the second half with Josh Warren, Tommy Scutt and Blu Boam finding the target. Whilst ion that area, Brockenhurst won by the odd goal of three at AFC Portchester in front of the biggest gate of the day, 240. Brad Magookin hitting a double- one in each half for the Badgers, whilst Barry Mason was the Portchester marksman. On the artificial surface at Stoneham Lane, it was a 6-0 win for AFC Stoneham against Bashley, with Duarte Martins and Nathan Clements both bagging braces for the Purples. Scott Hills set the ball rolling with a 19th minute penalty and Will Wiseman was also on target. Christchurch got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win coming at Hamble Club. Max Wilcock, Kyle Graham and Ash Pope with the goals. New boy Mitch Byrne for the Monks with an added time strike in the first half. The final game in the Premier was on the Waterside where 78 witnessed Blackfield & Langley hit four without reply against Alresford. Connal Morrison hit a double for the hosts after River Smith had given them the lead, with Dom Panesar-Dower also on the scoresheet. In Division One, the game at Ringwood was abandoned after around an hour, with torrential rain the cause. Bemerton were 1-0 up through a 22nd minute strike from Kane O’Keefe. Nearby New Milton Town went down 3-1 at home against Folland Sports, with Chris Long on target for the Linnets and Matt Casey, Clayd Roach and James Thomson for the Planemakers. Another host team on the losing list saw Downton defeated by Whitchurch 3-2. Matt Palmer and Ben Smith for the Robins with George Bishop, from the penalty spot, Harry Edmondson and Joe Western getting the points for the Jamboys. Petersfield Town also enjoyed a win by the same score at Totton & Eling, Bailey Newbury with a hat trick for the Rams. Danny Clarke and James Matthews with the goals for the Millers. Honours even at Andover Town against Hythe & Dibden. Town went ahead through Ben Emans before Mig Dark earned the visitors a point. It was also one apiece at Fawley where a late Declan Hartigan goal earned the oilers a point against Andover New Street who led from a Shane Lock strike early in the second half. Alton grabbed the points in a 1-0 win over Romsey Town with Matt Graham getting the goal towards the end of the first half, the gate of 161 being the best of the bunch in Division One. Laverstock & Ford maintained a ten point lead at the top of the Division with a 4-0 win over East Cowes Vics. The scorers seem somewhat familiar now, namely Jake Rawkins, Chae Sykes and Russell Jones (2). Lastly for the weekend and the only game on the was at Beatrice Avenue, where United Services Portsmouth beat Newport 3-0. Dec Seiden, Tyler Moret and Tom Cain earning the visitors the points.

MIDWEEK PREVIEW

There is a mixed bag of fixtures this midweek, all League games, with some local derbies and some longer trips. It doesn't get more local than Brockenhurst and Blackfield & Langley who meet in a Premier fixture at the Meadens Skoda Arena on Tuesday evening. Both clubs are coming off good wins at the weekend and this game should be both entertaining and close. Probably the pick of the other games is at Eastleigh where Horndean visit Stoneham who have scored six in each of their last two outings. By contrast Horndean were disappointing in losing their Cup game at Amesbury on Saturday but League form is another matter. Sides facing longer trips involve Fleet coming down to the south coast to face second placed Fareham who are flying. Fleet were in good form but lost on Saturday to another of the top sides and will do well to take anything back from Cams. Hamworthy were Fleet's opponents on Saturday and they will surely have too much fire power for lowly Amesbury. Lymington visit Alresford and will hope to put their Saturday no-show behind them. The final Premier game is also in the north of the County as Bournemouth are on their travels again, this time to Tadley with both teams unable to put a consistent run together. On Tuesday there are also five fixtures in Division One with the highlight at Moon Park where United Services Portsmouth visit Bemerton. Both these sides were title favourites at the start of the season but neither has quite fulfilled expectations. Two more sides who had high expectations at the start of the season are in action on Tuesday with New Street playing Whitchurch and Downton entertaining Ringwood, All four clubs could do with three points to move them up the table. Action from the Downton Whitchurch game at the weekend pictured below.

Both the remaining two games plus the game on Wednesday are likely to be low scoring. As Laverstock found out last week, Verwood are difficult opponents and second placed Follands will do well to leave Potterne with three points. Romsey and Petersfield are both unable to string a series of good results together, similarly Fawley and New Milton who play on Wednesday. Watch out for the 7.30 kick offs, and with less than a week to go, here’s a reminder that the Road to Wembley resumes on Saturday with the 1st Round Proper in the Buildbase FA Vase-
